1. frequencies below about 300Hz.
2. Nice sounding bass although the recording could use some warmth, I really rate the maple topped Alembic MK sigs. Your Wal sounds gorgeous!
3.
Swap the necks and the bridges over, Job done
What he said!
4. 80's Steinbergers, 80's Yamaha BB5000, Musicman Stingray 5, G&L L1500 and some of the latest Status basses are offered with narrow spacing as a custom option. Generally a lot of the mid 80's 5 string basses had narrow string spacing and then the spacing tended to widen out after the 90's. I don't think the Spectors I own are particularly narrow by comparison. The Yammie BB5000 is amongst the narrowest IIRC.
5. The V4s are even rarer than the V8's!
6. do they live up to the hype clarky? I've thought about them too at one point. Would fit them to my Celinder but it can't take stock jazz pups.
7.
My recently aquired V4 head is the new baby in my Trace family.Mmmmmmm!
Thats one hell of a find, where did you source it?
I have some older Trace stuff, but you know most of that already, like the pre-MK V GP11 or the AH250 heads to go with that. But I never seen another one of these: The PP33 offers three parametric bands of EQ for bass, mid and treble, each with frequency, cut/boost and q-factor. If you turn the q-factor all the way counter-clockwise on bass and treble they become shelving filters. Clever, huh? It also sports the mandatory pre-shape switch. There´s no date anywhere on this unit but I think TE didn´t offer the PPs long. Serial number is 2119.
Ditto. Why on earth didn't they stay with the parametric eq? It's so much more practical and relevant to managing on stage acoustics.
8. So no-one decided to make a real statement and play a Steinberger XL2A? Bunch of pussies... Jon Shuker told me once that Bakithi Kumalo approached him once asking for free instruments in exchange for an endorsement deal. History shows how receptive Jon was.
9. I'll let you know when it arrives in about 10 days. I prefer narrow spacing like on my alembic, I don't have a bendy thumb on my right hand so it means the higher strings are within reach without pivoting my hand over too much. I listened to this clip of a fretless XL2A yesterday and thought it sounded gorgeous. Loads of sustain and mwah like my Pentabuzz but without the glassy highs. If I can get around on the XL5A coming I might end up looking for another in or to be converted to fretless.
10. Just snagged this on Fleabay. Always hankered for one because I think they're a design classic. But only if I could bag a 5 with narrow string spacing. I've played the 4's in the past and they've been awkward and taken a bit of getting used to but I don't care
11. Good grief, I'd definitely buy that if I was in the market. Stunning instrument!
12. Blimey I think thats older than Rob Greens.
13. He's like...the Cleo Laine of the bass world!
14. I can't think of anything that will replace my Shuttle 6.0. Its got everything needed for gigging and nothing extra. For stereo with the MIDI bass set up I wouldn't mind another but they seem to have fairly high resale values from what I can see. So I've made do with a Peavey DPC power amp until I make some neo wedge shaped cabs with a slot for a shuttle in each.
15. Im more south than you. Welcome anyway!
16. The only single cut I've ever seen that looks gorgeous is the Fodera Beez Elite. Every other singlecut I've seen looks awful. I think this style needs width and curves to look attractive, it just doesn't look right when luthiers try to keep the body width small.
17. They're insecure and lonely. Invite them along to the gig so they can see for themselves you're not doing the dirty. Don't take responsibility for her insecurity or dependency. If she starts picking fights, mention that you think she's picking a fight and ask her how long its going to take before she's open to talking about solutions rather than moaning. If at any point you feel she's not listening to you then state the obvious and walk away. You don't have to be anyone's punching bag.
18. At least people can understand why I've said nothing on this thread to date. Ken I really wish you'd get off the internet and phone people instead. I think you come across well on the factory vid but your email comms come across as defensive and arrogant. Its up to you how to deal with that but I'd suggest a little empathy would go a long way. Respect comes from backing your customers, not your product. BTW, I don't regret selling all three of my Smith basses, my modded spectors are way better and taught me I don't need loads of lams for a fantastic sounding bass.
19. amazing condition, surprised this hasn't gone already
20. I used one of these tri-trucks. Great for moving over uneven ground. Heavy loads were still a hassle on stairs though. 21.
but it does seem a bit odd to see so much wear, that high up on the dusty end of the board?
What if it was mostly played by someone adapting their upright technique?
22. Eeee, they don't make them like that any more.
23.
Pino bought his Buzz fretless to use on the Don Henley session for 'New York Minute' when he found his fretless Stingray had been sent back to the UK by mistake and he needed an instrument ASAP!!! oops!!
That is a gorgeously sensual bassline. I really don't know where Pino's genius comes from. I feel like washing my ears with medical soap afterwards.
24.
I'm pretty sure that Palladino used a fretless Pedulla Buzz on "Playhouse down"..
25. yeah, maybe 25 of those around too.
