1. He's always over stretched in my experience. He probably wouldn't have it any other way
2. LOL I just need a strat body rescuing. It's been 2 years and he doesn't appear to be returning my emails. I'm just hoping some kind person out there might be willing to collect and package it up for me...all costs paid for. I'll organise a courier if its collectable during the day.
3.
You should have gotten the one where he flashes his arse. That would have the rest running to save their eyes
I confess I haven't followed him THAT closely...
4. He's built like a wrestler!
5. This dude says "come on tough guy...if u hard enough".
6. I've got Gilmour playing fretless on Big Bottom with Spinal Tap on DVD at the Secret Policemen's Ball
7. John said he'd agreed an endorsement so perhaps it was a done deal?
8. DUDE YOU HAVE ONE OF THE LEGENDARY JACO FRETLESSES!!!
9. If so, and you'd be willing to do me a favour, could you please drop me a PM?
10. Could anyone who has a GA24 give me the body width? I have a vague recollection its something like 15"?
11. I posted this on my facebook profile the other day. Its way cool, I still think they look like they've been thrown out of Dexy's Midnight Runners for being overdressed though.
12. sh*t man, that sucks. I wish people didn't have to sell gear just to keep the wolf from the door. I've been there myself.
13.
Really Kiwi, I wish you'd shown me where I could buy one for that price. I fear your love Uncle Ken could be colouring your normally excellent judgement . I fully appreciate you've bought / sold / owned many more Smiths than I, but having played "Hunt the Smith" recently I couldn't find one ( except with a very badly damaged neck which had been repaired ) for less than £2k, and god knows I looked long and hard for some time all over Europe and the US of A too. I stand by what I said, I think £2k is a VERY good price at the moment and if I needed another or could justify it to my significant other I'd be all over it.
I sold all three of mine at different times in about 6-8 weeks from the time they were made available. Two were sold through the Bass Gallery and one was sold to a friend. It wasn't as if my arm was being taken off in any instance, and Alex thought my expectations weren't too low. Maybe the demand for them has gone up in the last couple of years?
14. Alembic Series 1 graphite.
15. I wouldn't consider buying a BSR5EG for more than 2k. I think 1.8-2k is fine.
16. The Alembic...probably.
17. In terms of my own performance - OBBM saw it. I did a depping gig with a blues band called Soul Kitchen and had 2 weeks to learn 23 blues songs. Piece of piss you might say but they weren't straight forward old times blues songs, they included tricky Robben Ford numbers...blues without the I-IV-V-I progressions which totally stressed me out. I managed to get through it but the money covered fuel expenses and nothing else. Managed to put off a group of three guys breaking into my car while it was being loaded up too. I swore never to dep again unless I knew at least half the set list. Had other gigs where the punters weren't much fun for one reason or another but nothing that lost me sleep.
18. +1 Pino Palladino, I'd love to know where he got the ideas for those Paul Young songs.
19. Hi Kevin, your dad was fairly active on here if I recall too. Welcome aboard, have you gone back to bass then?
20. the first complete bass line I ever learned was New Years Day by U2. There was a guitarist at school who was really into The Edge and wanted a jam buddy, I was just stoked I sounded like the record!
21. PM'd back, its all good.
22. thought I'd agreed first option on it.
23. Eh? where?
24. To the OP: I believe so, the wood relaxes under years of string tension and playing. The treatment of wood referred to earlier is known as acrylisation, acrylic resin is injected into wood under pressure. Probably makes the wood denser, more consistent in tonal response and lowers the resonancy peak of the wood (less risk of deadspots). Not sure about factors relating to wood drying out, wood absorbs and emits moisture all the time, depending on the surrounding humidity. Not sure about Fender opting for lighter or heavier bodies either, as far as I've been able to tell they didn't care about the wood density, the place was a production line.
25. Lexicon MPXG2 - literally a swiss army knife. I've been able to reconfigure it for pretty much every situation regardless of whether bass or guitar, studio or live, stereo or mono. In fact I bought a second very recently because the market rate for them is so low. Absolutely outstanding piece of kit. I've even been able to use it to integrate my MIDI rig into the main bass rig using the switchable insert loop.
