'hot deals' section along with the 'eBay' one? Please vote!
Kiwi replied to Noisyjon's topic in General Discussion
We already have it covered in the affiliates section. Anyone who has something to sell can post there. Maybe we need to rename it...? -
Its interesting though, isn't it? People can criticise the US for many things but they're culturally VERY open to innovation.

I have a good bass and I have a good amp... Why do I need a pedal?
Kiwi replied to bassickman's topic in Effects
I ended up getting pedals for patches that sucked up all the processing power in my MPXG2 or stuff my MPXG2 couldn't do. eg. unibass, synthbass and two inputs (EBS Microbass). -
Which is the one I can see. Press CTRL+ F5 and refresh your browser.

Nice site and lucky that he has so much support from manufacturers. There's a stark contrast between the US attitude to promotion and the UK here too. Clearly in the US, manufacturers identify someone who is an opinion leader and support them as best they can. Over in the UK I get the impression similar people aren't taken seriously...yet. For example, Shep, one of our mods is probably an equivalent to Juan. I don't see effects pedal manufacturers this side of the pond flocking to him so he can review their products. Another example - Tombowlus, manufacturers were throwing gear at him, at one point. Don't recall the same happening over here with some of our collectors.

I agree, but that isn't going to be anything to worry about. Its not going to affect the sound of the bass at all.

At some point I'll be getting some of these: http://guitargrip.co...GS%20Ladies.htm Apparently they can be used as guitar hangers too.

I thought it was an Eclipse too but it doesn't have the arched top. It's either a Status Energy - they were made originally with graphite necks and then wooden necks before being discontinued. But I've never seen one with an exotic top. Alternatively it could be a Series 1 but I've never seen one with a one piece body. My money is on it being a Series 1

Fair point...hooray for the manufacturer not the brand then...?
Been lurking for a long time since I came across this forum via Talkbass, finally bit the bullet and registered today.
Now that is an interesting way to find out about Basschat...and not one I expected.

A chorus/mod delay that emulates a Yamaha E1010? The Level 42 fanboys would probably like that. But the unit does have a pretty awesome sounding chorus - rich and deep. A dual band valve compressor? Pretty much everything else I'd be interested in is already provided by other manufacturers. For guitar, why hasn't someone done a Fender Super Champ emulator? A highly sought after almost legendary amp that appears to have been overlooked.

This is about rebranding though. Maybe they did it with the SB1 as well...

In pickups there is only one resonant peak and its quite broad. Think more mids or more bass or more highs and that's about it. It's also possible to manipulate treble response with winding a higher resistance. Impedance changes have an effect too, as anyone who switches between serial and parallel coil settings on a Musicman Stringray 5 will already know.
Playing over the bridge pickup typically gives a short more abrupt sound as the string does not have as much chance to move and vibrate. That is why the neck pickup is BIG as it has more chance to move...
I'd suggest the string has a higher resonancy peak due to the flexibility of the string. It still vibrates at the same frequency to produce the same pitch. You can hear how the resonancy peak changes by running a pick down the windings of roundwound strings when they're fitted.
This is why big bassey cabs tend to be toneless...and is the same reason that big powerful pickups can be the same. The bass output overwhelms all other characteristics
It's hair splitting but even a sub woofer has a tone. But yes, a load of 100Hz can turn everything else to mud. Much better to dial back the 100Hz and maybe aim for 25 or 35Hz. Stuff you can feel more than hear. Then knock the 250-400Hz band up a little depending on what sounds best.
Single coil are thinner typically and you hear the bass' inherrent sound..for good or bad.
Do you mean mids? Mids are everything IMO. Without being able to hear them cleanly it can be difficult to hear pitch on stage. But back to the OP. It depends on whether you want something that evokes the sound of a jazz pickup or replicates the sound of a jazz pickup. The problem is that there are trade offs, the more you move towards a jazz coil sound, the further you move from a Stingray sound. I'd agree with previous posts that pickup position counts for a fair bit. But the MM pickup also has BIG magnets and lots of windings. It's designed for fatness (with help from the stock preamp) which is why they aren't so hi-fi (not that this matters much). I can get approximations of both with soapbars on my Spector mainly due to position and coil selection. But for live purposes only, they'd never pass mustard in a recording situation.
But 2,247,395 of those are from bass_ferret's aliases.
Really? Anything else we need to know?

Maybe, I really don't understand their logic. They were doing so well and now they appear to be undermining their own brand.

Maybe he's just inventing a different name for something a lot of US players call The Pocket. Basically the time period around a single beat where you can play a note in front or behind the beat without it sounding out of place.

All those gospel players are slick and really know their theory and particularly their inversions. Sharay does some incredible fills over some tricky chords sometimes. I was looking at an instructional vid yesterday on youtube showing how to do one of his fills. The presenter introduces the fill by mentioning its done over a 6 over 9 chord and later on finishes it by hoping the viewer finds lots of ways to use it. Honestly though...how often do 6 over 9 chords ever pop up in gospel? Cool vid about inversions and gospel bass here. Shows how to invert simple chords and arpeggiate up the neck as a run. Way more useful than 6 over 9 chords. My god...I'm at serious risk of practicing.

Joel Grant. Does anyone on here know him? Nice sounding Warwick too.

How sure are you that a preamp change will do what you are expecting? You can certainly increase the output (Klaus might even modify the preamp for you if you send it to him). John's preamps are very clean also (and a little sweeter in the high end). How much of what you hear is the character of the instrument rather than the preamp?
