Wow, that Zoom B3 looks interesting. I've got two Lexicon MPXG2's; one for guitar, the other for bass. They're so cheap now, its ridiculous...something like a couple of hundred quid now, including the footswitch...and they're swiss army knives. I've also got a Native Instruments Guitar Kontrol set up too via my laptop. But the thing that has kind of bugged me is the size. Its not exactly a two handed, single load out solution. Much better to have something like the B3 which can be chucked into a gig bag for most covers/function band gigs.

He's a fantastic chap to talk to over a pint.

My 98 NS5CR has a fairly thick neck and is slightly brighter (and growlier) and its incredibly comfortable - no hand cramps. The 2000 NS5CR has a thinner neck, the bass is warmer sounding (because the neck is slightly less stiff, I think) and I'm stuck between the two.

Class D. Going back to the traditional ways now...
Kiwi replied to Clarky72's topic in General Discussion
I've owned both GK and GB. The GK is warmer but also pretty aggressive in the treble. Good for rock bassists who use a pick. The Shuttle is more neutral sounding to my ears. It doesn't colour the sound so I can use different basses with it. -
Ex "name" amps don't attract same inflated prices as ex "name" guitars?
Kiwi replied to Big_Stu's topic in Amps and Cabs
I think it was mentioned on Top Gear...just part of the cooling off once the global recession kicked in. An ex-celeb car isn't as valued by the market as some sellers believe, unless there's some motoring history attached to it. -
Ex "name" amps don't attract same inflated prices as ex "name" guitars?
Kiwi replied to Big_Stu's topic in Amps and Cabs
I'd suggest it has less to do with the name and more to do with the place of that piece of kit in musical history. The price of the sold items at Entwhistles auction are an example of that in practice. Incidentally, there's a similar thing with cars owned by celebs too. One ex-Elton John Rolls Royce lost its subsequent owner money despite there being clear provenance. -
I don't have two NS5CR's are awesome basses for the price. More than a match for instruments twice their value. I've removed all the EMG stuff though as I don't like the character. No regrets after three years.

Who cares. Carol Kaye wrote them both (I think).

Was that the one on Ebay last week? They seem to be popping up a little more regularly these days.

HSS Strat for me. Best of both worlds...
Installing so many new Mods will have an impact on the dynamic of the site. It's a shame you didnt open your short-lists up for vote by the BC commutity as a whole. It's the members who make BC what it is, and this member feels this has been elitist and undemocratic. I also have no care for drummers and guitarists. I think it will dilute the brand, and de-value members. But, I suppose it's a business like anything else, although I belive you run the risk of loosing the community, and I think this has been evidenced elsewhere.
Hi Billy, I take your points on board but offer this in reply. Admins are responsible for appointing the mods on internet forums everywhere, its part of their role. In using terms like "elitist" and "undemocratic", it sounds like you feel like this is a political process, Billy. I suggest politicising the appointment of moderators will make things unnecessarily complicated and won't guarantee a better outcome. But I understand that you may value the democratic process very highly. If you have a problem with any mods, I hope you'll make one of the admin responsible for finding a solution. In regard to diluting the brand, etc...I'm struggling to follow your logic. Each forum will be wholly separate from the other, that includes branding. I'm not sure how members would be devalued in new communities and who would be doing the valuing one way or another...but I'm happy to discuss offline if you have any questions...?
If you guys are looking for someone to help with design/development, ive had some experience in designing and maintaining websites from every stage, so id be willing to help if needed.
Thanks jonsebass!
How does Basschat go about appointing new moderators? Do members put themselves forward, or do you approach members privately? Has there been a vote that I've missed?
Hi Billy, the initial selection is done on the basis of recommendations by the moderators and admin, although in the past we've sometimes advertised as well. A short list drawn up on the basis of discussion and consensus and final appointment made by the admins depending on whether those approached are willing or have the time. Criteria for being approached can include:

Good standing in the community (i.e. are respected)
Good standing with the other moderators (i.e. no warnings)
Have been an active part of the community over an extended period of time (because modding needs a little committment)

I also hope that some of these new mods retain the right to a personality
Of course not. We brain wash all of them.

Yes, we're in the process of commissioning a developer to set it up.

Hi everyone This is just a quick note to let you know of a few changes. First up we've lost two mods due to time commitments but gained six more. So we're very grateful to Urb and Mythste for helping us out and hope they'll come back again at some point when they can afford the time. However we'd also like to welcome on board Charic, Gust0o, iCastle, McGraham, MB1 and Silverfoxnik! We're also making a few admin changes. As some of you may be aware, we're hoping to start up a basschat equivalent for guitarists and drums soon. So Ped and I are finding that our time is tending to be focussed on that, more than BC although clearly we'll still be part of the chat. In the meantime, Hamster has agreed to take over the day-to-day administration of Basschat. Also, Dood and Machines have agreed to help with the establishment of the new guitar forum so Dood has become an Admin also. Thanks very much to everyone above for your help. The forum would be a different and much poorer place without your support.

Would that make Mick a Rickbacker?
-
I know! It's Tony Goggle!!! He did an album called 'Catapault'
-
Doesn't look anything like John Taylor.
-
BigRed - in some ways this thread would be perfect blog material.
-
I've been tempted by one - when I tried it before I had the highs compressed and the lows uncompressed. It was great for taming brittle sounding basses.
-
Most people yawn with their mouths...
-
By reducing mass, you can end up with a growlier bass. But its possible to go too far and have an instrument that lacks any warmth or depth.

Ads for Rickenbacker copies are being placed in the classifieds which include images that overlook John Hall's claim on trademark rights. It's the responsibility of all members using the classifieds to ensure they don't infringe on those trademark rights. I'm sure this isn't being done deliberately, but its not something the site can afford to be complacent on. Or, for that matter, members given the terms and conditions.
"You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Administrator and the Administrator's subsidiaries, affiliates, related parties, officers, directors, employees, agents, independent contractors, advertisers, partners, and co-branders, from any claim or demand, including reasonable attorney's fees, that may be made by any third party, due to or arising out of your conduct or connection with this web site or service, your provision of content, your violation of these terms of use, or any other violation of the rights of another person or party."
This means that if court action is bought against Basschat as a result of a members advert, the forum has a right to seek compensation from that member. If we find ads that contain content that puts the forum at risk, that content may be edited or deleted and a warning issued (or worse, if it attracts another complaint from John Hall before a mod has seen it). We'd be grateful for co-operation from classified users on this, it'll help everyone concerned avoid the risk of unnecessary complication.
