1. I'd look at Barefaced.........& a Crown 'D' amp (but then I'm biased)
2. Worth a 'pinned' post? ....oops......
3. If it does what you want - leave it alone.
4. ^^^ As far as a 'proper' business is concerned, this would probably contravene the Data Protection Act. There is, of course, nothing to prevent them contacting the purchaser for you.
5. ^^^^ 'Interesting' - my feelings about a return would be something on the lines of 'fvck that for a game of soldiers'...... .....but each to their own.
6. ^^^ I know a leisure lighting/sound firm (no names, no pack drill) that started in about 1986 in a Council Yard startup office space (I think the dustcarts were still using one bit) - they now run three or four huge industrial units with a stock inventory that must make Hinkley look cheap - all done by being 'nice' to their customers - it can happen, but I think it's harder now.............
7. Sly & Family Stone - Everyday People Remix - awesome
8. I think you can scale this up as well - the number of expensive cr*p enclosures (& amps) that I've suffered over the years is simply unreal. I'll spare the manfacturers blushes (some are deservedly out of business) - currently I run a split sound between Barefaced & Mackie and the results are pretty-well what I spent 40odd years looking for.............
9. Thanks for that, every little bit of info I can get will help.. I'm in retail - the business rates & rent will murder your bottom line, Only do this if you need to find out 'what if'
10. I've got a Crown Drivecore XLS2000 - which is very portable (10.8lbs) and a clutch or Ormat/Matamp kit - which is not. The heavy iron just sounds different, in a good way...(imo)
11. Think I'll stick to Barefaced...no offence....
12. Umm - I'd be a bit worried about how 'I killed the speaker' ????
13. ^^^^^ (allegedly) Aretha Franklin does the same (it's a generation thang ??)
14. Life and Death in G & A (Joe Hicks) - amazingly simple funk produced by Sly Stone............
15. I've done all this stuff - use a folding sack barrow - cheap, strong and handles kerbs and doorways with ease.
16. The 18" sub has been muttered about for quite a while now - would be nice if Alex could update us?
17. I've got a clutch of Orange/Matamps, they are mostly over 20 odd years old (one is nearly 50) and work perfectly (they have all been checked over, recently, and caps etc replaced as necessary) - If the stuff is gigged a fair bit, I think a yearly check is a good idea, even if it's just to check the bias - it's not just the reliability here, there is also a safety factor...........
18. That'll be Mustang Sally then..........?
19. Meanwhile, closer to home : I knew this studio when it was at Maple Cross (even recorded a demo there) - Google Jackson Studios, it's an interesting read (apologies for hijack......) Jackson Studios Revisited This pile of bricks is Jackson Studios, the birthplace of many iconic British sounds. We want to bring it back to life here at Chiltern Open Air Museum so that music fans, children and in fact everyone, can enjoy a trip down musical memory lane. The studio was used by Jack Jackson known as the ‘Father of DJs’ who made television and radio programmes for the BBC in the 1950s. It was then used by iconic recording artists Motorhead for the Ace of Spades, Elton John’s earliest recordings, Dr Feelgood, Eddie and the Hotrods, Ian Dury, Tom Robinson and many more. Chiltern Open Air Museum is seeking to rebuild this unique piece of history.
20. Worth bearing in mind - if something electrical goes phut soon after purchase, under the Sale of Goods act you are entitled to a full refund or a replacement item - which, at your option can be an 'upgrade' at no extra cost if the retailer is unable to get you the same model in a reasonable timespan - happened to me with a washing machine once - bought a 'second' which went wrong - got a brand new one (£200 dearer) for no more money - result...........if you accept an offer of a repair you have little in the way of rights left........
21. Thanks Tim - the shock might have been minimal (?) but the surprise was all it took...........
