  1. 8 string guitars are negating the need for bass players in some bands, Ihshan for example has a keys player and 8 strings, which I do think is a shame as it makes it hard to play material from his first two albums live, and the fretless playing on the second record brought a lot of textures that were absent later. Then in the opposite direction is a band like Bell Witch, where there's no guitar, just seven string bass and drums
  2. The new Fall Of Messiah album - (mostly) instrumental post-hardcore from France; strikes just the balance between the post and the hardcore http://fallofmessiah.bandcamp.com/album/senicarne
  3. That's good, because I don't have one of those 😁 I did try a couple of Stingray Special 5s earlier in the year and they were brilliant
  4. I keep thinking about this bass, looks stunning
  5. I had a '95 SB2 in that exact finish, it's lovely. I really like the look of these with the EMGs, will have to try and play one some day
  6. Sticking to just one bass, Wal Mk III 5 string EBS 802 head 2x EBS Proline 4x10, one Mic'd in an isolation cabinet
  7. Sounds great, if you can record any audio or video I'd love to hear it 😀
  8. That looks really interesting, so you know what the pickups/electronics are? What's the scale length?
  9. Oh man, I really wanted to buy this, but I'm still waiting for my promotion (and therefore pay rise) kick in, have a blast with it 😀
  10. There are one or two venues I might consider playing for expenses as a one off to help them out, if they paid us £20 each to cover our petrol and a burger on the way home and then plied us with soft drinks for the duration of the gig I'd probably be willing for the right venues. It would have to be made clear to the venue that this will happen exactly once though and only, due to the exceptional circumstances.
  11. I enjoyed that, and yes definetly sounds like it was an influence on Lingua Ignota. In Hayter's case, her work is a cathartic expression of her experience as an abuse survivor
  12. Probably a little different to much of this thread, but I adore these two Lingua Ignota (stage name for Krysten Hayter) Julie Christmas, here fronting Made Out Of Babies
  13. Saw this on Obscura's Facebook page "Massive Framus & Warwick bass collection by Jeroen Paul Thesseling! 🤘 From left to right: Warwick Thumb NT6 w/ Wenge fretboard (1989); Warwick Thumb NT6 fretless w/ Asian Ebony fingerboard (1989); Warwick Thumb NT6 fretless w/ Ebony fingerboard (1991); Warwick Thumb NT6 w/ Wenge fretboard (1991); Warwick Thumb NT6 fretless w/ Macassar Ebony fingerboard (1993); Warwick Thumb NT7 fretless w/ Ebony fingerboard (2011); Warwick Thumb NT7 fretless w/ Snakewood fingerboard (2013); Warwick Thumb NT7 fretless w/ Ebony fingerboard (2017) #framuswarwick #warwickcustomshop #obscura Photo credit: Jurgen Heerkens"
  14. Case in point, I made it 93 seconds into a Muse album this morning before being interrupted
  15. Less than I did, I changed job roles in May and previously I could listen to music pretty much uninterrupted whilst I worked, now I'm lucky to get more than 2 minutes before someone wants me. I also got into a couple of Podcasts, so much of my commute is now spent listening to murder or mythology, rather than music. Dog walks are good for listening to music though.
  16. The Mk 3 five string I played at the SE Bass Bash a few years ago was the finest bass I've played and it's been top of my GAS list since. This was the one in fact At those prices I doubt I'll own one though, certainly not a new one.
  17. Lead times are a function of material availability, production capacity and order book size. Assuming Paul's capacity stays the same - it's him and one other guy I think? Then if lead times are extending I'd guess Wal's suppliers are extending their lead times, probably due to COVID: delays in production due to people being off, or working from home and delays in shipping - everything is taking longer and costing more to ship around the world at the moment. It's also quite possible that to in order minimise price increases, Wal are holding less inventory on the shelf and only ordering it, and therefore paying for it, when needed; delaying the start of a production order until that material comes in. Of course as @OliverBlackman says above, if they keep increasing prices, then the demand may go down (particularly in this climate), which will reduce their orderbook and reduce the lead time.
  18. The most recent Greg Puciato single, can't wait for the full album in October
  19. Used to have one of these, do miss it
  20. Steven Wilson is many things, but a good lyricist is not one of them
  21. Thanks for those, Quo are one of those bands that on paper don't do much for me, but look like they'd be incredible fun live
  22. Having a bit of idle graphite GAS, I was looking up videos of Status basses recently, and there don't seem to be many on YouTube. At least not of five strings, or that aren't slap-happy Mark King tributes (not that there's anything inherently wrong with that, just not my bag). So, anyone got videos of Status, or even Modulus, Zon etc basses in the wild? Bonus points for ERB
  23. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Live-Hyde-Park-Chili-Peppers/dp/B0002HTZJI/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=live+in+hyde+park&qid=1594675026&sprefix=live+in+hyde+&sr=8-3 I don't think it's available digitally, it's not on Spotify
  24. From the great bass playing on a live album thread, I got the RHCP Live at Hyde Park album; it's superb, loads of hits from the By The Way era, the bass mixed well (which it's not always with the Chilis live sets) and great improvisation and playing off each other. Having that on in the car this morning set me up nicely for the day.
