  1. Emma Ruth Rundle is stylistically very different to Thou, though I think they share a similar ethos. Their collaboration from last year - May Our Chambers Be Full - is spectacular https://thou.bandcamp.com/album/may-our-chambers-be-full
  2. No, fortunately nor that far a drive 😀 we're at a golf course in Kent not far from the M25
  3. I spoke with our singer last night, as I was surprised our wedding booking for the 26th of June is still going ahead. Having now read through all the rules/guidance on the government website it looks like the venue have worked at a solution that lets us play To be honest, I was kinda hoping it was going to be cancelled as it's a fair drive and we've got a dep guitarist we've not used before; but it is nice to know we'll be playing next weekend.
  4. I've been almost exclusively listening to the new AFI record since it came out last Friday I'm a big fan of these guys, from the ages of 16-20 they were my favourite band in the world, but from what I'd heard of the pre-release tracks I wasn't digging the new direction and wasn't really expecting to enjoy the album much. However, it's brilliant and I can't stop listening to it, the songs work really well in the context of the album and once you make peace with the fact they've moved on and matured their sound it's just a great record. Album of the year so far for me.
  5. It's easy to overlook as it's a little overshadowed by Angel Dust and The Real Thing, but I think it may be my favourite of theirs.
  6. I'm listening to Faith No More at the moment and Billy Gould's tone on King For A Day.... is absolutely brilliant
  7. I've just bought a EBS TD650, so can't wait to try that in a band setting. I also bought a Keeley Caverns a couple of months ago and whilst it's probably completely impractical in the sort of band I'm in, I'm sure I'll find a way to make use of it.
  8. Love a bit of Liam Wilson
  9. Post-metal is a genuine genre (see Cult Of Luna), but it sounds almost nothing like Ghost
  10. Yesterday I received a EBS TD650 from Bagsieblue of this parish. Only had a low volume play through of it so far, but very impressed with what I've heard. I bought it to replace my HD350 which has an intermittent fault, and I've had a Fafner in the past, so I knew pretty much what to expect. Straight away was that glorious, powerful, crystal-clear sound that EBS are famous for; first impression is that it's a little tighter and more refined sounding than the HD350, probably because of the bigger power stage. However, it's early days at low volume and I've not actually used the HD350 in over a year, so make your own mind up about how much value there is in that comparison 😀 First gig will be a wedding on the 26th of June, assuming no more restrictions, can't wait to use it in anger.
  11. https://linguaignota.bandcamp.com/album/caligula Wallowing in misery with Lingua Ignota
  12. I really like Rolo Tomasi, their most recent album is particularly good
  13. I mostly listen to music that is under the extreme metal umbrella (post-hardcore, mathcore, grindcore, black metal, post-metal, metal-core, death metal, sludge, doom), so pretty heavy I'd say. For example the last five albums I bought were by Terrorizer, Godflesh, Neurosis, Din Of Celestial Birds and Greg Puciato. I'm not sure if today is a Bandcamp Friday or not, but I'm planning on buying albums by Cave In, Botch and The Armed
  14. Withered Fist - This Is My Mountain https://witheredfist.bandcamp.com/album/this-is-my-mountain They're a Basschatter's band, but I forget who it is 😀
  15. Must be a different Graham old chap, that wasn't me 😀 Trust me, you don't want me setting up your bass😆
  16. Some classic grind: Terrorizer - World Downfall
  17. I think short scale and lightweight gear, though not my taste are going to continue to be popular, particularly given the "white men of a certain age" demographic of Basschat
  18. You might have to switch to drums, recruiting a bassist and guitarist would probably be easier then
  19. Today has been VOLA - Witness Electric Wizard - Time To Die Electric Wizard - Wizard Bloody Wizard I'd imagine a few folk around here might like the new VOLA record, it was like a djent Porcupine Tree, @odysseus I think you'd enjoy it https://open.spotify.com/album/30RmzbD5a5hqRPgyzBq7La?si=UMoebSY9RHSAdfyG-kPETA&utm_source=copy-link
  20. I've very recently started getting into Nine Inch Nails, I should have listened to them years ago. I've never really listened to Radiohead, based on the bands they've influenced I really should, but never felt the need.
  21. There was a EBS HD360 Special Edition for sale with 2x Proline 2x10s, I wasn't in a position to buy and the head went. Given the rarity of those special editions, that still haunts me.
  22. To quote a previous Prime Minister, I agree with Nick! I have one of these and it's brilliant, this one is even in a more attractive finish. Pre-Covid, I visited Guitar Guitar and Wunjos in London and tried out Sadowsky, Musicman, Sandberg and Dingwall basses and preferred my DJ5 to all of them
  23. I'd describe my musical preferences as narrow, but deep - where I'm heavily focused around various sub-genres of metal. I like jazz, pop, hip-hop and folk as well and will go through periods of listening to them quite a bit, but those drop away in a week or so. I also have a tendency to get really into a specific metal sub-genres for a year or two at a time, it was doom, then I switched to black metal, these days it's post-hardcore/mathcore
