1. I've had my eye on one of these for quite a while - almost picked one up back end of last year, but just missed out Just a quick couple of questions... Where did you find it in the end? Will there be a full review soon? Cheers John
2. Hi Bren and welcome onboard... Cheers, I'll have a guinness
3. Coming along nicely - really liking the body shape you've got going on there and of course the natural with the black pickguard is a classic combination, great stuff... Can you stay at the workshop to do your homework or do you have to get everything done in a set time during the day?, I know what I'm like and if possible i'd be putting in as many extra hours as I could to try and make as good a job of it as I could. That said I guess Jon has it all worked out and if you follow his instruction there won't be any issues and he probably quite likes going home too Looking forward to tomorrow's installment, great thread you've got going here and thanks for info on the finish
4. Seems like good progress for day 1, you must be pleased with your efforts What sort of finish are you planing on having, is a proper paint job out if the question in the timescale?
5. Nice one Scoop I had a brief (and unplugged) play on Peter's ACG at the bash and it felt very comfortable to wear, not to mention looking great - if I was in the market for another bass I would be considering asking Alan to make me something. Hope it all works out as planned, look forward to seeing in the flesh too...
6. Cool - be really interested in your experience and looking forward to seeing your creation... I spoke with Jon at Bass Day last year with a veiw to doing eaxctly this - I've been so busy lately that I not even had chance to get a spec over to Jon for his feedback but it is something I'd really like to do... Have a great time
7. No (*touch wood) - no issues at all I've also got one [RA300] in my home studio rack too and never had any issues that one either so I'd say from a reliability point of view buy with confidence. The RA500 was an extra 1u in height of if I recall and heavier too, but if you need the extra power go for it
8. Hi there - the Alesis is mine... it's a studio power amp really but for the work I do I don't need loads of power. The reason I went for it was that it doesn't have any fans, so is silent running (some of the smaller gigs I do can be quite intimate affairs). Puts out 300W at 8ohms in bridged mode which is a perfect match for my Epi UL112. It's not the lightest power amp in the world but not bad (more details here) so all in all it's quite a lighweight rig. As to wether it will suit your needs it depends on the power you requirements, I'd say it's pretty transparent so would probably work well with your POD and they are pretty cheap too, think I payed about £120 delivered for mine...
9. Great to hear that so many of you enjoyed the day, I'm just sorry I didn't have enough time to have a proper chat with everyone (that'll teach me being at a rehearsal and getting there late) I'm sure there will be another one organised before too long
10. Hey guys Thanks to you all for turning out - won't have been much of a bash without you Seemed that a good time was had by all and as previously mentioned good to put some names to faces and great to meet some like minded bass folk . Thanks to Chris and Chris (Ped) for the venue and to you all for contributing towards it... Cheers John
11. Hi all - tomorrow's the day, just a quick note to say looking forward to it - see you down there
12.
Is this all still the same.....? See you all down there Sunday 1pm ish.....! Dave Perry
Yeah details as is - Ped will be there earlier so if you want to get down a bit early then I don't see that being a problem, I'll get there as soon as I can after my rehersal (assuming I can play again by Sunday!) See you there...
13. I think it looks pretty good - the detail in binding on the neck is a little OTT but overall not bad, I wonder how it plays
14. Hi Stew and welcome, it's scary when you actually stop to think how long you've been playing, I'm 32 later this year and started playing bass in my last year in high school, so a similar length of time to your good self, where does the time go... you ever though of playing in goal?
15. Talking of left handed - I managed to bugger up my left wrist on Tuesday night by falling awkwardly on it during a game of badminton I went to A&E Wednesday morning for an x-ray, luckily no fracture just some tendon damage... still sore but I've got exercises to try and get it in some sort of shape for the weekend (rehearsals and of course the bash). All being well I'll be able to play a bit by weekend but even if I can't I'll still pop down to put some names to face - see you all there...
16. welcome - you want a lead, talk to OBBM
17.
This would be the bash in St annes? I may just feel a little out of place being new to the forums and probably quite young and probably not as good as any of you =[ and not having as many basses and not as many amps... i could go on forever Just as long as I get to play a 6 string (which I shall do very badly) and/or a 5 string fretless, i'll be ok Sounds a lot of fun though!
Obsidiandesire - the guys are referring to the Northampton bash here - the St Annes one (mini NW bash) will be something along the same lines I'm sure, just a different venue - ie in a studio so not next door to a pub but that's not important... Don't panic about coming along - the St Annes bash will be my first time too and I'll have my Fretless 5 for you to have a go on - see you there
18. Well my ER20s arrived on Friday morning as planned (forked out the extra £4 for next day delivery) and used them at rehearsal yesterday - it was so nice to spend all last night without the usual aural interference that occurs following an afternoons' practice... Must admit it was a little strange at first but I quickly got used to the way things sounded when they were in and I'm pleased to report that in my mind it didn't affect my playing at all (opinions may vary ). If anything the bass was more prominent in my head that it usually is even though according to the rough recording we made at the weekend its not loud enough in the actual acoustic mix although that's probably more to do with the small mic attached to my minidisk player and the poor acoustics in the room... All in all glad I tried them out and will be using them for the foreseeable with the rock trio
19. A quick week to the day bump
20. Ahh, I guess that makes it a bit tricky with be being up North and all... I'm sure some of the other guys will have EA gear at the main bash in Northampton, I think there is a list in the main bass bash thread...
21.
I'm thinking about EA because the tone shaping facilities and its class D so very light!
Hey zapp - Where abouts are you? I've got an EA iAmp200 combo with all the tone shaping etc if you want to try it. I'll be taking it to the NW mini bash next weekend... I've also got a Epi UL112 which is a great cab
22. Good evening and welcome
