1. My Overwater is 11lbs - I'm guessing this is relatively pretty heavy - my Fender P is only 9lbs 3/4 and from what I've read these are generally considered reasonably weighty...
2. Hey Dan Whilst we're discussing single cuts - what does Doodle weigh in at? I'm considering going for one but am a little concerned about the weight issue, in light (did you see what I did there) of some recent back problems...
3. Very nice - I'm on the look out for a UL310 myself - currently using a UL112 which is cool and sounds great, but just fancy a bigger spread
4.
Cheers fella - you'd be amazed at how light this bass actually is - I think it's going to be lighter than the fretless on my avatar <<< - because it's ash on the wings and maple on the thru-neck it's essentially made of very light woods - both great tone woods however. The stringers through the neck are Wenge which is hard as hell - as is the ebony finger board - but again they are both relatively light. As for the facings they are so light it's untrue - and even though they look incredible are one of the least important (sound-wise anyway) components... but hey they really are ridiculously lovely The overall feel of the bass - even minus strings - is a very compact instrument that will (hopefully) be very easy to play - and almost as importantly - wear for hours at a time. I have had some serious issues with the weight of my thru-neck Thumb bass of late - getting it to gigs and rehearsals on my back and then playing for two hours then getting home - has really made my back sore at times. Not good! I'm not the young pup I was once and I really want to avoid any injury - this bass will go a long way to helping me achieve that. I'll hopefully have some more progress to report soon - but hey - she'll be ready when she's ready. M
Very interesting - I weighed my Overwater and Fender P last night just out of interest... I've been having a spot of back trouble myself tweaked it the other weekend lifting gear out of the theatre pit and thought that having the bass strapped on for a long rehearsal (4 hours) on Sunday was probably a contributory factor to it not getting any better. My Overwater weighed in at 11lbs, really quite heavy and the P at pretty standard 9lb 3/4. I've been thinking about trying to find a lighter alternative - I love my Overwater and I've had it over 4 years as my main bass, so would be reluctant to change, however I only have one back and don't want to make it any worse than it already is... I like the look of a single cut but was concerned that it would equal more weight - but as you quite rightly point out its the woods that are used rather than the shape that I should be more focused on. My Overwater is a Walnut core with an Ash top, Maple and Purpleheart thru neck, and Ebony board (fretless). I'm guessing the Walnut is the key element here as there's not really enough of any of the others to make a real impact. I'd be interested to know what your new bass weighs in at when you get hold of it - bet you can't wait I'm sure she'll sound even better than she looks John
5. Hey David - good to have you 'officially' onboard - welcome... I'm sure you'll have plenty to contribute and a story or few from the past 20 years

Hi....

Nice one Dave - glad to hear it... I've had a number of bits and pieces off Dave (including a mod to my BBE Bmax T as well as serveral different bespoke cables) and can't recommend him highly enough, great quality, service and value for money
8. Fantastic progress - looks stunning - does the single cut design mean the bass is much heavier than a standard shape?
9. Hi Karl and welcome... Sure you'll find loads of advice and opinions on here, glad to hear you've made it back to bass
10. I got a Jaco duplicate - The Birthday Concert - some great playing on here and features a whole host of top names inc Peter Erskine, Michael Brecker and Bob Mintzer. Brand new and unopened too Let me know if it's your kind of thing...
11.
Past - Buddy Rich Present - Vinnie Colaiuta
+1 - Good calls
Ringo. Or failing that, futureman.
Futureman - Victor's brother, on drumitar, interesting choice
12. Beautiful - I've often wondered about the practicality of a maple board on a fretless, quite fancy one... hmm
13. Just a quick post to say thanks again for the recommendations - my new strings arrived from Germany yesterday, in good time and cheaper than I could have got them (if I could find any) in the UK - splendid
14. Jeff Hamilton for me - he has awesome feel, I'll never be John Clayton but it would be a joyous experience

19. *points finger* LOL this is not a nice looking bass...
20. I've sent a couple of PMs (yesterday) and had no response and as you say they don't appear in your sent items - could explain why I missed out on Bleedproofs UL310
21.
thanks for the responses guys, had a quick look at the epiphanie, starting to get a bit expensive, although that was the bass gallery and may well shop around for a better price. What about the sound on the G string i be able to get it mellow and heavy with this set up, as an aside would a change to flat wound strings start to give me more of the sound i'm after N
I picked up my UL112 off this very forum - I agree the new prices are a bit steep - keep an eye out and something will turn up... With regards the G string - IMO the ultimate set up is a good even response across all the stings (however many that may be). That said the two extremes of the range are usually the hardest get the sound you want from - ideally a tight but full bottom end and a sweet rounded top is what I guess we're all ultimately looking for. All the elements in the rig have a bearing on these - right from the fingertips or plectrum, through the strings (round/flats/coated etc), the bass itself (as I'm sure you're aware there is much debate surrounding the various tonal characteristics of the different materials used in bass production), the pre-amp/amp/cabinet combination (and there are so many options to explore here). All you can do is experiment until you find the combination of all of the above that gives you what you want - what works for me in my situation might not do it for you in yours, by all means ask the questions and take the advice, there are plenty of experienced guys/gals on here who are more than happy to pass on their knowledge. but at the end of the day it's your sound and we all hear things differently... Don't be afraid to try different sets of strings - what's the worst that can happen - it might cost you a few quid?... Hope you find the sound you looking for
22. If you're looking at lightweight have you considered the Epifani UL112? I've got one of these and am most happy with it. It's really light, very well put together and has the capability to move some air for such a small cab... Must admit I've not had the chance to try the other cabs mentioned - they are hi-end cabs so I'm guessing either should be really good. As an aside I've got an EA iAmp200 combo - again small, lightweight yet packs a punch - that I might be selling, feel free to drop me a PM if you're interested
