Depends on the gig... For standard bigband gigs we have 'branded' black shirts with white logo... For special (in conjunction with the Southport Melodic Jazz Club) bigband gigs we have 'branded' red shirts with the band logo For pit work (not really stage wear I know) - casual/smart blacks For other theatre work (when the bands on show) it's usually dinner jackets and bow ties For everything else it's usually black of some discription It's a good job I like black and have lots of black clothes...

for a unique finish - rather than manuscript why not cover it with pages from the yellow pages or the phone book - 'got your number', 'got your number' *note to self stop - making silly suggestions*

Hey Guys Up for grabs is my Focusrite Platinum Trakmaster Pro - been racked since I bought it so in A1 condition and works perfectly. Selling as I've just tracked down the BBE Bmax T I've been after at a great price so this is now surplus to requirements. Only ever been used in the studio and comes complete with manual and original packaging - great tool for recording vocals as well as bass. Available for £160-70 various places on the web all details from focusrite here I'm looking for £110 plus whatever it costs to post it to you. Photos to follow over the weekend... PM me

Wanting to add a tube preamp sound to my rig...
jwbassman replied to OutToPlayJazz's topic in Effects
I too am looking at the valve pre amp situation - I like the look of the BBE BMax T and was seriously tempted by the SWR that was for sale on here a couple of weeks back, also the Mesa Walkabout Scout Combo with the valve pre would be of interest, again missed out on one on here a couple of weeks ago... I'd be interested to know what you end up going with... -
I've played bass with Gerrard Kenny (wrote the Minder theme tune) on piano My bigband has backed the likes of Liane Carrol, Andy Wood and Simon Spillett Did I mention that I've played for the Queen (Natural History Museum) and performed at the Royal Albert Hall... twice

for that sort of cash you'd should certainly think about EA - lightweight with a tight, clean sound - worth considering

I spotted it a few days ago, but never got round to posting on here about it... What is it with headstock - I know it's a matter of personal taste but there's just something about it that looks a little odd to me

I'd say my style is to keep it simple - why play a million notes when one is more effective? Concentrate on the groove and keeping good time - it's fundamenatal stuff but it's easy to lose sight of. This approach has served me well for over 15 years, in many different situations, styles of music and various bands. Always bear in mind what your role is in any given musical situation and play appropriately. You know the way that some instruments just fit the personality of the player, well that's me and the bass and the way I approach my playing.. Remember that no matter how you approach your bass playing always enjoy what your doing
-
'a' pint to loosen up is always a good idea - but there is a limit at which point no matter how well you think you're playing, you're not
-
Hey Warwickhunt No offense taken, no backs up round here Your probably right - when it comes to the differences, the further up the ladder you go the smaller they get, to the point of being imperceptible - that's when personal taste, marketing, looks etc come into play... All of the products out there will perform the job (to an acceptable standard hopefully) but it's what makes me use one product and you use another that makes the world the interesting place that it is Long live the debate... John
Yes you get better gear for more money but at the end of the day the reason you won't go back to Peavey is because you will have joined the ranks of the 'Amp Snobs'
I'm not sure it's about being a snob - in general terms the phrase 'you get what you pay for' in my experience has always been true... don't get me wrong, I'd be the first in the queue to nab a bargain, but how many times have you actually got a bargain? I have always tried to buy the best quality gear I can afford and I always look after it, no matter how much (or little) it cost. If the best you can afford at any given time is a reliable Peavy rig, then it's the right decision... I've made the progression through Carlsbro, Peavy, Trace and currently EA gear and every one has been the right decision at the time to suit my available budget and playing requirements - if that makes me an 'amp snob' then I guess I am
-
my first proper bass amp was a TNT115 (I had a carlsbro before that, but it wasn't really proper) - the TNT was a great amp at the time, did everything it needed to - but agree with Hutton, once you've made that step up you won't be going back... I don't know that £300 is a great deal but it doesn't sound too bad
-
Nice one - hope it's as good as you hope it is I've dropped you a PM re another of your ebay purchases...

Hey Pete Does that mean you won it?
