1. must admit I've been chuffed with the interest - I've posted about a few other bits and pieces and only had a handful of replies so it's been good to topic that has engaged with the masses - thanks for all your responses guys there's loads of new players here for me to investigate...
2. Hey Dan I guess 'cool' is subjective - hence the wide variety of guys put forward on this thread - I think it also depends on your personal aspirations John
3. You can buy a new one for £279.00 so I'd make that a starting point - good nick second hand you'll be looking at approx £200 there or there abouts I would have thought... I've got the Zoom MRS1266 (which you can't get anymore, been replaced by the 1608 I think). These machines are fantastic, I've recorded all sorts of stuff with mine, the quality is awesome for what they costs and would be ideal for making top quality demo tapes etc and a damm sight cheaper than studio time... and with built in effects (some better than others), drum tracks (great for just laying something down to, you can always revisit it which is what I do) etc, if you're think about getting one, then do... Have a bump on me
4. I know nothing about DB's but on the face of it looks genuine - quite tempted myself
5. I've used Overwater strings for ages - at £17.95 a set I'd say there pretty good value and sound great on my Overwater fretless 5 - link give 'em a try
6. Hey Dan Just looked over you 'rough' build page - there's nothing rough about it mate - absolutley stunning what an awesome bass... *mental note to self, I've got to arrange that visit so I get to see it in the flesh* John
7. Hey Dan looks like all these good people and waiting until I've rearranged my visit update on the wife - feeling better today but still signed off work all week - wish I was signed off (but without the sinusitus) then I could come and see you Cheers John
8. Thanks for all the suggestions and links - looks like I've got some more research to do
9. Sounds cool - looking forward to seeing it develop
10. Cool - that top is lovely - sounds great too, really liking the track

Superb looks fantastic...
12.
I like dan Veall, but I think he is way under rated lol
13. Sweet - why do things always look better in black?
14. Thanks for the info guys some good stuff here - completely new to value stuff so need all the help I can get... Not looking for a stereo setup in particluar, in actual fact it's probably not required at all... Have been looking into a valve pre (possibly a BBE BMax F or something similar) and ss power amp - ideally at 1u each to go into a 2u rack to keeps things neat and portable - but as always open to ideas from you guys with experience of such things...
15.
In any list of 'Cool' bass players, you have to put Phil Lynott near the top. Gay Byrne (TV chat show host), "Phil, what's it like to be black and Irish?" - Phil, "It's like being a pint of Guinness." Hamster
That's great - drinking guinness comes second only to bass playing in terms of the top things to do in my house
Jason Newsted....c'mon he's a cat. And that Wooten character's quite chilled lol
I must agree Victor is pretty cool - once again he makes it all look so easy...
16. After a bit of research I think it was a Walter Woods amp he was using tonight...
17. Hey guys just got back from seeing jools holland at the Southport Summer Classics... and my vote for the coolest bass player has to go to mr dave swift - he was awesome... just layed it down all night, which is no mean feat playing with the likes of 'monster left hand' jools and gilson... he was using a EBS 4x10 cab, not sure what amp but it wan't the ebs on his website - he used a rob allen 5 all night and it sounded fantatsic - more info here... he just stood there in his wrap around shades (it was dark by the time they had finished) and barely moved all night, only from the elbow down and the head going... that guy is too cool just looked so relaxed it was so easy for him, not a dot of music all night and never missed a beat... superb any other guys out there that should be on this list?
18. What would you suggest instead?
19. Well worth the asking price - I already had one of the albums but was an absolute bonus to get the other one for free...
20.
Hi John! It's no problem. Please send my very best wishes to your wife and hope that she does get better soon. Ladies and Gentlemen, My Jon Shuker Elite 6 is still available. I am inviting all to come over and try the bass out. It is simply beautiful and can not stress how nice this bass is. Easily up there with the very best of custom basses. John, if you wish to set a day to come over, please do. Full photographic loveliness on page one!
Thanks again Dan - Sue's feeling a bit better today (keeps taking the drugs) - keep me posted and we'll try and organise another time if it's still available in a couple of weeks time, speak soon...
21. I'll have a look into it...
22. That was my concern - 20/20 doesn't seem much, but then valve amps are that much louder than SS, so I didn't completely discount it... Thanks for the info - looks like I won't be bothering with this one then... Cheers John
23. Hi guys Just been browsing ebay and found this - question is, would it be any good for a bass rig? Also what happens if you combine a valve preamp with a valve power amp - do you get double the valve tone? Any light shed on this much appreciated... Cheers John
