1. on my 2002 (ish) mexican Jazz bass one of the screws that are used for setting the height of the Bridge Saddles on the E-string has during the course of playing started lowering the height of the string, causing all sorts of intonation and fret buzz issues while I am playing. beyond replacing the screw is there anything I can do quickly and easily to stop it doing this? thank you
2.
I have never and will never use couriers to transport any of my stuff. When selling, I always stipulate collection in person. When buying, I'll collect myself, partly because I want to try items for myself before I buy, but mainly because I'll take care of them in transit. I feel for you.
Sadly this is why whenever I sell or buy anything i Prefer to pick it up in person or have the buyer pick it up. I realise that that will put some people off buying stuff from me (or selling to me for that matter) but as a result whenever I've sold something here (or elsewhere) I know for a fact it has arrived securely, and as a side benefit I've met some really nice Basschatters out of it too. I hope the courier company doesn't make claiming for this harder than it should be. good luck!
3. posted in the other Pestie feedback thread, but for good measure Just bought a BH250 from Pestie, great communication, and a top honest chap. buy stuff from him with confidence. just wish I could have stayed and chatted a bit longer.

5. Ok I'll take it. I'll PM you my Mobile number.
6. is the TC cab still available and are you still in North London?
7. I was mainly concerned with Pub gigs, as I find myself starting fresh with one band. that said I've just got home from a gig with a covers band I play in and despite knowing the venue there were some surprising results, where some songs that I expected to go over really well, were quite coldly received and others that seemed to be 'not the kind of songs' for that pub went really well. regardless of how much of a 'Highway to Hell' it might be (and we did get someone ask for AC/DC) I think the principle of people up and dancing and getting thirsty is pretty much what Landlords want, but is there anything more to it? and what kind of thinking do we do about the particular pub we might be playing on a given Saturday night in terms of Set list or inclusion of original songs? what do you look for? more questions, and I may have just Hijacked my own thread a little, but hopefully you will all forgive me for that.
8. I'm in the process of starting a new band with the remaining members of a previous one (incidentally if you know any vocalists that can get to Liphook on a Tuesday night, send me a message...) and in light of the change in licensing laws last October allowing all pubs to put on live music until 11PM with little difficulty I started thinking about this in a different way, well what is it that they want from covers and originals bands? so who are a Local Bands customers? and what is it that they want? and how do I go about with my band mates giving them that? don't get me wrong I appreciate that there are an awful lot of details behind the very simple answers to those questions, and what I was hoping to inspire in this thread is a discussion about this part of the Business of running a band at 'pub level'. as far as I can see it, at this level there is very little difference between the answers for a covers band or an originals band at this level, your 'customer' is always the venue, the pub you are playing in, whether you are doing a gig with a couple of other local original bands (or on your own if you have enough songs), or if you are in there with your well polished covers band essentially you are after that sought after thing, a re-booking (and I'm sure in a lot of cases a paid re-booking). so what is it that the customer wants for that? and how do you and your bands go about delivering that? just at a pub level mind I'm not wanting to get into the realms of 500+ person venues or function gigs here, just proper grass roots of being in a band. remember to play nice.
9. I have a Mk1 Ford Galaxy, which fits my Bass rig, many basses and the Band PA with still room for more. just a shame that the immobiliser broke this week and the part it needs is 'Main dealer only' and is no longer made by Ford. if you need me I'll be in a breakers yard somewhere.
10. I quite liked the Jeremy Cunningham interview, a great lesson about how to work in a band situation. going to read the Dave Swift interview later.
11. I would like to submit the following three Jeremy Cunningham Steve Vantsis Nick Beggs
12. not really a lot to say, £20 and you come and get it. (I'm not posting it - it isn't worth it for either of us) This is an 8 channel Mixing Desk, it is quite Old (I suspect early 1990's) Comes with original Instruction manual, Rack Mounting kit complete with Screws and Power cable. only thing that is a bit broken is the R main mix fader, see attached pictures (apologies for lack of quality) I found this video of one, but the chap in this has modified his quite a bit. and picture of the one I am offering... and a picture of the Damaged Fader and now some questions I should have answered the first time round but didn't, because it is late at night and I am tired... (Thanks Essexbasscat) Where are you based ? I'm in High Wycombe does everything work ok ? as far as I can tell it all works fine, other than the plastic bit on the fader coming off. inc. headphones out ? That said I've never tried the headphone out, will try and test it and report back - will need to find adapter, please bear with me. any noise in operation ? it is a little noisy, but then I was using it with brand new Mackie Powered Speakers, nothing that struck me as out of the ordinary. Also, always best if you PM me as then i get an e-mail saying that one of you lovely people are trying to ask me something.
13. Joel, welcome, Kudos and all that. Maybe you could look into doing some of the more 'business' side of being bass players, either looking at getting session work in theaters and how to get into it, to the more basic stuff about promoting your Original Math Rock/Jazz/Reggae fusion band to your mates for that gig at the Dog and Duck so that the landlord will bung you some beer and petrol money...
(you'd be amazed how many contentious issues there are between Land Rover enthusiasts.)
bizzarely, I believe you underestimate some of us
14. Just bought a Bass Big Muff from Gust0o, accuratley described in the for sale thread, responded promptly to all my messages, posted it promptly once he had confirmed receipt of the payment and it arrived well packaged and safe, and it all worked really well. in summary: Gust0o = reliable seller and I wouldn't hesitate to buy stuff from him again. thanks
15. I'll Take it, PM on its way
16. I have my Cab and a spare Head that anyone can use, by my Amp is My amp and unless I know them or believe they are trustworthy then there is no chance of them using it. a lot of the time I offer my cab and spare head on the basis that when we play I get to use my own rig, and even my spare head isn't a terrible one. aside from my selfish reason, I do this mainly to help out some of the promoters that we play with, these guys do bend over backwards to help us (I'm not saying all promoters do, but I believe that there is another thread on that) so if we are on the bill and it helps out in a venue where there isn't really space to store 4 bands worth of kit then I don't mind (which is a great song by the Band 'Drain STH')

20. Smallest Stage Thinking For Tuesday have played on has to be St James Wine Vaults in Bath, got 4 of us with my Ampeg, 2 2x12 guitar amps and the drumkit on the 'stage' (about 3" riser above the floor) and our singer was stood between the PA speakers trying to to get the mic to far forward. I think there are Pictures of the stage on their website. Incidentally it is a fantastic place to play, if any of you get the chance! Blademan, I'm sure i've seen you round Aylesbury, next time I'll Say 'hi!' (for reference me and my ampeg as avatar pic)
21. PM'd the contact for a chap I know of in Aylesbury.
22.
In terms of rehearsal spaces check out West Star Studios in High Wycombe, really nice people and have a decent amount of rooms with amps/cabs in each room - they also serve food/drinks!
West Star Studios are THE place to go for rehearsal round here, not too expensive, really nice people, real relaxed atmosphere and the rooms generally have ok kit. With this many of us, maybe we should be organising a Bucks Bass Bash
23. there is a Place in the Centre of Aylesbury (down the alley to the Side of the HSBC Bank) Called 'Shoot Pool' and they put live music on most weeks. I can't remember if it is fortnightly or monthly but the Rockwood also has an acoustic night on Sundays. The chaps that organise this occasionally put on a weekend festival or two over the summer, but that can be dependant of getting the backing to put them on. as Lozz mentioned there is the White Swan, and I believe I've seen bands in 'the Kingsbury' recently but never on a Saturday night. about twenty minute drive from Aylesbury you have Leighton Buzzard which has a venue called 'the Wheatsheaf' and there are a few places in High Wycombe, but I need to have a proper look at those again before I tell you about them Hope that helps
24. I heard it this morning on there too, got a 'Not their best' from me. I think the comment that summed it up was 'VH by numbers' oh, and Fender73, it sounds nothing like a single by Extreme...
25. I have one of the Fender Jaguar Baritone Customs that they did for a few years a while ago. in fact the Fender rep (who happened to be the tech that set up my basses at the time) said that it was the last one for sale in Europe when I bought it. sounds great and I may have some recordings somewhere of me using it in a previous band. I've just started introducing it into Thinking For Tuesday and trying to work out how to make it fit. as for playing it, you really don't want to be playing chords in open positions as it is just muddy as anything, but you can get some great sounds just playing walking lines or 'riffing'. it does have quite a bassy tone. on the higher register you get some great sounds with either chords or walking lines and it sounds a bit more like a guitar up there. overall a fantastic instrument and the change in tone between the lower and higher register on it is quite smooth so you can get it to work quite nicely. if you find one for sale Jan I recommend it, but I'm keeping this one hope that 5 string Jazz is still working out for you though!
