Won't get fired again!

The opportunity arose a couple of weeks ago, when we played on a cramped stage where there wasn't really enough room for a double bass. I used my Epiphone Century, HPF and a bit of always-on compression into the Walkabout Scout and the Monza. EQ'd out quite a lot of the bass, boosted the lower mids a bit and it sounded rich, warm and authoratative. 2 bass players in the audiece came up and raved about the sound.

Very nice work. Saved another one. More Abigail Washburn than Bela Fleck, I think that's going to sound very authentic for old-time.

£22 for two sets of D'Addario Nickel on Amazon

Seems slightly odd that long scale length is a custom set with a slightly heavier E. if you want standard long scale lights, the price goes up to £33 for a 2-pack. -
Ethernet cable I can use at a gig
pete.young replied to franzbassist's topic in Repairs and Technical
Or go for the volume approach: buy a reel of cable, a crimp tool and some RJ45 connectors, and make yourself a new cable for each gig. -
Coo, a Westminster. My dad had one of those when I was about 7. You could talk to Paul Glazebrook, he looked at my son's Burman a couple of months ago.

You're very welcome to come round and have a noodle on mine. Fender Japan rather than USA, but a bona fide Fender.

NBD - The Bass Which Dares Not Speak Its Name
pete.young replied to Happy Jack's topic in Bass Guitars
Actually he said a few things, but he didn't say "that's fine, I've already got a nice one from @Thor " otherwise I might have been tempted to keep it, especially once I plugged it into the Walkabout Scout + LFSys combination! It came from Hobgoblin in Canterbury, not Cambridge, so snatched from under the very nose of @Beedster -
NBD: SGC Nanyo Bass Collection SB310 (I think)

Like this? It works very well, although the original preamp isn't great. -

That's excellent. I love the sound of the bass on the first track, and it sits perfectly in the mix.

@SimonK this might be one for you.

Vintage "Coaster" 5 string Jazz.. EMG's DO NOT fit.
pete.young replied to Nibody's topic in Repairs and Technical
There are at least 2 sizeds of 5-string Jazz pickups. Fender ones are wider and the bridge is wider than the neck. Bass Collection and Sadowsky are much shorter, and the same length 94mm. There are probably other sizes too. -
I have a Harley Benton Powerbank+ mark 2 which has one output that can be set to 18V. I don't know if it's linear or switching (how do you tell?) but there is no wall wart, it's a battery. It has enough power to drive my DHA VT1s.

Tube power stage vs Class-D (effective power)
pete.young replied to Paddy Morris's topic in Amps and Cabs
@agedhorse @Tech21NYC this is absolutely fascinating stuff. Thank you for sharing your memories and experiences. I wonder whether either of you came across Greg Burman? -
First mistake right there! Normally the answer from our drummer is "What's a key?" You quickly figured out it was a tone down, so E to D. If you'd played it in D, maybe used an octave down if you have one, and then thrown your bass at the guitarists after you'd played the song!

Very nice gig last Saturday with the blues band Ministry of Mojo in the Wagon and Horses, Newmarket. Very nice pub despite it being Greene King, small but enthusiastic crowd with plenty of dancing. We were very short of space so I elected to leave the double bass in the car and did the whole gig on my Epiphone Century bass, a first time, it sounded great. Shoes: like dead pigs noses.

Yeah, I've had this with my BBNE2.
