Indeed...... and, hang on to those original Wal's.
I was very lucky to be able to get Pete himself to re-fret & re-finish the neck of my Wal (bought new by me in 1987!) in March of last year & he was far from well then... And what a great old boy - he signed the neck for me, complete with a little 'fish' icon. I hadn't asked, or expected him to - so it was a nice surprise to see it when I got the neck back. I suppose that adds to the value of the bass - NOT that I'll ever be selling it! And so great to hear that the Wal name will live on!

The Japanese are famous for their love of collecting stuff... Check out this guy's bass collection: http://homepage3.nifty.com/JACK-BASS/basscollection.htm

Yeah - they've definitely de-badged all of his Ampeg gear since the previous tour.... Probably the usual story of him/or the band getting paid to endorse an amp that he never actually uses or likes. And that goes on a lot more than people realise... So it's goodbye to Warwick & modern amps - & hello lovely old pre-CBS Precision & Ampeg valve gear. Here's a picture from earlier in 2007 - same set-up but with badges intact + a glimpse of his pedals...
I hate it when listings have large font size like that it makes it a pain in the backside to read and I switch straight off!
LOL! +1 on that! It drives me nuts.
For sale is my 8 track reel to reel.I've hardly used it since I got it about 5 years ago.Its in generally good order and condition with one minor snag-one channel on the second playback head doesent work but the rest function fine. This does not affect the playback or recording of the main record/playback head.It comes with connection leads, open reel and one reel of ampex tape. £275. Thanks for looking Cheers Just
That brings back some memories....! Have a bump as these are fantastic machines - 8 tracks on 1/2" you can't beat it - & built so much better than the Fostex stuff.
I had a similar USA bass experience experience with a far stronger case. He'll get nowehere through law (I sought advice) and I doubt through coersion. More importantly, I doubt he's doing his mental health a whole lot of good dragging this out for the six months or so he's been pursuing it. He's stil got a 74 Jazz, he should let it go. Chris
Wise words Chris...
I've often wondered how difficult it would be to find those pots from different sources. My understanding of Fender (as in Leo) was that he always tried to use off-the-shelf parts, so I would assume the pots he chose to use were pots that were available for other purposes. If that's the case, then they must be floating around somewhere.
How difficult? Very difficult, if not impossible to find ORIGINAL parts for a 'stack knob' Jazz controls. The stack knobs, stack pots & control plate were only used on the very earliest Jazz basses for less than 2 years - they weren't used on other Fenders. It's not like looking for the pots for a Precison from the early 60's (and this will be why Leo stopped using stack knobs on the Jazz - because he always preferred to use cheaper inter-changeable parts where possible). That's why a complete set can command that sort of price (& that was the final price after a huge number of bids & bidders) because they are so incredibly rare. Unless anyone here can find some for me? So I've sourced exact re-issue replacements parts, even including hand-made wax/paper caps & vintage wiring, that will be identical to the originals...
Are you keeping track of the cost Jim?
There isn't 'a budget' for the restoration - whatever it costs to get it done right. The only thing I baulked at buying was an original set of stack knobs & pots (the only original part I'm missing) - they went for $2,500 on eBay. That was just too much!!
Someone here (99ster?) got a really nice 66 Jazz cheap off evil - probably cos most potential bidders thought it was a scam.
A 1960 Jazz actually... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=1615 It was a calculated gamble... But it's taken a huge amount of work & effort & expense to get it restored faithfully! And it's not finished yet.
Yep. Don't try to play it.... you'll sound terrible! Just listen.... to, Dumpstaphunk, Jon Cleary, John Mooney, Galactic, Papa Grows Funk, The Meters, The Funky Meters, the Neville Brothers and the rest. But check out www.dumpstaphunk.com if you want to make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck!!!!
I've seen Tony Hall from Dumpstaphunk play live twice with Emmylou Harris (she was mind blowing) - & he was so brilliant it was terrifiying. On one number he was playing a beautiful & complex bass part, whilst singing perfect harmonies, & playing bass pedals on the floor at the same time with his feet. F*** me!
Looks like someone is sending out a warning. 74 Jazz bass for £3,993 on ebay but it's actually a warning to any potential purchasers of stuff from 2-Gnome-Attic Here
This has been going on for many months now - the seller is the biggest vintage guitar dealer on eBay - 'Tune O Matic' ('2-Gnome-Attic' - get it?) http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/tune_o_matic He does actually have a very good reputation, his stuff is always good - he's sold some absolutely incredible vintage basses - but always for v.high BIN prices. And he sells a lot of rare parts - again for very high BIN prices. But something obviously went very wrong here...!!! And the buyer just won't let it lie...
Quite fancy getting a bass that is the same age as me - is that daft?
No not daft at all - just f***ing expensive when you get to be over 40 like me! -
Gentlemen, I am going to do this for the team. I am going to see the bass in person. I am taking with me 1. A Fender serial number ID chart (of no use whatsoever in this case I imagine) 2. £4.50 cash in case I decide to buy it 3. Several bodyguards in case the sellet likes the look of me I'll report back. If I get back.... Chris
Beedster - you are a true superstar!
