3.
Cool stuff indeed... Anyone remember this from around the same time as ACR?
That's the same video I linked to at the start of this post... ACR live in 1985 on The Tube.
4. These boys were tearing it up before a lot of you young 'uns were even born. One of the great UK underground funk bands. This live clip is from 1985-86. I must have watched this 1000 times on VHS back in the 80s - God bless YouTube! And if your a MM fan you'll be loving this big time... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_8-ijfZA2w Enjoy.
5. Fair play to the guy - I sent him a message telling him it was definitely not a 62-63 P bass & he has changed the listing... And it's probably not a bad 70's P bass - just needs a bit of work to get it back to how it should be - get the holes for the active stuff filled, replace all that nasty gold hardware...
6. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FENDER-PRECISION-BAS...1QQcmdZViewItem I could write a huge list of reasons why this isn't a "An EXCEPTIONALLY RARE" 1962 Precision - but helpfully he's added the 6 digit serial number (701503) for his butchered 1976 Precision all over the listing. Whoooops.
7.
Can anyone spare £3.5k...................I was born in '68 and this is my fav colour combo. Pretty please!!! http://cgi.ebay.it/1968-Fender-Jazz-Bass-O...1QQcmdZViewItem
Mmmm... Nice! But IMHO that's way too much to ask for a re-finished '68 Jazz.
8. and.... Bump!
9.
About the specs or about the snags? The specs: it was supposed to be a Burgundy Skyline Decade. Looked nice. The snags: Steve's no longer a Lakland dealer for whatever reason and it's unlikely you'll be able to get one if you've not ordered it already.
Or.... you could order a 'Decade' to your own spec from Lakland. I was quoted $2,500 (+ shipping & import duty of course) - with a 7 month wait(!) when I contacted Lakland direct. But I don't know what the deal was that Dudepit had struck with Lakland for a bulk order of the same specced bass??
10.
Do you think the pics are detailed enough though
His photography is absolutely fantastic - I enjoy looking at his listings for that alone!
11. Thanks for all the great comments guys - they're much appreciated!
12.
show that to the guy who sold it you and he'd probably have a heart attack.
I was considering it - as I do still have his email address... but you might be right!
13.
That is brilliant mate, thank you!!
I would avoid using that lot - I had a bad experience with them... This guy that advertises on eBay is really good: http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZbrauskoh

15. Following on from the Build Diary thread - here she is.... A restored 1960 Fender Jazz bass. Brought back to life after being abused, neglected and bunged on eBay. The serial number of 49940 indicates that it must have been one of the very first Jazz basses made. Having the serial number at the bottom of the neck plate is pretty rare – apparently this only happened during ‘59-60 (the famous Entwistle blonde Jazz has its serial number in this position too – though that serial is higher – it’s No. 51038). The neck date is July 1960. John from Bravewood told me that the Fender sales records show that the first jazzes were ordered around March 1960, but there's very little evidence of actual basses delivered before August 1960... A big thanks to the top man Mr Andy Viccars for all his hard work, skill and dedication:
16.
Whoa, that looks stonking. You must be like a dog with two whatsits. I'm intrigued by the 'router hump'-I'd like to see a pic of that when you get round to it.
From what I understand, the 'router hump' was a feature of most old Fenders (both guitars & basses) - certainly up to the mid 60's, though I'm not sure exactly what year it stopped appearing. I have a '66 Precision with a 'router hump', and have owned a '69 Precision without. It was caused by a routing machine at the Fender plant that was unable to complete a smooth curve on the tight curve on the lower horn of the body. This 'feature' stopped appearing when a new routing machine was installed at the plant - sometime in the late 60's. I have heard it said that sometimes it was smoothed out by hand - but personally, I wouldn't buy a 60's Fender without it. That said, some of the better custom body makers add it as a feature on re-issue guitar & bass bodies. This is a close-up of the 'router hump' on my '66 Precision: And on the 1960 Jazz:
17. The light was really poor today & I didn't have much time... ...but here's a quick taster. I'll do a full set in the 'Bass Porn' section soon.
18. She's ready!!! First set of pictures on Saturday...
19. SONY MDR-7509HD High Def Studio Monitor Headphones Been lusting after some for a while - but at around £200 in the UK was put off by the price.... Just got some from the US - brand new for $160 on eBay! They are incredible - I didn't know headphones could sound this good! If you want to give your ears a serious treat - these are the kiddies. And the build quality is very very good - serious pro kit.
20. I've recently acquired a rather lovely original 1967 Gibson EB-2 - which came with the original Gibson case which is very cool, BUT is about as much use as a wet cardboard box for protecting the bass. As this is a vintage semi-acoustic - it is obvioulsy quite a worry that it could sustain some very serious damage if the case got a big impact... So ideally I'd love to find something like a Hiscox case - that can take some serious abuse - with the bass safe inside. But I'm having no luck at all finding something to fit it. My last resort would be to get a custom filght case made - not just because of the cost - but also the weight burden that comes with a full flight case... Any ideas/suggestions please???? Thanks!
21. Hi Si, Thanks for sorting out the MacBook for JC... Sibob is a top geezer - highly recommended!
22. Bump before it goes on the bay... Now £35 posted.
23. There's a rash of these scams now on eBay - all using the same pictures from a fabulous genuine 1965 P Bass that sold very recently for $12K. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=7069 Which obviously got the scammers all excited...
24.
I'm pretty convinced that this is more a 'build diary' now..... Any objections to going there?
Fine by me!
