Hi How's this going?
The body has been painted (black) & the neck has been refretted, I've sourced an original all celluloid tshell pickguard from the US (you really don't want to know what that cost ) - so all the parts are now correct apart from the controls which are perfect reproductions. A set of original stack knobs did appear on eBay - & sold for $2,500! I just wasn't prepared to pay that much - when the pots would probably have been shagged anyway. All that is holding things up is the lack of just the right type of nitrocellulose lacquer (there's no point cutting corners now after all the effort that's gone into restoring this correctly) - the importer is waiting for it to be shipped by sea from the US (they can't ship flammables by air). Unless anyone here has any Behlen 'Master' Nitrocellulose Stringed Instrument Lacquer going spare??? That 'might' finally be here in 2 weeks (been waiting for months) - then there will be a month wait for the lacquer to dry...!! Yep. It's torture....

Yeah - that's the one, absolutely beautiful - some guy in France bought it for a lot of money... So this a pretty poor attempt at yet another scam.
So, why not just let it go? Well, this is why ... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...ost&p=16641 and there is just a ghost of a chance that he really is selling a 57 p bass ...
Sorry - I think that was such a stupendous, once only, never-to-be-repeated "bargain of a life time" - that it used up not only all my 'points' - but everyone else's as well! And saying that - it has taken a HUGE amount of time, effort & expense to get it restored back to how it should be - & it's still not finished!

Top geezer! Did a very smooth & easy deal with Nico for a Kern pre-amp that was EXACTLY as described, & set-up ready to demo (nice Alembic as well!). Highly recommended - one of the good guys!

99ster replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
It all points to it being a 1976 model, and the colour could well be original.
Yes - you could be right Paul - Fender did indeed do a 'Black Sparkle' finish in the 1990's... But I don't think this was available in the 70's??? -

'67 Jazz - possible stealth auction?
99ster replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Well it sure isn't a 1967 Jazz! A refinished 1975 Jazz maybe... Still it is potentially a nice bass - though it would need another refin unless glitter is your thing!! -

Someone's made a great job of 'ageing' this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-51-Precision-...1QQcmdZViewItem Not.
someone suggested the tape on the headstock may upset Warwick? I'm pretty certain he no longer has no connection with Warwick, I can check as I do have regular contact with Mr Norton, but I think it's safe to say, that is way back in the day! T
I'd say SJA's theory sounds like a plausible one... though it would make Mr Zender look like he's doing a 'toys out of the pram' stunt.

On the BBC 'Electric Proms' gig (currently on the BBC interactive loop) he even had black tape covering the Fender logo on the headstock of his vintage Precision. Never seen that before for any bass player on TV - I can only guess that he he must be worried about upsetting a bass sponsor... Could Warwick(???) really get upset about that???
When I joined BassWorld as it was then everyone was using EBS gear, which was reassuring because I had just ponied up lots for an EBS rig. Now everyone is using Markbass but am I bovvered. Some things are always in fashion - Fender and Ampeg. If you are bothered about fashion, trends, fads whatever, Fender and Ampeg.
Other stuff can come and go but... It always has, & it always will still come back to those two - 4 string Fender basses and Ampeg valve amps. The foundation of it all. The basses and amps that are used on innumerable great records & in concert, by the greatest bass players, for the best part of 50 years.
I've got an award-winning SE Electronics 2200A which I might consider letting go. I bought it earlier this year with ambitions of doing lots of home recording, then got a good band going and don't have the time! It's only been used a few times and sounds crisp and clear. Comes with hard case and really good quality shockmount. Read more here and if you like the look of it, make me an offer. It's as new, having rarely been out of the box.
These are ridiculously good for the money (I paid more for just a shock mount for my Neumann!). I've got fantastic results from one of these... Highly recommended.

If you use a compressor - try playing without it. Learn how to control the dynamics of your bass with your fingers, not by using a gadget to do the hard work for you & you'll become a much better player.
pics in the Killing Joke blog- http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...07D591C30201019 below the pic of him with a warwick, looks like a Stingray cutlass (graphite neck) I think it's the same one he's using in the video of prong's "snap your fingers snap your neck".
Good article here on his gear... http://www.gearwire.com/paul-raven-killing...stry-prong.html I remember him using Status & Trace gear for one tour - he's used loads of stuff over the years - was using Warwick amps & Schecter basses for the last Killing Joke tour he did (before he left the band that is).

I've emailed the BBC site to complain - as I'm sure it would upset me if I was one of his family. And 'Requiem' was most definitely Youth playing bass. They could have made a bit more of an effort to get it right! UPDATE: Well fair play to the BBC - they've taken down the wrong picture since I emailed them (I expect other people did as well).
IS this for real? Because Its a VERY VERY Killing Joke thing to do! I had a right session on KJ last night, great Bassist..Live like Kings and Queens....
http://www.killingjoke.com/

My favourite memory of Raven is on the Night Time tour ('85 or '86) - some geeza got on stage at the Oxford Poly gig & was charging around like a madman. Got too near to Raven & bang - he dropped him with one punch - without missing a note of his bassline. Class. A proper old school bass playing hard man.
