Me want! Here comes the GAS again....
 2.
That's another world, Jim. beautiful. I'm cautious about semis after trying a TAB 66 (whichever is full-scale) and I didn't really appreciate the tone. It's certainly something I'll keep looking into, though, as I love the styling and the tone of the '60s records. Perhaps something with a couple of darkstars - What did Jefferson Airplane's bassist play?
Jack Casady? Probably best known for playing a Guild Starfire...

 4.
last bump - i'll put the reserve on ebay at 1500...
Hi Chris, Hope the sale goes well on eBay for you mate... I would have loved to buy your lovely Hiwatt rig off you (as would a fair few others on here as well I don't doubt) - but it's such a big b*****d to store & transport that there's only gonna be a certain people that have the space & vehicle available. :/ But I'm sure you'll have a better chance of finding them on eBay... All the best Jim
 5.
I just like the look. Not the antigua one, I've seen some effing awesome blue ones. I wouldn't ever spend that much on a bass, even if I had 2 G's to spare. I'm sure they are horrible, they were given away as an incentive to join the US army and go to 'Nam. It was that or a radio. True story. That red Hofner's really nice, except it's got sh*tty toy guitar tuners on it. Actually I'd rather have a sunburst Rivoli.
Yeah - Rivoli's are cool. The guy out of The Raconteurs used one for the LP - love that tone...
 6.
I bought a near mint condition 66' Fender Coronado 6 string for $675. That's £325. It's even got the original case. This is overpriced for one of Fenders least desirable guitars!
+1 That's is absolutely crazy money for a Coronado.... If you really must have one - for goodness sake don't spend that much! The reason you rarely see these for sale (& when they are sold it's for relatively very low prices for vintage Fenders) - is because they were basically rubbish! Interesting to a Fender collector when you can pick one up for a few hundred like Lawrie did - but that's about it.
 7. Hi Matt, To date a vintage Fender precisely is difficult - you need a combination of the serial number, neck date code, neck pocket date, pot manufacturer's code & then that has to be compared to a whole number of details to do with the construction and parts used... That serial number is pretty definitely from 1962 - but as WOT says you would really also need to look at the neck butt date - which would be either written in pencil (M-YY) up to March '62, or from March '62 onwards as an ink date stamp in the format '5' (for Precision) XXX 'Month' XX 'Year' 'C' (neck width - most likely a C for an early 60's P bass). But if, as you say, this guy has the original receipt from when it was bought new then that should give a pretty accurate way of dating it! If you can post a complete set of decent quality pictures then we can give you a pretty accurate dating... Value? It will have been slightly de-valued to a collector by being re-fretted, but not by much if this was done properly using the correct gauge of fret-wire. An early 60's Precision (from 1959 to 1963) are THE most sought after and valuable of all Precision basses - and it will be worth many thousands...how many depends of its condition. James Jamerson used a 1962 sunburst Precision - that should tell you all you need to know about how highly these are regarded! We'd all love to see pictures of it anyway - just to have a drool - so please post some if you can!
 8.
Thanks ! Ever since I heard that Wal-sound of Dean Garcia on "This is the House" by Eurythmics and Mick Karn's basslines I knew these British basses were the ultimate instruments for me.
Yep - you just gotta have a Wal! Mine will have been with me 21 years this year... & it will be coming to the grave with me!

Sells some lovely basses...
 10.
Is this a good /fair price for this bass. I am aware they exist but have never seen one up for sale. Am going to see about PX-ing some gear if it seems OK. eBay link
If you really do want it you'd be much better off doing a cash deal. That shop are dealers of a similar ilk to 'Vintage & Rare' (though their prices are maybe not quite as insanely high) - which means they will really only be interested in PX-ing for other vintage/collectable guitars & even then they'll still give you a rubbish deal. Once you ask about doing a PX then they're 'in control' of the deal - that's not what you want with dealers. With cash you're in control & can squeeze them on price as hard as you like... As for how good this is? I'm sure it is a lovely bass - but it's still only a pretend vintage bass... IMHO to me that's £2K I could put towards buying a REAL 1962 Precision - which is a truly great bass, if not one of the best ever made. In fact you could get a nice refin 1962 Precision for not much more...
 11. It's enough to make a grown man cry... How to ruin the look of a very special vintage bass. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1963-Fender-Precisio...1QQcmdZViewItem "the present finish is not professional" No - surely not??? The 'super cock' sticker kind of says it all for me...
 12. I've been looking for a case for a Gibson EB2 - the body is basically the same size as a 335... but it obviously has a slightly longer neck. Can you measure the total length of the inside of the case for me plz? I may be interested if it has that extra bit of space. Thanks!
 13.
Nice bass, 99ster. It's actually got a feature that maybe you could she some light on. As you (and the auction) have said, it's 67-8. I notice it's got the round tuners on it, which are correct for the period. However, in my (limited!) experience, I've noticed that the round tuners seem to only appear on 1966 Jazz basses, while they seem more prevalent on Precisions and Telecasters for the years '67 and '68. Have I observed this correctly, or have I just encountered an unusual selection of instruments?
From what I've seen & read the 'paddle' tuners first appeared in 1966 & were used on Fender basses until 1969 at least. I've seen them on lots of Jazzes from that period, Mustang basses (I have a 66 Mustang with paddle tuners) & MkI Tele basses - but I don't think I've ever personally come across a Precision with Paddle tuners (or even seen any pictures) - I think they're very rare. But the last years of the 60's were an odd time for Fender basses - relatively few were made (not sure why?) & it was very much a period of transition - with new 70's parts & features mixing with stuff more often associated with 60's Fenders...

 15.
Weekend Bump
Why don't you just put this on eBay??? I had Guild bass for sale on here for some time - & had no takers on Basschat so gave up continually bumping it. Then it sold straight away BIN when I listed it on the bay. A lot of potential 'bass buyers' do visit this site - but a hell of a lot more visit eBay....
 16.
Definately latish 66. I had a 66 with blocks. Steve
Late to Mid 1966 for blocks. Which is why there are also 1966 Jazz basses with 'bound & dot' necks - from earlier in the year...
 17.
Well I won't be shedding any tears. Sounds harsh, but the few times I went in there I swore I'd never go back. The service wasn't just indifferent, it was bordering on being rude. As has already been mentioned - if their website doesn't improve pretty sharpish - they'll be finished, which can only be a good thing for all the shops/websites who do make the extra effort for their customers Pluck
+1 Exactly the experience I always had with them. And their website is rubbish - so good riddance as far as I'm concerned.
Looks like I'll have to revise my plans... the seller on German ebay removed his from sale... apparently he'd forgotten to set a reserve, now that all the bids have been removed, you can see the BIN. He was after more than £1000, which is a lot for a second hand Japanese Fender.
Yeah - you can get a Fender Custom Shop one new for around £1,500 from Thomann
 19.
That price is just taking the piss
Believe it or not - that's actually a pretty good price for such a nice '61 Jazz... goodness only knows what it would be sold for from a dealer.
 20.
Well mine came broken The twist tighteners were split. But the guy had included two replacements So that's OK then.
That's fair enough. And he must have shipped it quick promptly then...which is cool.

 23.
I actually got one of the separate buster heads myself when I was over there last time for me to come back to(this time). It is literally the same amp but separate. I think the combo is perfect for recording and practice as it's so small and angled directly to your face. You can plug the speaker outputs of your amp into an 810 to get an idea of what it would sound like - I'd like to get one of your type when I get back over there, but they are actually harder to get hold of!
Thanks for the extra info Chris - very interesting. Yes - trying the Buster with an 8x10 is definitely on my list of things to do this year!
 24.
Oh! How do I find/get a coupon?
There's are great big adverts for it all over eBay - it popped up on eBay when I went to pay via PayPal... You just have to put the code in the 'voucher' panel when you get to the final page on PayPal - it's 'Cheers1' More info here.
 25.
Thanks mate -hows that buster treating ya?
I gotta lotta love for it dude - everyone who hears it goes 'slack-jawed'. The tone is gorgeous... I'd love to get hold of the separate head one day - but I've never seen one in the UK (I don't think they even brought them into the country).
