I tried a few Bergantino cabs at Music Live last year. They sound utterly fantastic... and aren't that badly priced. Our very own poptart is the UK dealer for them - check them out here: http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/
Yes - definitely contact Mark at http://www.bassdirect.co.uk - he's got a proper demo facility for Bergantino & is a top guy...

Am I doing something stooopid.........? I've started a number of posts but then I don't get any email notification of replies to the post... (yes - I've made sure to tick the relevant box!) I would have thought that by default - the user who started a post would get immediate email notification of a reply, unless they opted out. Thanks!
Ouch! Hope you are okay now? So far I've been extremely lucky and not received any horrible injuries, but then I don't do the extreme downhill stuff. A few nasty cuts and bruises are the worst I've had.... I probably don't ride hard enough!!
Took a year to get over it & it will never really be right again. As is often the way - I wasn't going particularly fast, or doing anything mad when it happened. I've done stuff that is a 100 times more risky like 'Porcupine Rim' in Moab & a single track ride in Durango along the edge of a sheer drop that was instant death if it had gone wrong - but your brain is hyped up & super-concentrating when you're doing really risky things. Accidents are much more likely when you've 'switched off' on routes that you know really well...
ok. firstly i need to replace the driver in my ampeg svt-15en classic 15" cab. i don't know if i am being really dumb but i can't find a way into the cab to get access to the speaker, my old ashdown grill unsrewed, and my marshall guitar cab back comes off, but the ampeg cab seams to be a sealed unit with no visible joins or screws? is it atall possible? then secondly, the cab is rated at 200watts at 8ohms. with my head being rated at 350watts at 4ohms and 250watts at 8ohms. If i bought a 15" 400w at 4ohms driver would this work ok with the amp? (i'm not planning to add any more cabs, I understand that two 8ohms cabs would equal 4ohms) your help is much appreciated. Jim p.s. If it is a specialist job, can anybody reccomend any good services centres in the oxfordshire area?
http://www.stevesamps.co.uk/ A bit of a journey from Oxfordshire, but Steve is excellent. Highly recommended.
I never thought I'd be faced with parting with this bass, because I know that I will probably never be able to replace it. Unfortunately I need to raise some money to purchase a new mountain bike, and these days I seem to get more from my mountain biking than my music (never thought I'd say that either!).
Mmmm... That is a beautiful thing. So tempting... I do know how addictive mountain biking can be - I've been on trips all around the world. But I've had to calm down a fair bit since my last big crash resulted in 2 operations & this bit of metalwork getting screwed into my collar bone (due to a complete dislocation of my right arm): And yes - that did hurt rather a lot.
You can get them from any specsavers with a hearing centre.
+1 That's where I got my custom moulded ones from.

Here's another massive thumbs up for the great work done by OBBM. Dave has just provided me with a large quantity of very highly quality professional spec cables for my studio - they are fantastic & were supplied at a very reasonable price. And he's had to put up with me changing my mind about what I needed a dozen times! And he gave me some great advice on multicore... Need great cables? Go see OBBM - you'd be bloody daft to do anything else!!! VERY highly recommended.

As the old joke goes: Q: What do you call a guitarist (bassist, drummer, singer, etc) without a girlfriend? A: Homeless. I know a bass player in a huge band - and I mean internationally very famous... But because he's not part of the publishing deal he only makes any serious money when they tour. He could hardly be called poor - but I was astonished when I found out he little money he makes relative to the fame of the band. And another friend from a pretty well known band in the 80's/90's (major label deals - 10 LPs, toured the world) - who really does struggle to make ends meet... They had a fantastic studio built for them - which they got to keep when they were dropped by a major label. They were forced to sell it for an absolute pittance a few years later - as they were all broke & were desperate for the cash. Some of you may have seen this piece before by Steve Albini (Nirvana producer): http://www.mercenary.com/probwitmusby.html Probably best not to read it if you're young & dreaming of being 'signed' & becoming rich & famous. Being a 'pro' can very often be a very hard career choice - and my feeling is that it's not going to get any easier...

Thanks for all the suggestions - much appreciated!
Why not look at some of the drum hardware cases, a lot of those have wheels and as someone pointed out its gonna be pretty heavey with 10 mic stand in.
Yes - I had already thought of that & there are loads of options on Thomann - though I don't want to spend too much as it will only get used very infrequently. If I was gigging with it 3 times a week I'd have flight case on wheels & roadies to hump it!
I use a Thomann one but it only holds 6 stands. Weighs a ton when full mind so good luck lugging 10 around if you find a suitable bag. Pete.
Hi Pete, Thomann - of course! I forgot about them - thanks for the reply! The 7 small stands - are all aluminium & much lighter than a standard full-size mic stand - so it should be manageable (especially for 2 people). This looks like a contender: http://www.thomann.de/gb/millenium_hwb44_hardware_bag.htm Cheers Jim

Been looking for a big bag/holdall to put about 10 microphone stands in (7 of them are the small/short ones you use for mics for amps & snare drums). Any ideas / suggestions would be most appreciated! Thanks.

Where are all the ambitious, talented bassists?
I thought that. If I lived in Oxford I wouldn't know whether to give him a ring or leave town good job I don't live in Oxford. And I'm too old :brow:
Yep - unfortunately the Oxford 'scene' is full of meaningless bands like this who are always just about to 'get signed'. It's the whole 'Coldplay' thing that gives the game away I'm afraid. I had to Google for Guy Berryman as I had no clue who he was... sure he's competent enough in the limited role he has in Coldplay - but to put him in a list of greats along with JPJ, McCartney & Entwistle as though he was their equal is comical at best. And thinking that you're actually gonna be signed by a major label by trying to be yet another (yawn) Coldplay clone-band....? Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. -
That's great info there 99ster. I have to say, that is one if not THE one bass that I would love to own. Now, fingers crossed for tomorrow's lottery....
Yes - that one's a beauty for sure... Apparently CAR was also Leo's favourite Fender colour. And I would agree with Lawrie - I'd say that finish & wear are original.
Whats with the silver undercoat on red fenders? I've got a red MIM jazz with a light chip in it, and it was silver, weird eh?
Candy Apple Red (metallic) finish had a metallic base coat applied first. This is followed by a translucent colour coat, and finally by a clear coat. Fender typically used a white primer under the metallic basecoat to limit the amount of basecoat needed. The base coat used by Fender was usually silver until 1965/1966, and gold starting some time in 1966. The final finish looks slightly different depending on the color of the basecoat. Gold basecoat makes the CAR look more maroon and turns brownish-red with age. Silver is the much cooler basecoat as the color is more red than maroon and ages better... It looks like your MIM jazz was painted in a similar way...
How much did you pay for it? There is one on ebay right now but it is already $130 and has 5 hours left
£82 BIN (inc £12 postage - it's a very big/heavy book!!) - so that does around about the right sort of price as it's unavailable elsewhere... But they're only $100 to pre-order (don't know about the shipping - would be a fair bit I suspect).
-
Sold out until April!!!! Daaah
I actually got mine off eBay - so maybe worth looking on there... Or get your pre-order now for April (not that long to wait really) as I bet they'll sell out pretty quick.
I was given it for an Xmas pressie - it's fantastic isn't it? Really well put together.
Wow - that was a great Xmas pressie! Yeah - I'm absolutely blown away by it - and I don't think it's at all expensive considering how much work must have gone into it. A wonderful thing to behold!
