And one of the reasons why I personally find them less desirable than sunburst as the extra layer of paint is not good for the tone. The blonde ash Jazzes are the ultimate - very thin finish with a fantastic look as well. But you're absolutely right - as an investment piece this would certainly be a good buy for someone. God only knows what a guitar like this would be worth in another 10 or 20 years...

Certainly THE ultimate Jazz bass. So that price for a '61 (without stack knobs - & so less desirable) is pretty close to its very top price.

So I would think that you would have much the same problem with a Geddy Lee model. So I wouldn't buy an ashtray as I think you'd be disappointed...
