1.
Is graphite a form of plastic then?
When they call it a 'graphite' neck they mean a plastic/carbon weave composite neck. This is basically a plastic neck with carbon fibre woven into the plastic during the moulding process to make it very stiff/strong. It doesn't matter how a manufacturer tries to dress-up the description by calling it 'graphite' - bottom line is it's a plastic neck.
 2.
This guy may well be genuine, but would YOU buy this from him ?
I wonder why he'd got no bids???
 3. It's a Status Vintage GP - with 'GP' being Guy Pratt: http://www.status-graphite.com/ (can't add a direct link easily as the awful Status site uses frame sets - but there's info about the whole range there) They're about £1,500 new... Nice looking bass - but I just can't get my head around the whole plastic neck thing.
 4. And while we're at it - let's have some love for this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrHezTLex2s and this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqK7Ck57nv0
 5.
Cool! Let's hope someone knows OG
Joseph "Lucky" Scott. That's the dude - he played with Curtis throughout the 1970's.
 6.
Does anyone know if the 70's reissue bound necks are any different in thickness/profile etc than regular Jazz necks, say from the 62 reissue? If so how much difference is there. Cheers Tony
I've not played either of the Jazz re-issues... but I can tell you that an original 70's bound neck is very different from an original 60's neck profile. An original 70's bound neck is a thicker, rounder profile - but slimmer at the nut. An original 60's neck profile is flatter, smoother & 'feels' slightly fatter at the nut (though I may have to measure it to see if it really is). The very early 60's ones are a bit different again... So I would guess that the re-issue would follow the same format...? But I may be quite wrong!

 11.
Sorry to add this, but our guitarist turned up to a rehearsal a few months looking like death warmed up and said that the guitarist in his old band had died from an electric shock while rehearsing. Much as I do not wish to undermine the expertise of the chaps above, trial and error in such a situation clearly runs the risk of error. I would get someone in who knows what they're doing to check out your kit. The problem is probably simple, however, a simple electrical problem can become a complex and dangerous one when an inexperienced person starts trying to solve/fix it Chris
It happens. A good few years ago I remember a young kid getting killed onstage at the 'Green Dragon' in Stratford-upon-Avon (don't know if that's still a music venue?) - a total nightmare. I think his mum started a campaign to try & get all the venues to install circuit breakers, etc. Wise words Chris. Electricity is not to be trifled with.

 16.
Is this still available? Chris
Hi Chris, There's a cheque in the post to me from 'Thornybank'... Sorry I should have updated the post to say this...I will do now. All the best Jim
 17.
A lot of that body relic'ing is awful...
I'm afraid I can only agree with you about that... I really like some of the stuff he does (his restorations are great) - but his 'relic'ing' of the bodies in particular is a complete disaster. Old guitars just do NOT look like that! That looks nothing like genuine playing/handling wear. It just looks daft.
 18. 1979 Guild B-301 - all black Time to thin out the herd. I love this one - but it just doesn't get played enough (too many basses to play at once!) - which is a shame. Bought from 'MacDaddy' a few months ago. ...it’s well mojo’d for sure – with plenty of play wear & dinks in the body & neck – but plays well, sounds great (lot of mid-range grunt) & looks as cool as F**K (quite possibly the coolest looking 'rock n roll' bass there is). Complete with hard case (not original) & new set of DR strings. £450 - and any interesting trades always welcome! *** NOW SOLD ***
 19. Really interesting! Many thanks for posting this link! I'm in the process of restoring an original 1960 Fender Jazz bass at the moment - so info like this is great to get hold of.
 20. I have to agree - this one just smells bad. The 'feedback' is just bizarre! Scammer? For sure.

 23.
That £160 includes the price of the filters, which from what I recall of the spare filter prices is about half of the total cost. Shooting ear protection is much simpler, aiming to block as much sound as possible instead of evenly filtering it by a fixed amount. One boutique effects pedal or good hearing for the rest of your life? Alex
Yes - you can buy different interchangeable filters - so you can change from a '15' for rehearsals - to a 20 (or 25) when playing live. Which was what I've been advised to do - & these proper filters alone are around £70-ish. Sorry - I just can't understand why anyone in their right mind would be looking for a 'budget' option for this!!!
