1. @bass_dinger It’s a great idea to get involved with these groups. I fell into playing for loads of amateur dramatic groups all over Essex and East London whilst I was at college and it was fantastic experience. As @harukimentioned earlier it’s brilliant for improving your sight-reading and you’ll get to play a huge variety of music in a multitude of styles. Also a great way to meet other musicians and build up some contacts. I’d recommend it to anyone
2. They are lovely basses. Played one at The Bass Gallery a few weeks ago and was rather taken with it. GLWTS 👍
3. I’ve certainly had brand new instruments arrive perfectly set up from the factory that take a little while to settle down and then need a fresh set up after a week or two. There are a lot of factors that can affect the overall set up of a bass like temperature and humidity. I’d give the bass a couple more days to settle and give it a little tweak then see if it holds.
4. Very sorry to hear this Jack. I did once have an older student who sustained a very similar injury as a child (in fact I’m pretty sure it was the same finger). He’d had a skin graft and whilst he had very little feeling in that finger tip he was playing fine on it, even as a complete beginner. Wishing you a speedy recovery! 👊
5. It’s everywhere now sadly. I get one or two of them pretty much every time I list something 😐
6. I always report these offers on Reverb and they always get back to me pretty sharpish and block the fake accounts. I’ve found their support team really helpful over the years. Definitely worth reporting I reckon.
7. The DI on my CMD121P became unreliable a couple of years ago. Would be working fine one day then inexplicably drop out mid-gig the next. Investigated trying to get it fixed but most amp repairers won’t touch Markbass gear. Didn’t particularly fancy the faff of sending it up to the authorised repair place up in Sheffield so I just avoid the DI now and use a separate box at gigs; the amp has been brilliant apart from that and it’s probably done hundreds of shows with me by now so willing to put up with the slight inconvenience of the dodgy DI. If I do find myself playing up In Sheffield though I will drop by Real Electronics and see what they can do. Sounds like it’s not an uncommon issue…
8. Lovely bass 👌
9. What a great story. The bass looks fantastic. Congrats 👌
10. I’ve use various cables over the years and honestly I couldn’t tell a difference in sound. How long they last however is a very different story. As other people have said those Planet Waves cables never last long. The best ones I’ve found for me are Klotz; had the same few jack cables for years and they never go wrong 👍
11. I was literally doing just that. My JMJ bought from here arrived at lunchtime today. Such a lovely instrument. Enjoy your new bass @Folkesy
12. Bought a JMJ Mustang from Nick this week and super chuffed with it. Nick was really helpful and the bass was very well packed and delivery bang on time. Great bass and a lovely chap 👌
13. Sounds like octave and a nice biter fuzz to me. Lovely sound 👌
14. I’ve had a good few fuzz pedals over the years. You can get close to this with a Way Huge Swollen Pickle, but I would also have a look at 3 Leaf Audio’s Doom 2. That’s what I use now and it’s for very synthy tones like this 👍
15. That is stunning 👌
16. Hi there. I tried out a bunch of small amps for a little home practice amp including both the ones you mentioned and went for a Micromark 801 from Wunjo’s. I found the PJB a bit flat and lifeless-sounding compared to the Markbass which had a lovely open and natural tone. Have since used it on a few little upright bass jazz gigs when I’ve had to go on the tube too and it’s great. Love it with my p-bass; I’d definitely recommend one 👍
17.
EBS Multicomp for me,simple to use,3 different modes, works very well & sounds great.
+1 for the EBS Multicomp. I tried a stack of compressors before I picked this one. Use it mainly for evening out pick playing, especially when palm-muting. Sounds fat and lovely 👌
18. Roll up! Roll up! /Bump
19. Definitely worth talking to a luthier about changing the neck profile. Martin Peterson at the Gallery would be my first port of call. Also sometimes the Warwick bolt-on necks have overly thick fingerboards. Martin took a lot off the fingerboard of my old FNA Jazzman and regretted it with slimmer frets and suddenly the beck felt amazing. And was less bowed...
