Hello you beautiful people! Well i managed to rock on down to see Matt Garrison and his elite trio last night. My oh my...all i can say is 'amazing'...these guys are serious serious musicians. I was blown away, they really did kick ass. I'd listened to Garrison a bit before hand, but last night just showed me how little i knew about his abilities. He is the master of the bass! Great gig!!!

To be fair, 500 watts should be more than enough to cover my gigs, anything requiring more than that and i'm D.I'ing anyway. My Thunderfunk was 500 at 4 ohms, and the Ampeg is 300 at 4 (all valve though), so i don't think i'd need more than 500 at 8ohms!!! My concern would be getting a well rounded tone is all i think!!! Just the single cone and cab....hmmm!!! I see some state side companies offer an IP212 though...oooo tasty!

Interesting stuff guys thank you. Homer - how do you think they compare to the Aguilar's you had then? I did, and still do love the sound of them! They're wicked cabs! The cab that shouts out at me from the Berg's is the 2x15 really...but it's too heavy to consider...that, with my Ampeg would weigh more than i do!!!! So it's not really an option, nor a solution. And ideally, i want a 1 cab solution, not 2!!! But the 12" cabs aren't highly powered enough, nor the right ohmage to be ideal either!!! Which leads me to thinking that the IP112 with a warm valve pre-amp (maybe Ampeg), may well be an ideal solution??? Hhhhmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Hello you beautiful people, Just wondered if anyone has any views on the Ampeg pre-amps, in particular, the BSP Billy one. I'm considering a bit of a rig change and use an SVT II (non-pro) which absolutely kicks ass, i love the tone, so if i can get the pre-amps tone in a stand alone pre-amp, i'd be a happy chappy! Also, how much should i expect to pay for a BSP second hand, or the SVP-CL??? Any help would be wicked! Thanks Jamie

Hi people, Just wondered what people thought to the Bergantino cabs, both the powered and normal, non-powered versions? I'm currently using an Ampeg SVT II (1980's non-pro version) with a pair of Dr Bass cabs, an RX210 and RX1260. The Ampeg is the nicest sounding amp i've ever heard, it's exactly what i want, the warmth, and it's my first valve head, but the tone of the vavles is beautiful...but...it weighs half my body weight and i suffer from back problems!!! Also, i love the Dr Bass cabs, the 1260 in particular, it's a wicked cab. But thought i'd see what these Berg cabs are all about. Anyway, has anyone used the IP cab range and managed to get an ubber warm, valve like sound? I know you can use pre-amps etc, yes, valve pre-amps too...but my Ampeg is all valve, and all valve power is a joy to my ears...just not to my back!! Looking forward to hearing what you all have to say. Thanks Jamie

Hi people, I'm trying to hunt down a GWB105, not the cheapest GWB35 model, nor the top of the range GWB1 or current models, the mid range one that is no longer available. Does anyone know where there's one available? If so, can i ask that you please pm me the details, either UK based or overseas...i'd really appreciate it. Thanks Jamie
I think I used UPS both times for the cabs and can't remember how much it was but £100 does seem a lot for a bass. I seem to remember that I DID ship a bass to Portugal for bassaussie a couple of years ago and I think if I recall correctly it cost about £60 but I could be wrong. Incidentally he shipped one to me on a seperate occasion and took off the neck and sent two parcels which I think would be cheaper if its bolt on. I think I used parcelforce for the bass. EDIT: I shipped a cab in THIS country to Garbev and he recommended Citylink via http://www.parcel2go.com/ and they were a pretty decent price and it arrived safe and sound and they appear to ship to Europe as well. Steve
Thanks for that mate! I've heard of taking the neck off...not sure i fancy that! I'm not master luthier, i can hardly fit a screw without threading it, let alone take apart a bass...unless it were via destructive means Still...it's worth considering, thank you!
-
I've had quotes from Fedex and Parcelforce, both came up with the same prices! I think it's more of a mental thing at the moment...it's not like i'm shipping a cheap instrument...my basses are high end, and i don't like the risks attached to shipping them! I guess folks do it day in day out though! I guess i could always get in touch with a shop to send it on my behalf if needs be? I dunno!!! Keep the thoughts coming though please! Jamie
-
That's helpful stuff Steve, thanks! Who did you get them shipped through? All the quotes i've had have been in excess of £100...is that right?
-
Hi guys and gals, I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with shipping basses overseas? The reason i ask is that i have a few basses up for grabs and i've had some interest from a few guys in the EU...but i'm a bit sceptical about doing a transaction outside the UK. Has anyone got any thoughts about it? Many thanks Jamie
