Thanks for both of your replies guys! That's interesting stuff about the Crafters. I must admit, i prefer the look of the Ibanez, but it's not all about that i know!

As my post said, i was really looking peoples opinions and thoughts rather than simply alternatives...or at least alternatives with some explanitions as that will be useful information. J

The other thing that has occurred to me is where will i find a high C string for acoustic bass?
-
Hi guys, Kind of been toying with the idea of this for a while, but i'd like to get myself a 5 string acoustic bass that i can tune E-C for some jazz action! Now, i'm not looking to spend a stupid amount, so something like £300 is my ideal budget, but i'd consider others if they were worth it! So, my requirements are: 5 string E - C'able acoustic bass Shortest scale possible without lossing too much tone, preferably 34" Would need to have as low action as possible, or but good enough to get set-up well and what not! Sound half-decent Here's what i've spotted just now: Ibanez EWB205WNE-NT Crafter BA-580EQ Michael Kelly Club 5 Does anyone know of any others around my price range? And do any of you know anything about the above guitars? I'd rather have a decent low spec one rather that a shoddy high spec'd bass! Thanks in advance for your help and thoughts. Jam

Forgot to say that one other to mention are the Atelier Z's...they're wicked basses! I played Ari's a few years back, loads of bark, but weighed a tonne!!! He said he prefered it to Gwilym's Sadowsky Tokyo Jazz, although, i love them, much nicer in my opinion than the newer models...anyway, Ari's conclusion was that the Atelier sounded more 70's jazz like than the Tokyo!

If i may put a few words in! I've looked at Jazz basses a lot, and there's plenty of nice ones around! I've played a few Sadowsky's and Sei's, not played an Overwater yet, nor an Avella...but the one's that stood out to me the most are Mike Lull Jazz basses, they are awesome pieces of kit! Not only that, but brand new, from the UK supplier a 5 string passive one is £1300! That's an awesome price in my mind! Mind you, you might not want to spend that much. In which case the Sandbergs aren't too bad, although they're pick-ups and pre-amps don't really add to the 'traditional' theme! There's plenty of them about though, and there's a number of top-notch ones that i've not mentioned. But for me, the Lull's are a wicked instrument, i'd rather have a Lull than a Sadowsky, that's for sure!

Nice one mate! Where did you get this from? I've played a similar one, if not this one...depending on where you got it of course!

Just a quick one to say that www.fareastguitars.co.uk import the Jap non-export models, they always seem to look pretty tasty!
Very nice Jamie - im assuming from the shakky pics that the amp was blasting you in the face with RAW BASS POWER!!!!
Lol...i forgot to say that i'm not the best photographer!!! I took those after an 8 hour long session in the studio...the amp was on for that long and it didn't even so much as tease me with a hiccup, did me proud!! My hands on the other hand were ready to drop off, hence the shakes

Hello party people, It's about i got myself a new thread on here...the other one got lost many moons ago!!! First up, my beasty F Bass, yes, the one i keep thinking of selling and then not...well it's here still, so here's some viewage: Next, the beauty that is my Marleaux Constat 5 Fretless edition, this is a real mean machine...sounds awesome, feels awesome, looks awesome...just awesome: And as you can see, they're both sat in front of my rig, which consists of a monster of a head...an Ampeg SVT II, one of the early, non-pro models from about 1986. Previously owned by Beautiful South...hmm what what! It is quite simply, a monster, i love it! All the vintage valve goodness you'd expect, and then some, but tone galore and a nice smidge of growl...phwoah!!! I Love it!!! Not so keen on the hernia potential though...it's half my body weight The cabs that chuck out the beasty valve goodness...a pair of Dr.Bass RX cabs, an RX210, and an RX1260. So a 2x10 with a tweeter, and a 1x12, 1x6 with a tweeter. Love them, especially the RX1260...it is the most awesome cab i've heard!!! So there we have it...my rig of doom a weapons of choice! Feel free to comment away, ask any questions or express your emotions!!! Agent Bassjamm...over and out...kkkk

Hi guys, Just thought i'd see if there's any interest for my fretless Marleaux...i love it, but i don't play it all that much at the moment and i've seen some tasty basses that i fancy...however i may withdraw this! I bought it new about a year ago...i'd be looking for £1295. Bartolini pickups, marleaux 3 band eq, passive/active switch, lined fingerboard, excellent condition. Thanks Jamie
