1. His thunderbirds look the canine's testicles! On a not entirely unrelated note, do nordstrand make any non fugly pickups?
2. Each to their own, Charic. I loved that blue one, but I've had a lusting for a maple fretboarded bass for a long long while, and IMO birdseye maple is the cream of the crop when it comes to maple! Just something a bit different, and it plays just as beautifully as my old one.
3.
Our shop recently had a sale whereby we sold off masses of Ashdown ex-demo gear. And we currently have 10% off Tanglewaters. But I'm not allowed to mention it.
10% off tanglewaters? now that has me interested! but not allowed to mention it why, question mark / on the gfs stupid finnish keyboard, none of the keys make sense
4.
IMO it's been going steadily downhill ever since they moved from Wapping. My feeling is that they've gone on-line only now as it makes it harder for people to turn up in person to complain.
Having been to their currently place, they're online only because they're not paying for rental for a space that's large enough to allow for walls of guitars and amps, along with the power usage etc. They are just running three blokes in an office, i.e. three PCs and a kettle. All the gear is in boxes below, there isn't the space for playing!
5.
If this is supposed to be list of GOOD on-line shops you will probably need to take Bass Centre out of there.
Always been friendly and decently priced for repairs in my book.
6. Lovely, Linus, congrats. :-) Great price too.
7. Aye I saw those tc deals, that was pretty good. The number of websites that have a monthly specials page, that has nothing on it, or something on it that is still overpriced for what they're selling is fairly mind-boggling. Enough places could also do with doing interest free payments/instalments. I asked in the bass gallery if they'd do it, and they gave a no. So where is my business likely to be going for that Tanglewater CJ5? most likely bassdirect, who will - I played it in the gallery, but I can't afford £600 in one hit, and would probably spend the money on something else if I tried saving it!
8. Oh and to the OP, my one that's up on here as a NBD thread set me back £1100, bassdirect have a 4 string version (also pre-owned but mint) up for £1300. You can get a lot more than korean quality warwicks for that kind of money. The Korean workmanship isn't all that bad, I own at least three Korean made basses, but Warwick will have made sure the components don't live up to the ones they use in Germany, and you can be sure the tools most certainly don't.
9.
And I've just bought a Status neck for my Marcus Miller Jazz !
So what you've done is got Usain Bolt and Scarlet Johannson together and forced them to have babies in a bid to create the ultimate human being, just with basses and not said humans? o.O
10.
There is the fact that some of the sales people will be working just for the money and have only a vague interest in what they are selling. And also that they are being paid a very low wage, so there is a lack of motivation.
But as most will know, every young muso would love work in a guitar shop, so it's not like they're hard to replace!
11.
I like Mansons as shop and will visit them quite often. Their web site is not what you would call up to date. I saw they were advertising (& still are) a box of 3 Elite strings for £41.99 which I thought was a good deal. I was in there over a year ago and asked for them, to be told they did'nt have any in stock and that deal was not available. I said I saw them on the web site and the guy said he would look into it. Still is I suppose? I sometimes wonder what would happen if I tried to order them online.
When I lived in Devon, I of course had to go in when in Exeter, the same with project music, I mean what else was I gonna do? My old warwick was bought through them too, but because I had no choice as that's the way Warwick do business here... Just never a massive fan of the service, some of the guys are friendly enough, and what with the warwick, various strings and pedals, I probably spent £2000 in there between the ages of 14-19 (I worked a hell of a lot in the summer holidays to afford bass stuff, spent all my birthday money on it etc), the lions share of that being on my Warwick, yet I still got the impression on plenty of occasions it wasn't worth the hassle I was going to get when I asked someone if I could try a bass or an amp or a pedal. They instantly care for the older guys who they know are more likely to have the cash to splash, it's probably correct, but doesn't incline you to buy something from there when you're stood right there. They're alright, sure, do I prefer the bass gallery now I live in London? You bet!
12. Couple more
13. Thanks for the kind words guys. Made use of the limited sunlight to take some more shots earlier on today
14.
I run our bass department, which is decently stocked with the usual suspects, but we can't compete with the big boys and hold expensive basses. Might be worth a look, though.
What's the link?
15. And the bass centre too: http://www.basscentre.com/
16. I wouldn't class Mansons as particularly decent but then that's my own gripe. I'd add: dv247 - www.dv247.com GAK - www.gak.co.uk Absolute Music - www.absolutemusic.co.uk
17.
But you're playing in a big band which people want to see, where the 'headline' is totally legit. On a 'lower' level, lots of bands class themselves as 'headlining' just because they are on last on a multi band bill.
My band play last/headline about 50% of the time, but I call it the former rather than the latter because I feel the latter would make me a dick, given the level of my band. I tend to dislike playing last as punters are often pissed or have been cleared out by a poor support act.
18. So I actually picked the bass up on Thursday, but was going round the houses up north until I got back home and collapsed yesterday evening (never taking a megabus again). I bought this bass off Antonio, our very own fiatcoupe, who picked me up from the station, entertained me in fine style with some Alan Caron (sp?), some great bass gossip and even better bass playing! I even had a go on his GWB-35 which was a fantastic thing. It features the standard $$ 5 MEC electronics, 2 band eq with vol and blend, and two MEC buckers that can be independently humbucking in series, parallel or be set as a single coil 'J' pup. The special edition nature of this bass is in the wood selection. The standard ash body remains, which is light and produces a great sound. It is topped with a birdseye poplar top, with matched headstock, separated from the body by an ekanga stripe. The fretboard is birdseye maple, with the neck being a 4 piece birdseye maple which has a flamed look to it. Highly figured, absolutely beautiful, tonally versatile, and I lack the superlatives to describe how well it plays. The sound is as clear as an all-graphite Status, but with the warmth of something wooden They made 7 4-string versions of these and only 4 of these 5-string models, this being the third of those four, hence the number 10 on the headstock. These retailed at £2300 back in October 2007, and this one is in mint condition, so I feel I got something of a steal! These photos are Antonio's original ones from the FS thread. I took some photos today and you can now see them a few posts down. Cheers for looking, Dan
19. If it's nice and I'm allowed a little tinkle on it at home, I wouldn't mind picking it up and you collecting/having it couriered from me. This could be a great new system!
20. didn't sell on ebay due to derisory offers, still available
21.
final drop £350 collected £380 posted surely someone must love the germans!!!
Mate this is bargain of the century, right here... I still have my Dean up which I know you're not interested in, got any desire for my trace elliot head that's also listed? (see my sig)
22.
If it's dc2009's old one you're talking about, then yes it is a beauty and the colour is perfect. Unfortunately it's not a Streamer, and besides i need to shift some gear before i do anything else!
Thank you It is lovely looking. But given that can be had for a probably too low £1000, £1300 for a korean made warwick is daylight robbery, new or not. It is Evil Undead selling it now, just unfortunately it didn't work out.
23. If you're playing a good venue then go for it. I played the spice of life in soho last month and it was great. Can load and unload right next to the musician's entrance, a locked room for your gear to be stored in, a decent sound and a nice set of punters and staff too...oh and the toilets were nicer than most people have in their homes.
24.
No your eyes are perfectly fine that's exactly what they have. I tried them both at Guitar Guitar Epsom a couple of weeks ago, check this: the one with the pbass body has a jazz neck width with the two 'buckers the one with the Jazz body has 2 Pbass pickups and a precision width neck, a complete mix and match of horribleness and they both sounded proper sh|te (to me at least)
They put a P-neck on the Jazz bass? Seriously? I was actually going to buy one of the jazz-bodied, p-pickuped ones provided it had a jazz neck. I was going to buy it new as well, the only Fender I would bother to do so with... Love P Pickups, not a fan of the body shape, and hate the neck more than words can say, like the J body shape and neck but the pickups are a let down... That's seriously fecking irritating, now I'll just try and pick up one second hand in a few years time and change the necks...
25. I like the look of this, I only have my trace head and Dean which are both up as fs/ft on here, links in my sig. If you're interested in either let me know, though I can't offer any cash til either/ideally both of them shift
