1. Hello all, this is something I've been weighing up for a while. I have an awesome early 2000's 1975 Reissue Fender Jazz bass - with MIJ on the face of the headstock and CIJ on the base at the rear of the neck. An 'R' serial nr. It's probably my favorite bass to play except that it's heavy. It leaves me with a seriously sore shoulder after a usual gig of 2.5 hrs or so - week in, week out, so I'm thinking of trading it for something similar but lighter weight. It's natural with a beautiful grain, maple neck and board, bound. Pearl block markers, tort plate. I've replaced the Japanese pickups with a pair of Fender USA Jazz bass pickups (now I'll have to check the box when I get home as I'm convinced that they are 1962 vintage / reissue US pickups, but I can't find a link online to say that Fender even made such a set, so I will confirm the model of the actual pickups), although they are deffo USA Fender Jazz pickups!! I've also replaced the controls with CTS pots and a switch craft jack, plus the bridge has changed to a Gotoh vintage style jazz bridge.....oh, and I had a copper bridge pickup earthing strip added when it had the old pickups in and kept it even when the pickups were changed. It's a great playing and sounding bass and I actually prefer it to my 74! I just don't like the weight of it and as I tend to use it as my main bass and can't afford to buy another lighter version, I'm considering offering this up for TRADE. The only things I will consider trading it for are: Japanese or US Jazz basses in comparable condition (ie, mint condish), plus they need to be lighter weight. I'm currently struggling to find many pics, so this one with have to suffice until I can add more later.
2. After years of being pestered my numerous charities and having similar experiences, we decided 4 years ago to stop doing charity events and do our own night, with a decent raffle going to a charity of our choice. WE choose the charity, WE put the night on, WE sell the tickets, WE supply the PA, lights, pay the venue hire and WE promote it. The venue is a 550 capacity and it's always over full!! We charge £10 tickets and £12 on the door, put on a good support band (who we know and trust) and a decent compere for the night, plus DJ. We pay everyone a fair rate. Put a full line array PA in, full stage and room lights, amp and drum risers, the works - about £1500 with engineers. Pay 2 proper door staff - £200 Support band get £200 plus beers and food for a 40 min set and can use all of our gear except breakables, and get to put out as many promo packs as they like. Compere gets £200, as does DJ. Smart venue decoration inc lighting, table decs, snacks etc. Print proper posters and tickets with security numbers and strips etc. It's not a cheap thing to put on, but it brings in about £5k. the venue actually haven't charged us after year 1 for venue hire as they took about £7k on the bar! We host a raffle which includes prizes such as Spa Days at 5 * hotels, restaurant vouchers, super league tickets, a guitar, clay pigeon shooting, ipad, cases of nice wines, the works. We also donate ourselves (The band) as a prize to play at the winner's party / wedding etc - with some t&c's so we don't end up having to drive to Inverness at our expense!! Apart from putting the night on and taking the risk, our donation is our time playing at a party in the future as a prize. Each year, the charity has benefited from us giving them a cheque for over £1200 - for the last 4 years. They haven't had to do anything for it and I reckon that's far more than they'd have had from a night in a pub. I think our method works much better! No more charity nights for me thanks.
3. agghh!! 2 of them for sale right now and I can't afford either. Someone please buy this to stop me flogging my kids or something.
4. you won't believe the pain of frustration I get each time I see this add of not being able to buy this off you right now!! GLWTS.
5. I used to get annoyed at London venues - you know it - we've all had it at say the Dublin Castle or a similar venue, 4 or 5 bands on...... We're coming down from N Wales and bring all our stuff. No contact from any other bands etc prior to the show - Arrive, 1 of the bands comes over: "Hi maaan, look, what it is, our bass player has to get like 4 tubes, a night bus, 2 taxis and a horse drawn ship back to East Shad" "is it coooool to just use all of your gear?" They're the supposed 'headlining band' and we have to drive 5 hours home once we've finished...... sorry gents, not happening. There are literally 3 people in the world I allow to use my stuff.
6. Although not the cheapest, we use a JBL PRX set up. Active 15" mid high cabs and 18" XLF subs. That speaker set up paired with the X32 is brilliant.
7. 'These songs for you' is one of my favorite albums. Wille and the band are amazing, but Donny..........WOW.
8. 4 for me: Stingray 3 band. 1973/74 Fender Jazz bass 1975 RI Fender Jazz 1982/83 Squire JV Precision Have had over the years a Guild B301, a Gibson SG, a Mex Jazz and my 1st bass - a Tanglewood P. I mainly gig the 75 RI Jazz and the Squier JV.
9. I too have ACS custom PRO moulds. I have a set of 20dB filters and a set of 17's. They are truly wonderful. I am just about to order a set of ACS T2 IEM's too.
10.
Proud to be part of the club
Ah, so that's where it ended up!! Is that the custom order for someone else that Mark recently had advertised on his site? I put a deposit down on this, if it is that bass........ Bummer. Saving for one now!! Looks amazing.
11. I have the TH500 and use it with 2 x DB112 cabinets. It is awesome. I cannot get a bad sound out of it. I've used with with my P bass and flats; 2 different Jazzes with rounds and my Stingray.Using a pick, fingers, thumb etc. I have recently loaned my rig out to Steve Amadeo - he's on here - a great guy and bass player who knows his Onions (or Moussaka....) and he gave the rig glowing reports and was texting me during the gig saying how impressed he was with it - he has DB and GS series cabs and a DB750 and used to have an AG500, so he knows his Aguilar gear........ I also loaned the rig out recently to another bass playing mate - he's not on here, but again, he's a seriously good player with decent gear. He said it was the best rig he's ever used and is now looking to move his Ampeg SVT gear on to fund his newly found Aguilar love. Hope that helps in some way?!!
12.
Gear4music's expected delivery 1st December! What's up with that? Bought from USA Amazon instead. 8-12 days delivery but even with import duty, doesn't work out too much more.
Exactly what I did and for the same reasons. They're made in China by the way, not in Germany. Behringer have a phenomenal facility in China now.
13. Thanks for the info!! Reagrding getting hold of them in the UK; it's been nothing short of a nightmare. I placed an order with DV274 back in May as they were showing them as 'in stock'. As it turns out, they weren't physically 'in stock', but expected within a week or so. After numerous emails and dates being put back, DV247 had to refund me as the due date from Behringer for them to be in the UK was pushed back to Dec. I then found that Thomann were showing them in stock; went to order them and had a response saying that they they couldn't give me a date as there were problems at Behringer's end. Ultimately, we ordered them through Amazon from a US supplier. Not ideal, but we finally have them. I think that if you order with a UK supplier, you'll be waiting a long time.
14. This is something I will be keeping a very close eye on, as we have just received a set of P1 Powerplays and am about to pull the trigger on 5 x sets of ACS T1 in ears!! We thought, for the money, we'd try the P1's for a bit and buy the proper job earphones, then save up and buy 5 x sets of the Shure PSM 900's sometime next year when we've saved enough. Let me know the score.....otherwise, the P1's are going back as they haven't been used. We'll be using them with a Behringer X32 by the way..........
15. Bump for an awesome bass at a bargain price. I have the same colour bass, albeit with a RW board. It's an awesome bit of kit. Mines of a similar age too - think mine is a little younger, maybe a 200 / 2001 model Not sure. Anyway...GLWS. Bargain
16. I own that bass' identical twin, with a serial number not too far off either. Lovely bit of kit!
17. I've just pretty much used the version off Jools Holland. I'm not rehearsing with the band; just doing the gig tomorrow and their bass player pointed me in the direction of that, which is pretty decent and very much like the synth version off the record.
18.
Quoted for painful truth! As a recent convert, I'd second recommendations for a good lightweight 2x12 and a class D head. My TC blacksmith is amazing, though not the cheapest. The RH750 would be a fine substitute, and is versatile enough to cover any sound you might want. There are plenty of good options for 2x12s out there, and if you've enough left in the budget you could always buy 2 for more versatility!
I have an Aguilar Tonehammer 500 and 2 x DB112 cabs. It is an awesome rig. Check them out. The head weighs about 2kg! For small gigs and small rehearsals I take 1 cab (rarely). Generally I take the 2 cabs, but they are easy to lift etc and sound immense.
19. Ok, looks good Oliver. Cheers. My mate has pointed me in the direction of a live version off Jools Holland, which he reckons is worth checking out too. Cheers Guys.
20. will do........I'll check it out when I get home.
21. Hello. I've got a dep gig this sat and 'rather be' by Clean Bandit has just been added to the set. I've just had a quick listen to it on my lunch and there's no 'real' bass guitar part on there - seems to be synth / keys etc. Has anyone either transcribed it, or do any of you play a version within a standard drums, guitar, bass, keys set up? If so, what have you been playing?
22. used to have one very similar, just a bit more battered. A lot of bass for the money there!!
