1. Thank you very very much.
2. Give Steve Rowse a ring http://www.stevesamps.co.uk/. He's in Godalming,s o not too far from you and is a whizz with amps and offers a no fix no fee service. He's also the kind of repairer that will attempt component level repairs before spending your good money on replacement boards. He sorted my Tech head when it decided to go bang and has sorted numerous cabs and inspected heads for me over the years. Colin (Hamster) and plenty of other forum members will vouch for his work. If you're stuck for an amp, I'm not that far from you and you're welcome to pop over and borrow one of my Tech heads for a while. I reckon you might like the sound going by your item wanted thread.
3. I vote we have a whip round and stump up the cash for a return ticket to glasgow and a cricket bat for Beedster.
4.
Good idea.. Or alternatively look at the new Hartke LH500 for under £200 , see here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=26831 And then maybe a Peavey 1x15 or similar low priced cab..
That head plus this cab http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=28311 would give you a fantastic little set up. The thinner angled cab would be much easier to transport and give you good sound dispersal onstage.
5.
Who is the guy in the clip?
MarloweDK, a danish guy who is quite a prolific poster on your tube and a great bassist. No fuss, no politics and no endless harping on about gear, just great playing.
6. From what I gather, the only issue with the RC-2 is that the single pedal format is too restrictive for what a looper pedal has to do. I own a RC-20XL and the two pedals give you tap tempo, delete, reset, overdub, record and undo functions. I may be talking crap of course.
7. 2nd hand Carvin basses represent fantastic value for money. The depreciation on them is just unbelievable. You're getting a semi custom US-made bass for less than the cost of a Mexican Fender or a Korean ESP. The only thing that can let them down is pickups.
8. With regards to who is reponsible for ensuring an item is delivered safely and dealing with the repercussions of an item being damaged in transit, it is the seller. Most couriers won't deal with the recipient. So, if the item was indeed damaged in transit, it is seller's reponsiblity to refund the money and pursue a claim against the courier.
9.
This is peachy.... Luv the wood.... Bet this sounds well growly with that MM PUP... Enjoy!
I wouldn't really describe the double jazz pickup as growly. It's a lot more refined and, well, gentle than a Musicman pickup. It adds a real 'ping' to the sound which can work well. I actually prefer the sound of the P pickup on it's own. I definitely think the stock preamp needs to go though. Shame about the crappy exchange rate.
10. I would second going for a firewire interface if possible. If you have a PC, it'd be worth you buying a plug in Fireware interface if your motherboard doesn't have firewire. For laptops it's a little more awkward - there are PCMCIA firwwire adapters, but they cost more.
11. Is the rattling audible when the bass is amplifiedand does it affect the sustain of the E string?
12. If it were the A and D that were quiet then I'd also suggest angling the P pickup so that the poles are nearer the strings. However, you say D and G are quiet and, crucially, lacking in punch. Well,28 years is quite a long time and there's a chance that one of the pickups is faulty - either magnet or windings can develop problems. If you know someone suitably qualified, get them to check the output using a multimeter or scope.
13. +1 on the outboard preamp. If you can pick one up 2nd hand, you won;tlose out if you don;tlike the sound and decide to sell it on. Plus, you can share it amongst anumber of basses. If you want the Marcus Miller sound, a Sadowsky preamp is the one to get. The Aguilar 924(?) which is the OBP-1 in a external chassis sounds fantastic. There also the EBS microbass or the John East.
14.
they will not be metric as it is a usa model AF i think . the americans do not like metric
Thanks I found one for an old Carvin bass I owned and it fits a treat.
15. best upgrade for non-prestige or signature Ibanezes is probably pickups and getting someone handy with a soldering iron to tidy up the wiring and line the control cavity with copper foil. I did the latterto a few fareast basses I used to own and it made a hell of a difference.
16.
I've got an Ampeg SVT-II-Pro and no money, the head wont run at 8-ohms and I cant afford another cab till January at the earliest.
Not so. A head with a 4 Ohm minimum load can't run at any less than 4 Ohms without causing damage. There's nothing to stop it running at 8 or even 16 POhms - you'll just get less output. I would advise against re-wiring a cab for 2 Ohms. Even if your amp supports 2 Ohms, you are running it at the very limit of it's ability and I reckon you'll shorten the life of the valves and output transformer.
17. I recently switched to Fender supers - cheaper than the Warwick EMPs I was using with a heavier E and better suited to through body stringing. I really like them - nice growl to them- not too bright and they're lasting OK.
18. My first 5 string was a Charvel Fusion in metallic black that I bought from ABC Music in Kingston. It was pretty advanced for it'sera. Radical body shape, blade pickups, 2 band EQ, 2 octave neck and a Schaller3D bridge. Rex from Pantera used to play one. I sold it some years ago and have kind of regretted it ever since. Has anyone on this forum ever played one or does any one own one?
19. If you can stretch to £400, I reckon this'd be fanstastic http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=31960
20. I recently purchased a 2nd hand 2003 US deluxe Precision 4 string. It didn't come with all of the adjustment tools and I'd like to raise the action. None of my existing allen keys quite fit and I don;t want to wear down the hex sockets like I have done on my other basses. Does anyone know the correct size so I can source a replacement? Thank you.

23.
Looks like I am single now too!
I think you forgot to say nudge, nudge, wink, wink.
24. PM sent.
25. I would like to use this opportunity to point out that an escrow service can be very helpful in these kinds of situations.
