1. Yeah he used a JD at some point, as I remember them playing a set on The Tube many years ago (at the time of Radio Musicola) and he used one on that.
2. I probably say this every time Stuart posts something for sale, but he really is an absolutely 100% genuine good bloke, and you can buy from him with absolute confidence. I only bought a set of strings from him a few years ago, and we've kept in touch ever since!! Good luck with the sale, they're fantastic basses. Still wish I had mine. And that Blueburst is a stunning finish.
3. I went for one of these when they changed distributors in the UK and there was a sale on. All the 6ers had been sold, so I got a 5er instead. Kept it for years, and only sold it a couple of years ago. Stunning basses.
4. I used to know a bass player who played with his thumb, precisely as it was intended. Would be no use whatsoever to me though.
5. I've used all sorts of different strings for years....Wariwck, Elites, Ernie Ball, Rotosound, etc. etc. I decided to bite the bullet and go for the Elixirs, and I couldn't be happier. I've had them on for months now, and they still sound incredibly bright. I don't use a pick, so I can't speak about the flaking, but I absolutely love them. No going back for me. Better to spend the money on strings that will last, rather than cheaper strings that you have to change every month or two. False economy.
6. Jeff Beck - Seen him live a couple of times and he absolutely blows me away. Marek Dorcik - the drummer in my previous band. He's really a great jazz drummer, and I really miss playing in a band with him. We just knew intuitively what each other was going to play. He's a fantastic musician and will always inspire me.
7.
So... which batteries are best for metal?
Definitely metal ones *I'll get my coat*
8.
Yeah, Costco is a good place to buy Duracells. For active basses? Where the battery lasts months? Do yourself a favour and buy good batteries, not cheap questionable quality batteries.
Exactly. Why spend hundreds if not thousands of pounds on a bass, put good quality strings on it, put it through top notch amplification, and then scrimp a couple of quid on batteries. Like sticking remoulds on a Ferrari.
9.
This^ But then I go and spend what I've saved on their amazing cookies or cakes.
There's always a downside
10. I'm a member of Costco so I always get a 10 pack of Duracell there. Bargain compared to supermarket prices.
11.
Sounds like your goldfish is looking a bit poorly so you went to the fayre to see if you could win another.
You are not a man, you are Cantona.
12. Quite obviously Mark King Not quite so obviously Mark King
13. Yum, yum, and thrice yum. (nearly rhymes with bump)
14. Like anything really, work out both the bass and vocal parts, and work on them very, very, slowly. Eventually, you'll get to a point where the vocal parts will start to come quite easily if the vocal and bass rhythms are quite basic. For the more difficult ones, it's just practice, practice, practice, slowly, slowly, slowly, and speed it up very gradually. Also, it depends on whether you're talking about lead or backing vocals. I do backing mainly, although I have done lead vocals while playing too. When listening to any music at all, listen to the backing vocals, and concentrate on trying to sing along to that part instead of the lead vocals.
15. One of two probably: Bruce Foxton - My main influence growing up as a bass player. Fantastic powerful sound, great band (especially live - no frills - just pure sweat). James Jamerson - Sublime bass player, and would just love to get inside his head to find out how he developed the bass lines that he did.
16. "High quality MP3 instant download" Is that a matter of opinion?
17.
Headed Statii always seem weird to me...figure hey??? Good luck with the sale
Same here. It's comparable to some others that have a neck with a 2+2 headstock on a Jazz body. Just weird!
18.
Donald Fagens Nightfly album has some pretty tasty playing and i have always liked Marcus Millers stuff with Grover Washington. Yep, its all middle of the road but the playing is clear, defined and tasty (all IMHO of course)
Nightfly.....Fantastic album all round, and great bass playing on every track. An album everybody should have a copy of.
19.
No Richard Bona Pete?
There's a point Stuart, how on earth did I miss him out????
20. Something like....in no particular order: James Jamerson Marcus Miller John Patitucci Geddy Lee Pino Palladino Stanley Clarke Alain Caron Bernard Edwards Jaco Pastorius Bruce Foxton I stuck Bruce in there at the end purely because, he may not be a virtuoso, but he is the reason I play bass. His tone and lines stood out for me among all the other bassists of his generation.
21. What utter w***fest. The bass player needs a serious talking too. It's not about you, you tit. It's about the song. There's a reason the bass line is what it is. It works. Yours doesn't. Cock. Absolutely awful cover.
