1.
Did this ever sell?
Nope. Still here. Along with the car with the knackered engine on the driveway.
2. As the former owner of this bass, I can vouch for it being a great bass and great value. Really versatile. Everything from a P-Bass to a J-Bass to a MM. Guy's a great person to deal with too. All the best with the sale Guy.
3. That Jazz looks absolutely fantastic. If it sounds anywhere near as good as it looks, then you're onto a winner. Well done that man.
4.
Don't know if it's mentioned already, but there's an old trick of mine, which works everytime I have to transcribe basspart - just hook the whole tune up an octave (it will remain in the same key, get the idea? "Transcribe" has this function, but you can do that with other programs, setting +12 semitones), and bass will be in your face - no boominess, just clear bassline. It saves time, and it's better for your ears to listen to this 'midrange' stuff, rather than boomy mushy low-end thing.. Laimis
Never thought of that before. Just tried it, and it's perfect. Well, it is true......you DO learn something new every day!!! Cheers.
5.
....Your mate's music is ace by the way, right up my street that
Seconded.....good stuff that.
6. "the item may have some signs of cosmetic wear" You don't say!!
7.
I met Mark King backstage after a Level 42 gig in Cardiff in 1981. I was a young tongue-tied kid who'd just discovered his playing after growing up listening to pretty much exclusively old school rock music (Purple, Sabbath, ELP etc.) The rest of the band were great & spent ages talking to me & signing my programme. Mark actually went & got his basses that had been packed away by the road crew so I could play his red Jaydee & the legendary white "Starchild" Jaydee. He was absolutely bloody fantastic & to this day I don't think I've ever met a nicer person. I won't hear a bad word said against him - he's a f***ing gem.
Same here. Saw them at Manchester Apollo in the mid 80s, and they spent a lot of time after the gig just sitting around with fans for a fairly long Q&A session, signing all sorts, etc. Top bloke.
8. Forgot to add, would trade for a 1.4 Peugeot diesel engine (8HZ engine) for a 52 plate 307.....fitted.
9.
how is the G string on this? projects well?
It was my main gigging bass til I got my GB Spitfire, and I never had any cause for complaint. On another note, the Ibanez Blazer in your avatar was my first serious bass! I got one cos I loved the Stingray (like the one I'm selling), but couldn't afford one. Wish I still had that bass too.
10. Due to my engine deciding to commit suicide, and a replacement required, I sadly have to sell my Stingray 2EQ in natural with maple neck and black scratchplate. I took this from Matt (Machines) in a swap deal in 2008, and loved it from the moment I saw it. It's in fantastic condition for a 16 year old bass. Matt had obviously looked after it, and I have too. Matt's original swap thread As Matt stated in his thread, the previous owner had a new pickup position routed, but Matt immediately moved the pickup back to its original position. I've kept it in the original position too. It doesn't affect the tone, and is a very clean job, should you wish to experiment in the other position. Some of the photos are Matt's which he has kindly allowed me to use. Any questions, please free to ask. Price £650 (+ p&p if delivery required). 11. £1500 for a 4 string of Bernie's is a steal, let alone for a 5 string!! If I had the cash I'd snap your arm off. Beautiful bass.
12. It should be rank, but it's absolutely stunning. Well done that man!
13. I can't remember the track precisely, but I remember many, many years ago, Radio One had a week where differents contemporary singers/musicians took over the evening slot and played just music from their own personal collection. I was a big Jam fan at the time, and Paul Weller played a lot of stuff from his influences, so there was a lot of old soul, etc. Then he played an MJQ track, and it just hit me. That was approximately 30 years ago, and it still makes me want to listen to them even now.
14. The one I remember from playing years ago, that is still one of the most impressive songs we did is Mr Blue Sky by ELO. Not bad for a 5 piece covers band. Used to play the bass, bass pedals and backing vocals (including the high operatic ones), so I had my work cut out!
15. Before I'd even found out what it was I'd have gone for Bass 1. It's got a nice tone, and sounds slightly "old school" in that it's warmer and has more depth. I think the one thing it does prove is that your username is incorrect
16. Hey Justin, sounds good that. Must be great fun to play too. Cheers, Pete.
17.
I never really thought this until a few months back when I realised I hadn't owned a fully passive bass since I was 17!! My 75 precision has had EMGs since I got it. My $$5 is active and I rarely use the passive option. I fitted a East Retro on my Marcus I bought off Gaf on here - although already active, the East brought it totally to life and gives it enormous presence - I have done some a/b recordings to show my old school mate who insists passive is best esp on a Fender and even when balanced the active just cuts through so much better (you can find the sweet spot easier). I do occasionally switch it to passive but usually I am left wondering why would anyone want a bass to sound like that!! (Please take this as a purely personal statement of taste - if you dig passive then fabulous, it's every bit as great) If I can juggle finances then it will be a 4 knob U retro on my $$5 and a P retro on my Precision. Fitting an East is a great investment.
Nice to hear that about the Marcus. I've got one with the original pre on it, and thought about an East a few times. Still something worth thinking about then.
18.
Jim Smith-Cardiacs definately merits a mention here. Super solid player of some very abstract nonsence given to him by his brother to play along to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxhuQWKwbqY
Excellent choice. I remember hearing "Tarred & Feathered" when I was younger and it blew me away. Still one of my favourite tracks of all time.
19. James Jamerson does it for me every time.
20.
well should for some reason i struggle to get my asking price i'll keep you in mind!
Hang on......just found £5.00! I'm on the way
21. Right now, that would be my ultimate Precision. Shame I don't even have £7.95 let alone £795. All the best to whoever buys it.
22. First bass owned: Kay Les Paul shaped bass Go-to bass: GB Spitfire Your bass: GB Spitfire
23.
Don't worry... I had a fake Hussar jacket and a white line across my nose!
An old work colleague of mine did the same, but with Tippex instead of face paint, and ended up with a burn stipe across his face
