If the gridge isn't connected to the gickup bround, is there any benefit to brounding it?

It took mine a year to notice that I was playing a fretless.

There's now the Positive Grid NEO Spark too, at half the price of the Boss. How good it is on bass is another question.

When I played with a ceilidh band, I used to take an NS WAV-4 EUB (42" scale), a Warwick Thumb fretless (34" scale) and an Ashbory Mk I (18" scale, fretless) and swap between them as I fancied. Didn't have any problems.

That 1818x is in stunningly good condition, especially as it's 35 years old. Can't help but think that replacing the XLR connectors with Speakons would be a good idea, assuming that they fit the same holes.

Couldn't find any reviews of it on bass on Youtube but did watch a comparison video, this versus the Boss. Boss wins out slightly on sound quality and VR gimmick, Spark NEO on comfort, the app, and the fact it uses USB-C not Micro-USB to charge. I would also point out that as the Boss has a TRS dongle (I assume that's for charging), that probably means that certain active basses will have issues with it - the ones that don't follow the convention of battery negative to ring, ground to sleeve.

I wasn't intending to get anything from the MS-99XX+ range as there's no PC or Android editing facility. However, I thought I'd indulge myself. I went for the CDR rather than the B - there's a considerable overlap of effects, the missing ones being drive and amp sims which I don't use. Going to go through the factory presets tomorrow and find what might be of use (there are some interesting names). Not sure how easy the memory +/- buttons would be to use with the foot but my DIY up/down pedal for the MS-60B should work on the CDR+ using a USB-C cable instead of a mini-USB one.

Have you got it set to autosave (page 20 of the manual)? If you have, and you switch the effect off with the footswitch and don't switch it back on again, I think the off state will be saved. Note - I haven't experimented with this so this may be wrong.

I tried that with my Cort first. It helped but only very slightly. However, you'll be starting from higher quality tuners than I was.

I found one to fit a Warwick Buzzard so you should be able to find something from the guitar equivalent of Curvissa.

As an extra data point, my Original, s/n 036, had a Bart NTMB in it. As it failed soon after I got it and now has a Delano in it, I can't provide more details on it.

42" scale is the same as a double bass (at normal 3/4 size).

A fretless 5 would be nice.

At Friday night's gig, the bass was run through the PA as well as backline. The sound guy said that it was too bassy, so I backed off the bass quite a bit (it was already backed off). The sound wasn't to my liking, rather harsh and lacking in bass, but it went down well. So I would say that good tone is subjective.

I hadn't realised that there were bolt-on Grinds when I had my neck-throughs - I think you may have mentioned this before. I had a 5 and a 6, both with that scoop, and another which was either a Zephyr or a C5 (or possibly both, I can't remember the exact naming convention).

No, I haven't watched any. Fair enough, that's good to know.

I used to be in a club band where the singer would ask if there were any requests, much to the despair of the rest of us. He would also ask if anyone wanted to have a sing, causing additional despair. And we had to be pretty alert when playing, because he was liable to rearrange a song on the fly, or randomly come in after seven bars on what should have been a 12 bar solo.
