I was tempted but I'm not a good enough guitarist to do it justice (the Variax 300 is fine for me).

I should be there - barn dance the preceding evening which I should have recovered from. Will probably bring the JD Thumb and possibly its fretless brother, and the Tsai 5-string. Maybe the Tsai 7-string too. And perhaps the MB200 so I can play hide-the-bass-amp. Is anyone likely to be bringing an Omni 10 or 10.5 along?

[/quote] Drill hole through body, take strings off, reach into body holding offcut bit of wood, screw strap peg through body into scrap bit of wood. You should only need a little piece, a couple of cms a side should do it just to spread the load.

There's a few along the Smallbrook Queensway, a couple of kilometres away from Sound Control. There's also PMT, out along the ring road a bit. If you go further afield, apart from the Crack Converters (apparently the Kings Heath one is quite good, keep meaning to drop in there), there's the Music Exchange in Stirchley which often has good stuff in. He had the nicest Squier Strat I've ever played in there a while back (a sampler made by a Korean factory when they were touting for business from Fender).

+1 for Si's advice. I revamped our websites, concentrating on the barn dance one, using a lot of his advice (was precluded from using all of it as I didn't have the necessary material) and last week got four enquiries which have led to at least two gigs (maximum would have been three as two of them were for the same time on the same day). Still got some tweaking to do.

However, it does require a bit of care when putting an asymmetric bass on it (ironically, my Warwick Thumbs among them) as the rubbery bits are quite grippy, so the bass doesn't slide on them (not even with an oiled finish). So the way the bass is leaning when you put it into the stand is the way it will stay leaning. Plus I don't think you can leave basses plugged in if they've got edge mounted sockets (I'd have to check that though). Does keep the footprint small having them racked that way round, as opposed to having multiple A-stands on stage. You just need practice putting basses into the stand. Why don't you get a bass version of [url="http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200193446243"]this[/url] instead?

If you ran a 4 ohm and 8 ohm in parallel, the impedance would be 2.7 ohms, so I imagine you could do that with the amp switched to 2 ohm (not having dealt with switchable amps, I'm not sure how exactly you have to match the impedance, so check the manual).

Got a slightly scratched Squier Precision Special 5-string from them for a fair bit off. They had other stuff like effects and amps in there too. I'm not sure whether everything's been sold from there now or if the section has been moved, didn't see it last time I was in.

Edition Signature Sheet, 1 Body Chest Bow, 1 Bass stand" The words "bass" and "stand" may provide a clue. As there's some sort of brass socket right on the midline of the body at the end between the tuners, possibly said bass stand consists of a short stick on a base, which plugs into said socket in a Freudian fashion. I initially wondered if it was so you could emulate the Dean Pace fretless-onna-stick with it. I must say, when I first saw the Nobby (or photos of it, anyway), years ago, it struck me that it was an ingenious way of minimising the need for special parts. Trouble is, as Warwick are doing a reissue, they can't really rework it to reduce the splay on the tuners and inset them into the body (like more spaced-out Steinberger ones), or do anything about that horrible sticky-out strap bar. Perhaps it's time they did a headless Thumb, like they originally intended... Oddly, I can't see links to any basses other than the rather nice-looking Star Bass (2 links to that), the Nobby, and the Streamer LX (2 links to that), although there's some 6-strings on the photo at the top that I assume there should be links to too.
