  1. I saw him with Whitesnake in Leeds on the Saints & Sinners tour, according to setlist FM that was Dec 1982 which fits as i recall it was blowing a blizzard with snow as I left. Micky Moody was still in but Galley had taken over from Marsden. Powell on drums, Lord on keys. Pretty good gig from what I recall. Didn't really appreciate how good a player he was until I saw him do a little solo piece at an Alexis Korner memorial show many years later. I don't think I'd heard any Back Door even by then, slipped under my radar.
  2. My birthday is April 14th so the closest Sat night would usually be designated meal with friends night out but this year Sat 13th is a gig booking so I'll be doing that instead. Some of the same mates might turn up to the gig so it's a reasonable compromise.
  3. Hackett would have been better off finding out if the singer from The Watch was available but since he's used Sylvan so much now it's probably the easy option.
  4. If those are the only 2 options I'm going with 'what'.
  5. I want the opposite, I want alter the pitch but not the speed to transpose to a new key.
  6. Cheers guys will look into these tomorrow
  7. I'm looking for free software that will change the key of a pre recorded song without changing the tempo. I'm sure someone recently posted a link to free software that would drop a pre recorded fully mixed song into a new key. I'm having to learn some new stuff and no time to learn it once then rearrange it to the new key so this would be very handy, especially if it transposes the vocal harmonies faithfully as well as the music. Cheers.
  8. I've never undersdtood those venues that have a bit of a moan at your stage volume but then insist on filling the gap between sets with music which is far more intrusive and at a higher volume than you've just performed at.
  9. My main current covers band wanted to do a couple of drop-D songs but they already downtuned half a step so I now have a Jazz in drop-Db😆 I probably ought to invest in a couple of droptuner machine heads at some point and put one on each main gigging bass.
  10. Didn't know him but he came across as one of the good guys in his posts. Condolences to his family and friends.
  11. Me too, mid 80's. He was probably slightly past his peak and I'm not the biggest blues fan but you could tell he was a bit special.
  12. Think this might have been my first 'proper' bassline learned from a book but I might have worked out most of Peaches by the Stranglers by ear (which I'm still rubbish at) slightly before that. Flushed with enthusiasm I then ploughed on to have a crack at Living In the past😃
  13. Yes, frequently misinterpreted as about a boy-girl thing but in fact David Gates wrote it about his late father.
  14. Looks like you won't be doing any CRS shows - they are winding up the whole operation!_😲
  15. The bass in the OP looks like it was inspired by Rory Gallagher's strat.
  16. In that case they are even less organised if they can't decide on the 8 to tell folks to learn in advance. Done these type of auditions before, you call out a song that they have given you on their list only to find out 'we don't play that one much anymore' and in fact you know it better now than they do😄
  17. Never done the weekend warrior thing but have played the boat club a couple of times, though not within last 15 years. Don't get worked up over the venue, they will use it because it's close to West Bridgford. It's more like playing a school hall with a big stage than a modern music venue. Stage is quite high though so you feel you are 'up there' performing which is quite cool.
  18. If the band have 30 or more songs to pick from it shouldnt have taken too much organisation to split those songs up among the expected auditionees so each person knows exactly which 8 songs to concentrate on.
  19. If I had the money and the bands on were ones I liked I'd definitely do Cruise to the Edge, it's not like the OP as it is not aimed at people wanting lessons. I'm not sure I could really concentrate on bass lessons whilst visiting nice locations, I'd be straight in holiday mode and sack the playing sessions off so wouldnt get my money's worth.
  20. I've always preferred Gillan's versions of Living For The City, New Orleans and Trouble over the originals but I'm probably in the minority.
  21. Concur with Dave above, best of luck with your acoustic venture.
  22. Not sure I'd call it 'fun' but I've enjoyed rockin out a bit doing War Pigs with the latest band. Makes my fingers hurt a bit though.
  23. Had the first album for a while after I heard Heavy Situation on a promo. I was hoping you might get a slot at a classic rock society gig in Rotherham but it looks like you have got some live dates lined up now anyway?
  24. Final bump then it'll go to Gumtree and I doubt it will come back.
