By coincidence I happened upon that on eBay the other day too. There's also a matching P/J Precision, think that and the jazz together would make my eyes hurt, not to mention my wallet http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Grand-Master-Custom-Shop-MASTERPIECE-PJ-BASS-100-handmade-Stunning-/280945697137?pt=Guitar&hash=item4169ab2171

He should just post on here then all the experts will tell him he just needs flat EQ and lots of mids.

If IB are touring with Frost* does that mean that Jon Mitchell has to perform both sets at the same gig or have Frost* got a replacement for him? If they were playing anywhere near me in December I might have gone along as I quite liked Milliontown and would be nice to hear more from MOTP, they only did a couple from it at the last gig I saw them at with Mostly Autumn.
For whatever reason, whenever I have to play through a TE amp, it needs a lot of tweaking to get a usable sound.
True to an extent but I found that once I got a sound I liked I didn't have to change it much more for different rooms etc. I still think that a well set up Trace rig is, considering the little money the older ones are going for these days second hand, as good a value for money set up as you are likely to get in the UK. I got a 1x15 combo plus 4x10 extension speaker for a total of £400 and I only retired the extension cab due to the weight and awkwardness of taking it to upstairs gigs, it was still performing well. Played through all sorts of rigs at jam sessions and rehearsal rooms that were way more expensive than my Trace but none of them were vastly superior in tone to my ears.

I assumed that was happening when I carried out the original experiment and started taking stuff out systematically to see what might be compensating for each other but when I got to a genuine flat EQ it really was quite weedy sounding. I was just playing pubs where we didn't go through the PA so I needed a decent backline sound as that was all the punters heard. Fortunately I was also using wireless and could go out front at the sound check and make sure the sound was good in among the other instruments. It became more important in the last band as it was just a trio.

I realised that I seemed to have become overcomplicated in my EQ on my gigging rig a year or so back. Nothing too complex, Trace combo 7 band EQ with the usual TE options of preshapes and compression. I had also been using a Hartke Bassattack which added further EQ. So after reading several threads like this one I went back to basics and flattened all the EQ on both the Trace and Hartke pedal. Result? sounded like a bag of sh*te. Spent the next half hour tweaking various things to get a sound I really liked again and, lo and behold all the knobs and buttons were pretty much as I'd always had them in the first place. Lesson? leave well alone, all those things really were contributing to the sound after all. Diff'rent strokes and all that indeed.

This was one of the few covers that an originals band I briefly thought about joining did in their set. I got reasonably close in terms of the playing (detuned a cheap practice bass a couple of tones) but can't stand the fuzzy overdriven sound. Gave up on the band in the end but I found this quite useful; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiEYHmVYvU0

Not sure if it actually works but these chaps had a crack at an ELO number.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjbjNlA2tUQ

I'd love it if a band had the nuts to cover this oddity, always liked the lyrics...
Ah yup that's the one ! Cheers for that
Did you watch it until the end? The final product of 'The Waiting' shows that actually he's not that bad a singer at all, no autotuning when that was made IIRC.

Yes I figured it was inspired by mosrite ventures type thing but somehow they've managed to make it even uglier Some of the other models are quite nice though, including the vintage P. Never seen a Dillion in the flesh though.

Whats the best Jazz Bass I can buy for under £300
KevB replied to matybigfro's topic in Bass Guitars
There's a Tokai jazz sound here claiming to be an 80's model which are supposed to be the good ones; http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2c6772551d Top end of the OP's budget though. -

That Washburn reminds a little of the Schecter C4 which I had a few years back; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKQWm1STr3o&feature=related

Whilst browsing on the web I came across a Sting inspired vintage P type bass by Dillion. As I'd never heard of them thought I'd check out their web site. Apparently US based but have the guitars and basses made in Korea. I got stopped in my tracks by this object that was listed as a 'discontinued' model - I wonder why! ; http://www.dillionguitars.com/bass/electric/DMB7504/index.html

Yep, stick 'em in the corner of the hotel restaurant and make sure they take requests.

Never mind where did all the gigs go, where did all the bleedin' 'bass player wanted' ads go? I've been looking since my last band broke up in January and the only real nibble I've had was with an originals band that I ultimately didn't think were right for me and turned down after a couple of weeks learning their material. Whilst doing that I missed out on applying to another band who play covers and apparently (according to a guy who I know that has seen them) are distinctly average. However I got in touch anyway and found out that this band had no less than EIGHT bass players they could have chosen from apart from me and the slot had been filled. Time to get some singing lessons from McGraham and switch to warbling instead!

A mate of mine is trying to persuade me to go see them in Nottingham, mainly due to the support act (Anathema) that we've seen before and were quite interesting. Need to hear some more Opeth to get convinced. Some of what I've heard is OK apart from the silly grunty metal vocal stuff that comes in to some songs. At least that's been ditched on the latest album.

I've had that Jonas Helborg book for over 10 years and still not mastered a single chord!
I'm the opposite - I've booked my first ever Rush ticket on the strength of the album!
Hope you have a good 'un, nothing quite like seeing a band for the first time promoting an album you really like, best gigs ever! I might be having one of those experiences myself later this year with a band I'd never have expected - Europe!

MOTP is indeed a decent album. I did get the impresion there was tension in the band when I saw them at a gig just before MOTP was released so I'm not holding my breath that this lineup will record another one.

Why look for a bass player when you could have a guitarist instead?
KevB replied to Happy Jack's topic in General Discussion
You mean someone who started out on guitar and switched to bass like Macca or Lemmy? -
Reminds me that I haven't listened to it for a few weeks. WOT pretty much sums up my feelings about it. Given the ticket prices, on the strength of the album I'll probably be missing the tour next year. Don't think S&A was their worst album by a long way, I'd personally rate TFE as poorer than S&A for a start but each to their own.
