1. ESP LTD basses are some of the best value basses on the market. I liked them so much I bought two fretless Bs, 4 & 5 string. I really can't fault them for the price. They are not a match for custom basses but they will never be for their price. Necks are lovely. Good tone from them. My fretless four will be up for sale soon.
2. Lot of good advice. One other important thing. Arrive at the venue with plenty of time to spare before the gig starts. That way you will be more relaxed and have your gear set up in plenty of time.
3. Go to the guy in Belfast. I got one from him a few years ago. Arrived quickly with no hassle. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gotoh-201-Bass-Bridge-Black-Chrome-fits-Fender-bass-/351404460873?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item51d1568b49
4. There seem to be loads on eBay if that's of any use.

6. Blimey! two bands I've enjoyed this year. That guy can fairly work an audience.

Have to admit I did like them a lot.
8. Don't know if it helps but Status Graphite ship their new basses with UK Mail. They are worth a lot more than £1000.
9. I have only used passive pups with J and U-Retros. These pre amps are so powerful on their own that I'm not sure of any advantage with active pups.
10. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I did it for ten out of thirteen years in a band playing tunes from the 30s and 40s and I replaced a guy who played electric. Try telling Steve Swallow he's wrong. He's a monster talent on electric in jazz. Try using a semi-hollow with piezos in the bridge. Might temper some nae sayers.
11. Ah well. Unfollowed.
12. Come on people, let's not allow this to go the way of so many threads. Lots of good advice and that is what the OP asked for.
13. Maybe Marcus Bell could chip in, he's one of the players.
14. And don't forget they are good for metal too. Sorry, [duck]
15. I'd say don't use slides too much. They are a bit naff to my ear. Listen to Gary Willis. He has some very good pointers on YouTube. Keep your touch quite light. That will let you get the most out of the instrument. Gives you greater dynamics as well.
16. Status do custom sets so you can chose any gauge you want down to .25
17.
Any advice or tips?
Photographs when it arrives!
18.
Pudding after pudding even if you don't eat your meat!
And if you eat the same pudding every day you'll soon get bored of it.
19. This idea of keeping notes so you know in advance that when strings will die can only lead to one thing, boredom. How will you ever know what dull strings sound like again if you never hear them as dull. Life has its ups and downs. It is part of what makes life so interesting. When you have a bad gig/practice with bad strings you then have the new strings to look forward to. Perfection is not perfect. Just concentrate on the playing.
20. Cort and ESP basses are some of the best value instruments out there. Probably because they make them in such vast quantities.
21.
I've noticed many set neck basses have tone blocks. Is this just a decorative contrast, or is there some deeper, more sinister reason? I know you'll know.......
Proverbial can of worms! Wood doesn't affect the tone Oh yes it does. Oh no it doesn't Oh yes it does Oh no......
22. Stunning! Clearly your choice of the neck through was spot on. Looks fantastic.
23. And here's how to do it with tints. http://youtu.be/q01dQ_I7h3A
24. Ivan Brackenbury usually hits that spot just right. http://youtu.be/36a-jueRUBg
