1. I wasn't so sure about the darker colouring but assembled that actually looks quite special.
2.
...have bass-player demographics really changed that much?
No. 80% of bass players still play Fender type instruments.
3. Common sense really. I think you summed it up in your first sentence. Back in the 70s, and I was there too, rock musicians were all young. Those same musicians are still playing today and are suffering from having to lift all those heavy cabinets around. Technology has also changed. Speaker magnets are much lighter now if you want them to be. There is the choice. If you want a big, heavy cab buy one. If you want you want a small light cab buy one. Your choice. I know what I have gone for. Same reason I have suspension on my mountain bike.
4.
... and I don't even attempt chords
Oh yes, do try chords. That is one of the best ways to get the intonation right. They will sound horrible to begin with but stick at it and they can sound amazing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNum9VxhKds
5. Get one with lines on it. Then you'll know where you are. Lovely instruments with a great sound when you nail the intonation. As with anything a teacher will help but I learnt fretless without one. I'm sure some will say it shows.

Status B2
thanks! So would you say the EQ01 has more range of tones?
In a word yes. Mind you Alan also offers other filter based preamps too. http://www.acguitars.co.uk/acg_admin/wordpress/basses/electronics/

Status B2
What makes you prefer the status?
I suppose it's just simplicity. It is just easier to cut or boost a single frequency. The Status pre works on both pickups at once as well. As you will know the EQ01 has low pass adjustment for the individual pickups.

Status B2
how would you guys describe the on board electronics to say an EQ01 on an ACG? I love those electronics
I don't think you can compare the two as one is high/low pass filter based the other cut/boost of pre selected frequencies. I have both and prefer the bass, mid, treble of the Status. There is no doubt that there is a wealth of tones available from the ACG/East pre.

Status B2

My Series 3 is in my view the best fretted bass I have ever played. It is the Status necks that get my vote each time. They are a perfect fit for my hands. The graphite generally regarded as being more stable in various climatic conditions. Love the electronics too. I find the mid switch on the 303 board very useful. I don't have any experience with the B2 but it will have the usual high build quality from Status.
10. Stringsdirect have a number of brands of double ball strings. You can use single ball strings with the grub screws in the head piece as well.
11. Saw that earlier today. I think the "head" looks hidious. They could have used a bit more imagination for that, particularly on a bass that costs nearly $12000. Looks as if it has had a bad accident. As always, MG's playing is astonishingly brilliant.
12. I have a couple of voodoo labs on my board, pedal power 2 plus and 4x4. The 4x4 has two 9v/12v outputs at 400 mA, four 9v at 100 mA and two 9v at 400 mA. I take a current doubler cable out a 400 and 100 sockets and that powers the Zoom ms60b's 500 mA just fine. That's probably best for high current pedals. Again plenty of others out there.
13. Your power supply should cope with the power requirements of the Strymon pedals but this sounds like an isolation problem. You could try looking into power bricks that have isolated outputs. Plenty on the market. That should sort things for you. Other more knowledgable BCers might come along with more detail.
14. Bought some planet waves patch cables from Chris. Very slick deal and his communications were most excellent. Highly recommended.
15. Thanks Rikki, really appreciate that.
16. Liked that. Great tone on the bass. Good use of space too in the arrangement.
17. Glad you enjoyed it. Signal chain? The instrument goes into the vol pedal then into the GEB-7. That is on all the time with a very slight boost at 120 and 500hz. Then into the Mooer slow engine followed by the Ditto x2. That is used to play a loop while I play around with effects at the end of a tune. After that comes the micro POG and the Zoom MS60b. The zoom is used for effects I don't use so often and don't want to spend money on stand alone pedals. The Zoom splits the signal into stereo and goes into TC Flashback then to TC Hall of Fame. HOF has a lovely warmth that isn't there in the same way in the following Strymon Big Sky. The Big Sky is a phenomenal pedal and I wouldn't be without it. That's really what produces all the big pad sounds. The stereo signal comes out of that and into the RC-50. I'm looking into the idea of taking a signal from the RC-50 sub output through a aby pedal and back through the effects chain. Should be able to produce some more interesting sounds from that. It's all a learning process at the moment. I've only been doing this kind of stuff for a few months so it's lots of fun trying out new ideas.
18. By the end of February I had an abstract, improvised piece almost ready to film. Then I took ill. Coming back to it after three weeks I just couldn't get the same vibe from it so abandoned it. However out of that came this. I had a complaint from a bloke I know who didn't like me never showing my face. Hence the name "Ian's Request". I played this on the ACG Finn which is strung with TI Jazz Flats tuned EADGC. The Ebow is probably a bit too dominant at points. Usual WARNING about a bass guitar not sounding like a bass guitar. Also, if you think Death Metal is the best thing since Justine Bieber then this might not be your cup of tea. http://youtu.be/2Ps3iGVRfQM
19.
just seen the Stairway thread have I plagiarised it?
Yes! and as I posted in that thread I'm going to sue you. We could settle out of court of course. Couple of Jelly Babies suit you? (other children's sweets are available before I am accused of something)
20.
I thought that was Marillion?
Now your just Fishing.
21. And so many people will now look at the Spirit song on YouTube and make them lots of money from that. The phrase "clutching at straws" comes to mind.
22. Walking through an abandoned industrial building. Very atmospheric. Can we hear the rest please?
23. Has to be a good band if they let the bass player say more than two words. Good stuff. I am not worthy.
24. Nicely done. The kitchen adds a good vibe to it as well.

MS60b buzz

It does sound like an overload of some sort but it is there with passive and active basses, lad rash has agreed with that. It takes a fare whack of sound to overload it properly though. This is a back ground sound. Frankly it shouldn't matter if it is passive or active.
