Really tempted by these. Was gonna go for some Wizard Hammers but am really tempted by the noise canceling goodness of these. I play heavy music with lots of distortion etc, reckon these would be good? Looking for a massive, dark thumpy neck pickup and a rounded but zingy bridge pu.
TBH I've never heard 'em! Maybe a PM to nickcarey? The SD website says this "Similar to the Classic Stack, but with increased output and a thicker-sounding mid-range response making it better suited for rock tones" Now, I have the Classic Stacks in my Jazz and they certainly are zingy in the bridge and full sounding in the neck so guess these may be just what you're after with the extra output and thicker mids?
Sorry if obvious / been asked before here! Just wondered if anyone had put a precision neck on a jazz body. (I know it is quite common to put a jazz neck on a precision body). By precision neck I mean the wide one. I don't like jazz necks much they feel a bit crowded.
I had the same conundrum so had Mr.Shuker build me one! Here she is: Lovely example if I do say so myself P.S. the nut is the std P bass width!
I'm trying to work out if it will stand up in the van, if it will then I'll probably take it.
That's what has stopped me in the past! From Ashdown site: H x W x D (mm) 1150 x 610 x 430
Haha I really am very close to pulling the trigger. Does anyone know what hight (in feet) these are?
If you can get the thing moved around for gigs, etc - Do it! I'd love an 8x10" just can't do it.

I like, use & recommend the Boss Bass Chorus. It lets you set how much of the signal is effected on one of the knobs, which gives you great control over how much of the chorus effect is actually mixed with your bass's signal. Regards, JTB.

WOW - Very nice! Is it a new or used one Toasted?

I've got a set of TI flats on the P bass I bought off Clarky and it does the perfect Simonon/Clash sound!
ISM3 is a de-reg frequency
Indeed! Sorry about that, didn't spot it there Cheers for pointing that out crez5150 JTB

A quick heads up for you - all those frequencies listed above need to be licensed, by law. See THIS TOPIC for more info. Cheers, JTB
I have a Duncan active APB-1 that I could swap for your bridge pickup. It's nicer than the SPB-2, IMO.
Hi Stevie, Got one of those already thanks. Also I would like to trade the P'ups as a set rather than split them at this stage. Thanks for enquiring though, JTB
On a related note, I was somewhat surprised to see the 'new' Duff McKagan signature basses are nowhere near as nice as the original Japanese 'Jazz Bass Special' that he uses. I bought my original Power Jazz Bass Special - a 1989 model for 200 quid from the US.. the new signature one I believe is a lower spec MIM costing £500. I think i'd rather buy another Jap model as it will be far close to Duff's original.
I thought Duff has been using Fender Custom Shop made Jazz Specials for years now?

How about a pre amp 'pedal' type unit (MXR, Sans Amp, Sadowsky, Aguilar, etc) into a power amp?
-
Here's my Lifer, my first 'decent' bass. It's a 1998 USA P bass. I played it the other day for quite a while and what can I say...the old slippers! She ain't going nowhere

In my experience I've found alternately listening through headphones and the speakers helps when mixing to balance the mix a little better. It takes away the room reflections, and although not ideal, gives you a direct sound. Good luck!

I plug my P bass into a Sadowsky pre amp pedal and then into a Mesa Boogie Bass 400+ rig and it sounds really nice, as it does through the various different (solid state) stacks and combos at rehearsal places. IMO I think it's another 'ear of the beholder' situation! The only thing I do dislike with the valve amps is the the bloody re-valving costs

I Wanna Be Sedated - The Ramones, Wishing Well - Free, The Last Fight - Velvet Revolver.
-
Right now - Bob Marley & The Wailers - Exodus (Deluxe Edition) Very, very good album.

I would replace Duff McKagan in Guns N Roses for some good and dirty rocking!
It's not just you. He's a massive c*nt. And a sh*t drummer. For absolute comedy gold, get hold of the St Anger DVD and marvel at him failing to keep up with the other guys in any of the songs.
I see people call him a sh!t and/or lazy drummer all the time, and I don't get it. Where is his playing that bad? He's on some of the fastest and heaviest records & songs of all time and IMO sounds pretty damn good! JTB
