1. Where do you buy it from Gaf?
Seriously, honestly, All of you, try it just once and see what you reckon! http://www.gorgomyte.com/ Especially impressive on warwicks bell frets.
2. As well as checking out bands at venues have a look around at the 'bassists wanted' ads online. There's normally loads of bands in Camden and East London after a bass player... Good luck but I think the world's your oyster being based in Kentish Town.
3. It's an interesting one because to this day the best bass + amp setup I've heard, in the flesh and in the gig situation, was a Stingray plugged into an Ampeg SVT2-Pro and Ampeg 8x10". Just phenomenal! That said I love my Mesa 400+ and my MarkBass SA450 pretty much equally through my Barefaced cabs. It's only normally me not fancying humping the dead weight of the valve amp around that stops me from using it sometimes
seems to be alot of underlying valve hate in this thread which makes me sad
4. Hi Clarky, TBH I'd keep both and voted for that. They're both unique in their own ways and if you like them then why change that? To sell one and then regret it would be just awful... JTB
5. Lovin' that Doc J, Well done!
6. Another +1 for Andy @ Wizard from me.
7. I would say so. Give www.watfordvalves.com/ a ring and talk to the bloke there, he has a great wealth of knowledge and can supply you some great new valves if needs be. Cheers, Jon edit:grammar!
8. In my experience I would choose thus: For Vintage - Seymour Duncan SPB-1 Vintage or Lindy Fralin Standard P pickup, For Modern - Wizard Area 51 Stealth or Seymour Duncan SPB-3 Quarter Pounder for Precision bass. All stellar bits of kit. Good luck! Jon
I - like most regulars on BassChat I guess - will be raising a glass in Si's honour next Wednesday...
+1 to that idea Clarky. The least I can do.
10. Hi Musicman20, I have a Lakland USA Glaub I bought earlier this year and it has the Hanson pickup in it. The pickup I would say is 'vintage-hot' in that it has that classic P bass sound but with a bit more output than a vintage model. That's only the beginning though as the neck feels and plays great, a stunning bit of kit and worth investigating. If you're in London anytime you're more than welcome to pop round/meet up and try it out... Cheers and hope that helps you a bit, Jon
11. Hi Steff, From my experience - Watford Valves all the way. On that note it's a lot quicker and easier to call him - The email/online side of the business is somewhat... eratic. Regards, Jon

OldGit

Another shocked & saddened BC'er here. I met Si/OldGit once at the same Bass Bash that Nash took his Sunn amp to (Northampton?) and he was good fun and really nice. Condoloncies to his Family & Friends. R.I.P. Jon (thebass)
13. Maybe we should start a club Lozz196?! Back on track bump from me (again)
Am as equally gutted as Jonthebass, as just had one of my US Precisions resprayed this exact colour scheme. When I could have bought this one, and had yet another Precision However, this colour scheme is obviously popular, so shouldn`t be a problem selling. Mid-week bump on me
14. Hi Truckstop, I had a look at the Brace Audio website and you're fine with that stuff as it operates in the 2.4GHz license exempt frequency range. Regards, Jon
Are there any restrictions when it comes to digital wireless sets? I was thinking of buying a Brace Audio DWG1000 but I'll not bother if it's a PITA to sort out a license for it and everything. Thanks John, this has been really interesting to read. Truckstop
15. I'm really so very gutted I can't explain Just bought exactly one of these from Ishibashi and it's sitting at the PF depot awaiting the charges to be paid... It's going to have cost me just shy of a Grand to get it in my sweaty, grubby hands. Ho hum. Better be a good one after all that! I think the moral here is - Great bass, Great price and somebody will get a good deal here. Have a sorry arsed bump on me! ATB, Jon
16. What about a 30th Anniversary Ray? Click me sig link for a ganders!
17. My 2p's worth: How about a Gallien-Krueger 2001RB Amp on 2 x Barefaced Compacts? That combo would not only be loud as sin but would slice through the Rock/Metal guitars and be well easy to transport. Also would be very different from most bassists set-ups! Failing that, as mentioned before, an Ampeg SVT2-Pro through an Ampeg 8x10 cab is probably still the best Rock 'n' Metal tone I've ever heard. You just need the space and transport to keep it Cheers, Jon
18. Hey Rich, The VHF frequency you're on (175.0 MHz) is in the License Exempt band and AFAIK that's not earmarked to be changed. Regards, Jon
With regard to the licensing/frequencies thingy... how is this likely to affect the older VHF units? My old AKG SR100 -- picked up for peanuts off fleaBay, and absolutely brilliant -- is trundling along nicely on 175.0MHz, but what's going to happen?
19. Hi Sarah, Nice one on the result there. Can I ask how went about learning theory please? I'm interested but don't know where to start! Cheers, Jon
20. Darren was a pleasure to deal with and absolutely no hassle. Thanks, Jon
21. Hi there, What part of town are you lot based and rehearse please? Cheers, Jon
22. Hi mrtcat, WOW - I'd love it but am in the same boat as you being in a second floor flat! I went from using seperate Boogie 1x15 & 4x10 cabs to 2 x Barefaced Compacts to sort that problem out for me - What are you looking at getting? - edit - I see you have one BF Compact already. I cannot recommend adding another one highly enough! Regards, Jon
23. I plug the bass into an EMO D.I. box, Then into a MOTU 8Pre AtoD converter and finally EQ/Compress-Limit/Whatever in Logic. If it's a more involved recording then a mic on the bass cab aswell. Hope that helps. Cheers, Jon
24. It'd a funny old game the custom made thing. I've had 2 now, by different luthiers, and there's always something not quite how you wanted it. As mentioned before do be sure about every small detail as things can turn out very differently to what you expected. Good luck! Jon
