Yep - there's a thread about it here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/226516-disabling-or-replacing-piezo-tweeter-in-markbass-cmd121p-combo/ and here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/68970-markbass-mini-cmd-121p-simplest-of-upgrades/

I have one too and love it. Lovely and lightweight and easily transportable. I tend to hear "oh, it's a MarkBass, that's fine just plug it in and go" from sound engineers. I did the tweeter mod to mine so it doesn't hiss and it still sounds great. I find it's a darn good DI box for my audio interface too so my recordings have improved as well.
I guarantee your mixes will sound better just working this way.....
Mine certainly did - especially with my bass. You can just hear the tone like you couldn't before.
and Focusrite drivers are OK too.
Good to hear. Which Focusrite are you using? I've got the Forte and found this page with links to Windows 10 compatible drivers: http://uk.focusrite.com/answerbase/windows-10-compatibility

We have things like this happen on the website I work on at work. It's most likely a caching issue where either the search results list view or the product page are cached and haven't updated with the new price.

Ah, gotcha! I run off a desktop and record onto a different drive to my OS drive myself so I'm doing just that. Totally forgot the OP was looking for a laptop for a moment and may not have multiple internal drives. So yep, what you're saying is spot on (but you knew that of course hehe). How much ram do you by the way? My almost-one-year-old system has 16GB and whilst I've not noticed it running out of ram I tend to upgrade it as I go and ram prices are fairly decent at the moment. It doubles as a gaming PC so I try not to skimp on anything. I'd probably say 8GB at a minimum for a new recording laptop though and 16 if you can. Not many will come with 32 I imagine.

Scan do a range of Pro Audio Windows laptops that they design for DAW use: http://www.scan.co.uk/3xs/custom/daw-digital-audio-workstation-pcs/form-factors I get all my components from them and they're pretty good. I've not heard this before. Surely an internal SATA-3 hard drive (especially an SSD) will be way faster than an external one over USB? Motherboards will have to cope with the data running through the USB bus just as much as it would internally through the SATA bus so I'm not sure how this could free up resources.

That was an absolute joy to watch and listen to.

I don't consider low input volumes to be too much of an issue. In fact, I regularly record at -6 to -8db and put a gain boost on the track in my DAW. I used to record hot (i.e. just in the yellow bit of clipping) and the sound quality was pretty poor, had little headroom and if I clipped into the red it would distort. This blog post explains it: http://therecordingrevolution.com/2014/02/12/stop-recording-so-hot-into-your-daw/ and this older one too http://therecordingrevolution.com/2010/10/25/are-you-recording-too-hot/ (also he's got loads of good advice on his site - well worth a read). Recording at 24 bit gives you 144db of dynamic range he says and I read elsewhere that good, low noise preamps makes the signal to noise ration a non-issue. The preamps in my Focusrite Forte are very good for this.

I'm thinking about updating myself but was going to wait a few months for any problems to be ruled out. I had a concern over Reaper (which seems fine as mentioned above), the drivers for my Focusrite Forte and licencing issues with all my VSTs (EZDrummer, SampleTank, Miroslav, Kontakt Elements, Guitar Rig etc.) But so far it all sounds like it's worked fine for you guys. I'll report back if I do upgrade and will test all software and will let you know if it all worked fine.

Their website is painfully slow which is fairly off-putting (will the payment process time out?)

Nice work Discreet, congrats!

No mug pics?

I put a pair of JBXN pickups on a new Squier VM Jazz and it just sounds bloody great now. A KiOgon wiring loom helped too. Can't overstate the value of these pickups really.
Despite being pretty annoyed at Mornats for pointing out today is Sunday and not, as I thought, Saturday
Sorry! And damn, you know what? I'd buy this month's playlist as an album.
-
Just had a listen to the playlist (thanks for putting that together alittlebitrobot). I know we say it each month but the quality is truly amazing and gets better each time. I'm off for another listen, partly to try and pick one from a great bunch but also, genuinely, to have a listen to a proper good set of songs on a Sunday afternoon.

I thought I'd missed this one but managed to fill in some bits that were left on mine, did a quick 'n dirty mix and here it is: https://soundcloud.com/mornats/anyway

I do like the fact that you can make an Android phone to fit a specific purpose. Sounds like it's got some decent features. Let's hope there are more audio-orientated phones in the works!

Maybe have a chat with your neighbours and give them your mobile number. Say that you do practice bass but don't want to disturb them. Tell them to drop you a polite text if it sounds unreasonably loud to them. That way they have a way of telling you to turn it down that's not confrontational (which may have been why your old neighbours didn't say anything to you directly) and you'll be happier in the knowledge that you're not disturbing them.

de afwerking mk4-4++ - blablas has that building itch again
Mornats replied to blablas's topic in Build Diaries
I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed seeing this being built on here. It looks outstandingly beautiful. -

I took a peek at the link in your signature blablas and I must say, this beast is a beauty! http://home.online.nl/blablas/bass/mk4/mk4-4++%20details.html - I'm just reading your build diary now -
I've got an Indonesian-made Markbass CMD 121p combo which is 12.5kg - more than you wanted but the Indonesian ones seem to be a little lighter than the Italian-made ones so wasn't sure if it would be a consideration for you.
