1. EZMix2 for £17.95 too for those who like mixing presets: http://www.timespace.com/product/EZMIX2-120/3/10000057/toontrack_ezmix_2_%28serial_download%29.html Also, if you're thinking of getting Native Instruments' Maschine you get 7 sound expansions for free at Andertons (and you also get Komplete Select but that's a current thing and not a special deal): http://www.andertons.co.uk/dj-equipment/pid25744/cid727/native-instruments-maschine-mk2-in-black.asp (same applies to the Studio and Mikro versions.
2.
Can't find a compatible page turner
It's behind you! (Again, sorry!)
3. I bought the Rock EZX for EZDrummer for a bargain £12 from TimeSpace: http://www.timespace.com/product/EZXROCK-120/3/10000055/toontrack_ezx__rock%21_%28serial_download%29.html I'm tempted by Session Horns for £45 but I'm also considering one of the bundles with the S61 keyboard and Komplete (which includes Session Horns) so hmmm... will have to do some thinking!
4.
I'm playing in the pit for a panto in December
"Oh no you're not!" "Oh yes he is!" Sorry, someone had to
5. This page from Eltham Jones' site (a renowned luthier around this way) may be of interest to people following this topic, in particular with regards to every fret other than the 12th being a compromise: http://www.edgeguitarservices.co.uk/scheitenballs/
6. I can second the recommendations for both EZDrummer 2 and Groove Monkee. I use them pretty much exclusively for creating tracks.
7. I'll add to this my list of Really Tenuous Claims to Fame. I once played Keith Duffy from the Corrs' bass* (* before he bought it) Like I said... tenuous...
8. I played an Ashbury in my local Hobgoblin and really liked it. Nice sounding ubass when played acoustically but I didn't get a chance to play it amplified.
9. A MarkBass Little Mark III is considered a clean sounding amp and has a great DI out that I use for recording with into an audio interface.
10. Another option is one of the old Japanese Nanyo Bass Collection basses. Small body and nice and light - 7-8 lbs mostly. Bargains too.
11. Not a precision of course but have a pair of JBXNs in my Squier jazz. And I did a sound comparison vs. the stock Squier pickups: https://soundcloud.com/mornats/pickups-comparison The sound difference is a little subtle in the recording but the JBXNs pump out more volume than the standard pickups and sound very full on in reality.
12.
Was your favourite the one with the slot port or the four round ports? I think they got muddled at some stage in the bash.
Honestly can't remember which one had which ports sorry!
13. A great sounding cab that looks cheap with no brand name on it could be ideal for those dodgier venues. I preferred cab B - the one on the right. I think it was the one without the bracing? It had clearer high-mids if I remember rightly. If I needed an extra cab for my MarkBass CMD 121P combo I'd definitely consider that one.
14. Details of the Warwick shop for you: Warwick Music Equipment Trading (New York USA) Inc. 76-80 East 7th St, New York, NY 10003, USA Phone 1 (0) 212 777 6990 Fax 1 (0) 212 777 6994
15. I had Rotosound Nexus strings on my Overwater (by Tanglewood) Contemporary Jazz and they sounded lifeless from the start. On the plus side they continued to sound rubbish quite consistently after that.
16. I prefer sample B. It sounds a little more musical and has a nicer top mid/top end to it. Without giving away which was which I know that I preferred the combo that was on the right hand side (as you looked at them) slightly over the other one for the same reasons. However both did sound really good. My combo is the Indonesian one with the tweeter mod. Let us know which one was which in the recordings! I should have popped the stock tweeter back in for the test in hindsight but next time eh?
17. That Fender custom shop bass with the semi-hollow P body, jazz neck and P/humbucker combo was just so lovely David. As was the 65 P and the Shuker and the Warwick. If I had a house to sell... I think the take-home message from the MarkBass shootout was that you can still buy with confidence from MarkBass. Nothing wrong at all with their Indonesian-made combos. Also, the tweeter mod (on my Indonesian one) seems to help push the mids out and give the combo more presence.
18. It was good to meet you all today (and meet some familiar faces again too). There were some stunning basses there today too and I can't get over Andy's mahoosive pedal board!
19. That looks great
20.
Interesting to hear positive things about PMT in Bristol. I have been in there several times, when they haven't been busy at all where it has been really difficult to get anyone who was bothered enough to help (although once they were actually helpful). One time when I actually was intending to buy something I got fed up of the effort and left. Don't bother going in there any more.
I have spent rather a lot of money in there over the years. Not sure if that has helped or not. It's strange though, a lot of stores do seem to be very inconsistent in how they treat some people compared to others. I'm in there quite often though which may help too.
21. I think I'm gonna leave it as it's not causing a problem and the bass plays beautifully. Thanks for all the suggestions though. If I do ever decide to do something about it I think I'll go down the grooved saddle route.
22. Focusrite have been a bit behind in Windows 10 support for their drivers. Shame really given the popularity of their interfaces.
23. Well the MarkBass Italian vs. Indonesian test is on! If anyone has a good video camera that will do bass sounds justice it may be good to record it for Basschat posterity.
24.
I'll be bringing my MB CMD 121P (as I'll need it that evening at the same venue) and as mine is not modified, maybe we can do a comparison?
Indeed! Is yours an Italian-made one?
25. I can bring:

Squier VM jazz with a KiOgon wiring loom and Entwistle JBXN pickups and Elixir steel strings.
My new Fender MIM Precision.
An Indonesian-made Markbass CMD121P with the tweeter mod done.
I also have a couple of things to sell (I'll pay the £20 to basschat before the event if I bring anything to sell):

Yamaha TRBX 504
Zoom b9 effects unit
And I also have an Ashdown 220 Touring 12" combo with a VS-112 cab but this will take a lot of room so will only bring it if there's interest.
