Oh and something I've been learning about and using a bit on this track is the really cool automation in Reaper. I knew about track volume automation but I've been using it to turn on and off effects and move effect parameters on the fly. So I've got some beat slicing going on with a drum track and bass line where I used automation to turn on and off the button to start slicing in one of the Traktor's 12 effects. Pretty cool and it opens up a load of nice things I can do now.

Got mine pretty much finished now. Just need a few more listens with fresh ears and on different speakers before uploading it.

That Hamer's pretty nice

I was auditioning some instruments for my idea for this month and accidentally created a nice little track that could have some legs of its own. It's not what I had in mind for the comp but I may get two out of this month's

I'm on the free package (not for long - I have 1 min of upload left with 2 tracks plus April's challenge to upload) and I get the upload button still. Maybe you've gone over the 2 hours limit for a free account?

Mmm, I'm thinking Beastie Boys when I see that vid.
Here you go. This is apparently the actual photo of Mornats handing the Supercharger plug-in over to Mr Smalls (obtained via Reuters news agency). Good to see they both made the effort and scrubbed up for the occasion, eh!
Yay I have hair again!! -
Resistance is futile
I know, I've just spent the last half hour looking through their Jake and Elwood models!

Nice! The more I read Maruszcyk NBDs the more I want to order one

Play of the Day, Basschat Composition Challenge, March...
A faint start, with distant whistling wind stirring a soft wind chime. The atmosphere is thickened with a pounding drum beat and rolls of thunder, strident strings feed the pressure, aided by low brass announcing a rush of air which... dissolves into a clear, open echoeing space, almost disappearing. The growling horns attempt a warning, but the full fury is unleashed with wild attacks from full guitar chords, powerful jungle drums and insistent violins, the tension layered with assault from all directions, mounting to an effervescent climax and final crack of doom. Difficult to listen to this without feeling one's pulse accelerate; it's a vivid reconstruction in sonic terms of the scene portrayed, wound up to a fury after a cunningly deceptive lull. The photo is captured in 3D, with numerous effects and sounds crafted into an entirely credible canvas; the brush strokes are invisible. Top marks from a technical point of view; there's lots going on, but nothing superfluous; I'd even go as far as to pronounce this a Masterpiece. Full marks, on all counts. Drizzle of applause from idle onlookers, now drenched, thanks to the imaginary deluge...). My next post in this topic will feature... 'Aunty Cyclone', from lurksalot ... Until then... Have a nice day Douglas
Wow, thanks! Glad you liked it and what a lovely write-up! As for those full guitar chords I admit that I did the full 360 spin of my arm - classic 80s rock style - when playing them -
My Squier VM is more than equal to my MIM Fender precision. I upgraded the electronics and pickups on it and it sounds awesome. Like others have said, try a MIM jazz and see if you feel it's better than your current bass.

Nice, I like it! Congrats on getting it released.

This is my Friday morning/afternoon sorted -
I still need to man-up and attempt to sing. Vocoders and auto-tune will be essential!

Nice, congrats! Just listened to the latest podcast from Samplecast, liked it and subscribed.

Nice. Just installing Piano in 162 right now. Also, you can grab it from VSTbuzz: http://vstbuzz.com/freebies/piano-in-162/ (and also send a donation to the creator from there if you wish).

Ahaha yeah, totally
i think i will be skipping this month. i have tried all sorts but it all either doesnt fit, is too cheesy to be tolerable or i cant get the idea to sound like it does in my head. its a bit disappointing really as i like the picture and i thought it would be a good one for me. no point in flogging a dead horse though so i will just enjoy the listening this time round.
Stick with it. I'm not all that happy with my entry this month but it's been a learning exercise and that can only improve my next track. Get some feedback on it and it'll help more than having it sat on your hard drive. I've been surprised by people liking tracks of mine that I thought were some of my weakest.
If you're sending to another track, don't forget to un-check the 'Master/Parent send' in the routing dialogue (upper right...), or you'll get the track twice...
Awesome, cheers! I'm definitely RTFMing now!
-
Cheers and yeah, I was just about to go off and read the manual! I'd actually tried to use sends to send a couple of tracks to another one so that I could add a reverb to them both but found that it sent the actual audio too which made the whole lot louder (so I was clearly doing it wrong!) Every day's a school day with Reaper, there's so much it can do!

Actually I was only at around 28% on CPU usage during playback. Here's mine: I wonder if my complete lack of track organisation has anything to do with this. Mind you there are some hefty instruments in there. Yours look very organised Douglas, I'd be interested to find out more about how you group your tracks under the master drums and master tracks folders.
-
I think I hit 50% cpu usage on playback which is still way above yours. I must be doing something wrong myself! Can't wait to hear yours to see just how similar they are
Oh, I dunno, maybe my expectations are a bit lower (highly likely..!), but I found these to be quite the opposite; very effective. They can be a tad temperamental, and not start up sometimes, but give a polished enough performance for my old ears (depending of context of use, of course...). I'm happy enough with 'em.
I'll stick with them. This is the first time I've used them so maybe they'll work better for me in another track. I much prefer the actual sound of Session String Pro though. Shame Action Strings didn't sounds a bit more like them. Anyway, I have both so all good Righto, here's my track: https://soundcloud.com/mornats/tornado When you're listening to it beware that it starts off quiet, slowly increases in volume, drops off a bit, comes back in and then hits hard. Very hard. I've made myself jump a few times! Edit: rendering 19 tracks of virtual instruments does this to your CPU!

I think I'm in a position where I can say mine's finished. I reworked some later parts and had to EQ a few things many times to get them sounding right on all of the speakers and headphones I have. One takeaway from this is that I'm not very impressed with Action Strings. They never seem to sound good at all. Maybe I just need more time with them. I am however very impressed with Session Strings Pro. Whilst they don't have anywhere near as many variations in the animator that Session Strings (normal version) has the range of options to create your own and the increased array of articulations more than make up for it. Rise and Hit is pretty awesome too.
