1. Some beautiful pieces in this month's collection. Toughest choice yet, my shortlist wasn't short by any stretch of the imagination.
2. I still need to listen and cast my vote but I'm playing at a mini music fest this weekend so it'll be a few days. Can't wait to listen to them!
3.
Aye! Very talented chap. What I like about him is that he truly 'plays' Maschine like an instrument - no pre-recorded loops. What you hear is what's happening at his fingertips. Akin to the guys'n'gals who use keyboard drumming to compose their beats, something I attempt myself from time to time.
I found this guy who performs live with Maschine too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCAyAlYyTv8&t=0s He does the demo for Native Instruments that shows off the integration between Maschine, the Komplete Kontrol keyboard and NI's software (the ability to do this is what got me all hyped up about my new setup!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWMOMga2nwM
4. Got mine done. I went for the second piece that I did: https://soundcloud.com/mornats/brooklyn-two-one I went with a basic slow hip-hop beat with some nice slow piano on two tracks. I find myself mixing Rain Piano MkII and Plastic Ghost Piano a lot these days. It creates a nice ethereal piano sound quite suited to cinematic style pieces. Miroslav Philharmonik played over tape hiss gives those sections of the track a nice authentic sampled feel, quite suited to the style of this track. A word on Maschine. This thing is awesome. I put most of this together in around an hour using Maschine. This is only my second attempt using this hardware/software combination and so far it's a winner for me. Credit to the NI guy at PMT in Newcastle for demoing this and convincing me to buy it (totally forgot his name sorry!) 5. Not what I expected from you Dad but I do like it! I've been playing with my new Maschine MkII all week and I blooming love it. My first play around was almost my track for this month but then I had a hip-hop thing with piano stuck in my head so I knocked that out in around 2 hours (Maschine lets you get things down really quick) and I'm debating no whether to put that one in instead.
6. I've just bought myself a Maschine MkII so expect some derivative techno techno techno techno techno techno techno techno techno.
7. Well done! You broke my little run that I had going hehe
8. Voted Some really nice atmospheric ones this month. I went for the ones that summed up the feeling of being there the most. And I was actually there! So thanks to you all for putting out some really nice sounds to what is my favourite photo that I've ever taken. Cheers!
9. Ah sweet, I can actually overwrite the version that's on Soundcloud. I just wanted to make sure it was ok to do so after the deadline
10. Two things: 1. Love the Machu Pikachu reference 2. I've fixed the mix, or at least made it better. Typical that I do this after the deadline bah!
11. Sounds pretty spot-on to me when listening on my Tannoy E11s. The room sound is perfect in my opinion. I downloaded a trial of Sonarworks for my headphones and it sounded pretty good. It pretty much removes the sound signature of what you're listening on and gives you a flat response back (not a perfect flat response but I gather that's pretty impossible to get). I'm quite tempted by it to be honest. One problem I have all of the time with my mixes is the room sound. Mostly because I mix primarily using headphones then only move to speakers to check how bad I got the room sounding A lot of the time everything sounds like it's sat back behind the speakers so I need to try and work out what's going on there and fix it.
12. I didn't think I'd make it this month. A few things happening that were somewhat more important but I managed to get this one down this afternoon. I've not been able to listen to it with fresh ears yet so I'm not expecting the mix to be spot on. https://soundcloud.com/mornats/urubamba A normal amount of instruments and effects this time: Instruments: NI Battery Shortnoise 2 Sound Dust Plastic Ghost Piano Sampletekk Rain Piano MkII NI Razor NI Rise and Hit Evolve Mutations Effects: ReaEQ NI Passive EQ NI Supercharger GT NI Replika TAL Reverb II NI Transient Master T-racks
13. I'm pretty certain it's an SB315. It looks like a 300 series and black hardware means 300 or 310 series. If it was originally active then a 310 series otherwise a 300 series. And the 5 strings make it a 315. The 400 series have some rather nice exotic wood finishes and look a bit different to this. My old SB315 was 7lb 9oz so yours is almost definitely sub-9lb, probably less. Good luck with the sale, these are always great basses.
14.
Seriously tempted by this
I've created a monster...
15.
Sitting back living off the spoils of last months success. Laziness always follows success.
Yup!
16. Yep, the first I think I'm struggling to find some time this month. I've got a skeleton down but it need a fair bit of work. I'll do my best to get something out though.
17. I'm just gonna leave this here. http://epipes.co.uk/products.html
18.
or some dicking around with pan pipes.
I read that as "bag pipes". I'm convinced there's going to be bag pipes now.
19. Here's some background on the photo that may help with inspiration. I took this one back in 2009. I'd just hiked the Inca Trail in Peru and had arrived at Machu Picchu. I was standing on the terraces looking around shortly after dawn and managed to tear my eyes away from the splendour of the city. So this is the view from Machu Picchu, looking over the Urubamba Valley. The Incas chose this spot for their city partly for the view. So this is what happens if you turn away from what everyone's focusing on and dip into some peace, calm and beauty. I thought we could do with this after the events of the last week or so. And please, no bagpipes!
20. Wow, thanks everyone! July totally crept up on me so this was a lovely surprise when I saw it earlier today I'll dig around for a photo right now. I'm thinking about something that sums up peace and calm. I think we can do with that right now
21.
Why not just go for a good external USB audio interface? Lots of good options with the added bonus of being able to do low latency recording so you will get some added bass value.
If you're wanting a dual-purpose listening and recording interface then be warned that the latency on the Asus that I recommended totally sucks for recording. It can record, but it's not designed to be an audio interface in that regard. It's (considerable) strength lies in music playback.
