Dont forget Yamahas..... They are excellent VFM new or 2ndhand..... Practice amp for less that £100 has got to be a Roland Cube 30x in my opinion... you will not get bored..... and by the time you can afford an upgrade you will know what want / need.

not tried the low E tuning yet... might just stick with low A (as we play a lot in A...!) Yes the PRS was about 1/10 the cost of the Fender..... ! I have always liked the Fender VI but thought it a bit too much for a toy like mine....

Rob, IIWU I'd keep your 'Ray and get the Vigier...... Yes the old 'ray has mojo, but at the end of the day its an old 'ray..... Put it this way.... would I swap any of my PRSs for a mint rare '60s Fender P even if it was worth sh!t loads more ? NOPE, in fact there are [u]NO[/u] basses I'd let them go for, just wouldnt. Once you find that special one it'll make your world rock. You know what the 'ray (as a model) does and your still looking for something else - I'm not sure you'll find it in an upgrade 'ray or yam. This is all my opinion of course but its based on my experiences to date FWIW

Has it cost me money? Yes.... However, it has also - saved me years of torment trying to find out info and trying ideas that would come to nought - introduced me to some very smart, and switched on bass players who I respect and admire, - made me absolutely determined not to compromise as ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE - answered all my questions however stupid (at times) without (too much) embarassment - allowed me to experiment with ideas and gear that have moved on and made others happy.... And - made me feel at home even tho' I'm not a jobbing or pro bassist In the words of mastercard..... PRICELESS...!

"oh my god, I cant believe it, I've never been this far away from bass" I've just bought a 28" scale baritone guitar (Yes - OK - its a PRS..... ) and I wondered if any of you guys have one, what tunings and strings are you prefering and I presume you use them for blues or HM? Its a huge shame because its a wonderful bass (by far the best Fender I've been near!) but it seems unfashionable currently... I guess there cant be many more than mine and the one that you owned in the UK.....

Gotta agree with the BRX here.... Having tried a few Accoustics and even owning an Ovation bowl back (to accompany my g'tarists Adamas) I gave up trying to get it right. If you want to play with other accoustic instruments (especially good g'tars) you are gonna have to plug in to give it just enough oomph to sound right.... What I have settled on is a semi (Ovation Viper) with nylon wounds strings through my amp but turned right down...... SOUNDS perfect.... Hence my suggestion as above. The Viper is still loud enough to practice unplugged as would be any accoustic, but if you want to expand from playing in the bedroom, you will sadly need to be able to plug in or be very carefully mic'd up...

Errm does anyone have a copy of said chronicle? I have the '09 one on order but could do with a kind BC colleague just flicking thru to a certain beast if anyone does have it.... Ta ....

I'd love a pop at disecting one... (in prose of course) and as I have written reviews in other comics I can give you whatever you need. Travelling basses do appeal to me and I nearly bought a Sinsonido recently for just that reason. Isnt 28.5" just longer than a Baritone guitar at 28" .....? That is my next purchase.... FYI.... Cant wait to see them....

I play well enough that my g'tarist doesnt give me 'that look' anymore and obviously well enough for him to ask me occasionally.... "how do you that?' or "where do you go after that 5th?" etc. You know what?. I'm happy with where I am. Will I get better? Undoubtedly. Can I play like Flea? Nope, and I have no desire to!

Actaully I take it back there is one design I dislike..... now dont get me wrong I like HM and I like MOST of the HM orientated designs but this one just gets on my tits...... Its too damn fussy! The headstock looks like an afterbirth......
