UPDATE - just spent a couple of hours messing about with it, and I am keeping it. I was finding it all a bit muddy and indistinct on the gig, so just hooked it all up, and mucked about with the settings. The thing I have found to get that "bite" is to boost the mids slightly at 2.5khz, and roll off the bass to about 9 o'clock. Suddenly it all tightened up nicely, and I think it will now be just fine. Next gig (on bass anyway - guitar tonight lol) is Friday coming so we shall see. Also now found that the overdrive on the STM is great (not what I had previously thought) so my MXR 80 Bass DI may be up for sale, assuming that the shop won't give me a credit not... Hi This is a great head. I expect you know all about it if you have got this far. It was a shop floor model purchased by me new not that long ago, and as such has a scratch on the top, but otherwise is it minty mint condition, and full working order. I currently use it into 2 Vanderkley 112 cabs and it sounds great, really good, but I have seen something I want to buy, so... The pics show the scratch on the top. Looking for £430 plus postage, or you can come to try and buy in Nottingham, or meet up somewhere. Chris

Sansamp or ashdown lomenzo pedals into current rig would by my first try. -
Got my cab in the end then? John is a great guy to deal with.

Genz Benz shuttle 6.0 - Whats the best lightweight cab
nottswarwick replied to AMPEG's topic in Amps and Cabs
To expand, the compact is good, but I need a tweeter so the vanderkley is MY preference. But the compact is a good shout if you don't want a cab with a tweeter. -
There's no right answer to this despite what people might tell you. I have a Streamliner 600 and for me the best sounding cab is the Vanderkley 112 EXT (33lb.). For somebody else it will be different - Barefaced (e.g. the Midget T - a 112) has many supporters and is extremely light. Aguilar make a very light 112 as well. All three are around £600. The Barefaced has the highest power rating I think but do you really want to buy an expensive cab based on superior power handling alone? The only way you'll really know is to try as many of them (and others) as you can with your amp and bass. Shops that are confident in their product will have no problem with this. Edit: Can't see you getting too much choice of 212's under 30lb so have offered 112's that you can double up on
This is my set up too and it is great. Nicer than the compact I had too. Paired with another it would be awesome but I don't think for a 112 set up it can be beat. -
Yep, guitarist races off or is too slow - suspicious minds, sex on fire, to name but 2.

None of you will be surprised to learn that most of my drum student are unable to play consistently to a click. It is the biggest area we generally work on, but sometimes it is hard to convince them to spend 20 mins each day grooving to a click. I often drum live, and usually find that I have to supply a hats chick or something when the drums are not playing, just to keep it together. So yes, my job as drummer has to be to keep time. With regard to tempo, I have a Tama Rhythmwatch metronome clamped below my hats. This has a big knob for instant access to tempos and I write them on my set list. I have it silent but use the flashing lights to count every song in. I know that the tempo is consistent night to night, but I don't follow it once started, as usually subtle tempo shifts help a song to breathe. So the answer is, in most of my bands, yes.

And I am finding my STM600 (the alleged baby brother) to be great also. I think unless you need a massive amount of low end/headroom (like Shep does) I cannot see an occasion where the cheaper 600 would not be more than loud enough. I am using mine into a Vanderkley 112 8 ohm cab, and it is more than loud enough. Honestly into a 4 ohm load, the 600 would be more than enough for almost anyone I would think. So, don't overlook the cheaper one, it is the same in all other respects.
Yamaha. My bass tutor uses a simple RBX170 in his band and it works great for him. I have a BB614 that I picked up for buttons (although it had some issues to iron out) and I would say that a BB414 would be a great, inexpensive bass (I have heard some people say they preferred it to the active 614).
Yep. Yamaha. Job done. Always my recommend to student of bass and guitar. Can not simply go wrong.
Assume nothing! Particularly when dealing with 'musicians' and 'singers'.
Yes, I mean, the band has only been gigging for 18 years after all, so I guess they need time to get the hang of it -

It's not something people actually say, but I hate it when we are carrying all the gear in from the van and people put it all ON the stage. I mean, don't you realise we then have to move it all again to prior to setting up. No brains. -

I tried one quickly at Bass Direct and it was ace. Really comfortable. I also tried a Roscoe and that too was awesome so basically I need £2k. Lol.
