1. Wonderfully made basses ... I couldn't get on with the active body because I'm heavy handed and a noisy barsteward. I sold the body and got a passive RI body. Swapped the pups for Wizzards and with the micro tilt have got the action down to a otters vest's width. Will not use in anger until Saturday night, but I've got a good feling about the wizzards !!! BUMP
2.
Just played my first gig with my SVT sounded epic. Was warm after is that right? not really hot but warm including the jack lead.
I don't know for sure .. but if you play in the winter dont take it into the cold night too soon. I've only had solid state amps after being a guitard for umpteen years. A bass playing friend told me that you can crack the valves with extremes of temperature. It may be an urban myth ... I don't know?
3.
Lush!
plus the one ...
4. Obviously a nod to the Arctic Monkies, but everyone starts by sounding like their contemporaries/ favourites a bit. You play like seasoned vets who have been together for years. Obviously some hard work has been put in and there is some excellent playing given your years. Good Luck.
5.
Wouldn't getting married be more of a pain in the arse in the first place..... think I'd rather stump up the cash....
I think you are right. This is what is known as "false economy".
6. It also handy to have the National Insurance number of an ex wife or 2 ... :brow:
7. It's a strange thing ... when I pick my bass up at home I more often than not play some slap bass. I have improved a lot with slap just through practice, but I rarely use slap live and if I do I'm never happy that it is cutting through. If I slap at low levels at home it sounds pretty good, as soon as I try in a band situation it doesn't seem to cut the mustard. I don't beat myself up about it though.
8. All these "old flames" piping in with memories !! This bass must be riddled with STD's. But .. a beaut .. have a bump.
9.
Yep the signal output is less than my USA Jazz dated from around 80/81. The sansamp helps increase the output without pushing the amp to its limits
Yes ... effectively this is what I am up against. I have put my MM neck on a Jap75RI. The active Marcus pups were too much for me and now the RI pups haven't got the oompphhh or tone of my US Jazz. In essence I have a GL bass all be it a 3 bolt. I received my Wizzard 84's and Gotoh bridge this morning and should have the mods done by next week. There are lots of good vibes about the MM and GL, hopefully I have found some kind of 1/2 way house and will find what I have been looking for because I love these basses.
10. You are a prog rock band. What do I win? Best of luck to you.
11. when bass strings you ordered from ebay drop through your letterbox.
12. Great workhorse gig bass for someone this. I think my '90's US Jazz has American Traditional too. Good luck with the sale I can't imagine it will be around long.
13.
Could you let us know what the 84's are like please. I'm thinking of some for my Jazz. Cheers Steve
It will be a pleasure. Depending on when they arrive I probably won't be using them in anger until a week on Saturday. Please PM me if I forget.
14. I have just ordered some 84's for my Jap 75RI.
15.
Thank you all! Im thinking Gotoh and Wizzard 84's in one go?
I've just ordered them.
16. Thank you all! Im thinking Gotoh and Wizzard 84's in one go?
17. I think getting a good head and then worrying about the rest later isn't a bad way to start. I got a MB SA450 and used it with my Ashdown 4x10 for ages. Eventually I upgraded again to some Bergs, but I spent years using Ashdown and I play in a covers band too. I think value for money Ashdown take some beating.
18.
Wizard 84s are bigger, darker sounding than the 64s which are supposed to be simillar in sound to a standard Jazz pickup. Good pickups whichever you chose. I went for Villex in my Highway One Jazz, they're massive sounding although passive, and provide a great range of tones. As far as the bridge is concerened, it has to be badass for me, although any high mass bridge is believed to improve sustain and tone. I have to confess, I'm far to thick to notice a massive difference between any of them in terms of sound, but the Badass sure does look nice.
I will change pick up's first, then worry (GAS) about the bridge after I think. The badass does look the dogs though !
I heard my first active Delano jazz pickups (JSBC 4 HE) last week and they sounded amazing across the whole range, clear and defined notes from full, deep bass to sparkling highs.
I haven't had too much joy from active in the past, Im too heavy handed. I want to stay passive, just a bit thicker. Cheers
19. I have chopped and changed various bits of Jazz basses in recent months and feel I am almost there. The bass I'm currently using has a Jap RI75 body with US pups. However, it doesnt have the tone or growl of my original US Jazz. I dont want to swap them over because I love my US bass just the way it is. Therefore I'm thinking of some new pups in my Jap, and Im drawn towards Wizzards, probably 84's or Hammers. Any other suggestions? Im also thinking of updating the bridge. I might go for the Gotoh one that is about £30. I was also wondering how much of an improvement this is on the Fender 75 bridge and how far away it is from the Badass. Thanks in anticipation of answers. Mr Fudge
20.
I can't take any more... I've got to go to bed. Sorry!
Which vintage Fender are you taking tonight? I'd give them all one ....ooHHH eerrrr ....
21. Im watching and have just seen diddy's wig .. no band yet
22. I took this one with one of our many plastic birds when we supported Phil Jupitus and The Blockheads ...
