How may Basses do we own collectively on Basschat?
Mr Fudge replied to G-77's topic in General Discussion
add 3 = 1707 -
If you want a passive 4 string workhorse for gigging then Im not sure. I really think my MIJ 75RI would tale some beating. Saying that I would like to play a top notch Lakland. I personally doubt whether a boutique bass would impact on my needs.

"Invisible lead soup" and "Geddy Lee". I know exactly where you are coming from ... I always thought "Joss Aklands Spunky Backpack" would be a good name for a band.

I had only been on Bass Chat a few days when WOTs 73 Jazz came up. It is a massive regret I didn't follow my heart at the time and buyt it . Sorry to rub it in WOT, but definately the best bass my eyes have seen on BC or anywhere else for that matter. To add insult to injury Im off to see Neil Young tonight
What IS that drummer wearing?
God only knows his choice of shoes and handbag.
Ok, this is what I have heard about Geddy's Jazz, the original Bass he uses has a bridge pup that is breaking down, some of the lower freq are being cut due to this, so very similar to a 4001 but this has a capacitor to get the same effect and why he liked that particular Jazz over other basses. I am not sure if the reissue designers were aware of this when they started to produce the Geddy Jazz, if they were, there will be a cap in between the pup and the jack or they may have modded the pup's internally. Aggressive, possibly but certainly more gritty like a 4001, if they have made them to sound like Geddy's original.
Yes I remember this now. The dodgy electronics give him that sound like the Rick. I don't think the re issue emmulates this ???
I think that the Geddy is actually closer to the heart rather than the bridge!
There was "no one at the bridge." (obscure Rush reference from a Rush nerd) Geddy Lee is a very aggressive player. Infact on Moving Pictures where his Jazz and Ricky were both used in recording they sound like the same bass to me and I wouldn't have even known his Jazz was used if I hadn't read about it years later. I don't think the spacing would make a fat lot of difference.

Ikea have also been responsible for putting Wednesbury on "the map." Not sure what I mean by that though?

The problem is you will also leave with an industrial amount of tea lights, a toast rack and some of those plastic wedge things that maintain the shape of your shoes when you are not wearing them.

Excellent ..... Im a big Jap Fender fan.

Today I met, the legend that is...
Mr Fudge replied to Zoe_BillySheehan's topic in General Discussion
I have had the pleasure of meeting Norm a few times. The first time at considerable length with the chance to share a few beers with. The bloke is an absolute gent and a really good story teller and laugh. We never mentioned bass playing once. -

Yet another "identify the bass" - Wonderstuff this time
Mr Fudge replied to thepurpleblob's topic in Bass Guitars
The drummer died in a car crash. I used to work with his dad. So ends my knowledge of The Wonderstuff. -
Whole different ball game .....
We had a rare rehearsal last week to dot the i's and cross the t's on a few new songs to revamp our wedding sets. I don't know if I could gig week in week out with an acoustic kit behind me again after all these years. Even the good ones in a practice situation sound like a load of old dustbin lids to me. Perhaps Im spoilt or a philistine or both?

I love EB slinkies. I prefer them when they are a few gigs old and not too bright, but that's just me.

I've tried a few of Paul H's SX's and they are shockingly good.
I am thinking about changing all my gear over. Currently we use 2 subs and 2 tops for FOH - (custom built with Rcf and JBL drivers - very good if a little tatty, andhuge), powered by QSC RMX 2450 amps, and 4 thoman monitors powered by some crest or other. But is is all massive and the amp rack is as heavy as me with crossover and effects in it. Desk is an Allen and Heath GL 2400 24 channel. LExicon effects rack unit. However, I am fed up with the size and weight of it, so am toying with changing the desk for a Allen and Heath Mixwizard 16:2, which is just about big enough, effects in it, and smaller. And then running an all active FOH system - and would love some EV SBa760 subs with some 3x360a tops. But this is expensive, so might go for MAckie SRM450 aabd SW1501s, which could be added to later. Trouble is, no one seems to be that keen on Mackie stuff on the web, so it is nice to read the above poster singin its praises. Any other experiences?
Not sure about other speakers but I would not hesitate to recommend our Dynacord Powermate. One hand lift and awesome bit of kit,
-
Im no expert but we have some great kit that has took a few years to acquire and a few quid but does the job whether we are in a town hall or down the local. We have a Dynacord powered desk which is excellent. Digital effects, mutes and other fool proof toys. We have 2 large EV tops and for bigger gigs run a couple of powered Wharfdale bins. Through this we put 4 vocals, 3 keys, 2 acoustics and an electronic drum kit. The thing has been worth its weight in Gold and we often get compliments about the clarity of our sound. Lots of headroom (with the bottoms I imagine about 2K) and not being overly loud because of an electric kit and not having to compete with an acoustic one has probably payed dividends. To be honest though a good vocal PA and clear vocals is probably the most important thing starting out.

I have MB SA450 and 2 x AE112's. The sound gets better and better from the Bergs as they loosen up after a few months. Never tried any other top end stuff though!
