2. Ditto. I am a Beck vigin, which is a surprise really considering my age and musical influences over the years. I thought he was amazing. Ive never seen so much feel in a player. Not overawed by the bass player. All that great gear didn't sound very clever IMO. I came to the conclusion that the dirty old sod must be shagging her. :brow:
3. Having been a g****r player for many years to buying a bass (for Geddy Lee reasons of course) I bought an active hohner jack bass. Didnt really know what I was looking for. It was about £300 in about 1990ish. I wish I still had it.
4.
You've seen me. What more do you want you greedy bastard?
Sorry, you clearly fall into the interbred catergory. Your avant garde bass playing and geography count for nothing. You can take the boy out of West Bromwich but you .............. As our mom used to tell us.
5. I need to have a good play about with my mongrel P, but I wondered how people use their thumpers? I usually have all pots fully up on a bass. Is this the most effective way to run a thumper? Im after a bit of beefy growl but don't seem to have it yet?
6.
What's with the elitism?
Pluralism isn't a concept that has taken off 'round these parts. I think you could replace "pluralism" for "interbreeding". Actually there was a bloke from Wales there! Hopefully get to see some basschatters one day.
7. No Kelly Grocutt He sent his apologies on Friday night and told us it will happen one day. Great night. 450 drunken black country council house people can't be wrong. Back to gig reality for 12 months now.
8. I have not read all the details but from experience there are not many self respecting pubs and venues that dont let you by-pass them. We invested in a couple of industrial strength and length extension reels many moons ago. signed anywho....
9. I had a rattle on my US jazz. Only noticeable when unplugged. I discovered that some thing on or in the tunning machine was rattling. I played the E open and held the peg with my left hand to damp the vibration. No rattle. Doesnot effect tuning or sound when amplified. Just a bit annoying when having an unplugged mess about. Strange!
10.
No need for coat getting Beeds...it would be wise to take any exchange betwixt myself and Mr. Fudge with a pinch, nay a fistful of salt. We are both from West Bromwich for a start, although only one of us has a gay brother. Since Mr. Fudge has become a bass player (and a damned fine one too...even though he refuses to accept the influence I had on him) he has delighted in asking me about my gear preferences and then buying the stuff I can't afford. I am pretty sure he does this on purpose knowing the devastating affect it has on me. I do however love the man entirely. In the same way one would love for instance, a castle. P.
Im treating you to a years subscription to English Heritage. Hows your brother by the way?
11.
The bass player form The Move or ELO?................
Cogratulations!!! You have won a banana. Hopefully we will finish our set with Sweet talkin' woman, Dont bring me down and Mr Blue Sky with Kelly Groucut from ELO on bass and vocals. I'll know at 6.30 on Saturday if its happening.
12. I noticed there are some very steep prices on ebay for vintage Fenders still.
13.
Is it me?
Yes it is. We felt six years of carnage was not enough for you and would like to do it one more time. We will have an operative waiting stage right with your bag of flour. Jimmy Lea is a bit warmer in a regional way, and also the 70's would have been the heyday for our potential mystery guest. I am now offering a first prize of a banana for the first correct answer.
14. getting warmer. If only it was Craig from Bros.
15. The humble covers band I play with every week ( The Busby Babes) will be doing our annual Robin 2 gig in Bilston, near Wolverhampton this Saturday. This is our "Wembley Stadium" gig and have been able to fill the place (600 people) for the last 2 years. The proceedings from the event go to a local charity and the night is always about playing some great music, having a bit of a party and having lots and lots of fun. This year we MIGHT be joined for the last 3 songs by a very famous bass player. We will play 3 songs from his former bands canon to end the night. I wont know if this is definate until 6.30 on the night. If it happens I will of course post pics. Im reluctant to name him because I don't want egg on my face, or anything else for that matter if he is a no show. In true Dusty Bin style I would let you all now after the event. If he does turn up Im demoted to acoustic guitar and a spot of keyboards. Needless to say you are all invited and please feel free to speculate. See you all Saturday
16. I have the SA450. I generally run everythig flat. My Jazz basses usually supply thehigher end. I sometimes give the VLE a twist to about 9'oclock. This gets a bit too nonedescript (for my ears) if I go too far. I may give the VPF a bit as well but agree that you loose out in a band setting with this one. In a little pub/ setting I sometimes turn both filters off. I love the depth and power of my SA450 but in certain situations feel it is too clean. I have added a DHA valve drive to my board that works well with passive bass, but can be a bit hot when using my active marcus sig. nice thread for me, cheers.
17. Lenny Henry is a dick. end of ...
18. Really got into Bowie this last two weeks ... again ... First time was 30 years ago.
19. done enough for a 100 lifetimes. Stoppin' in with the kids.
20. Really don't know much about his spirituality, at the worst it means he's a "christian". Loved the vid, thyanks for posting. Reminds me of all those DLR gigs I went to in the 90's and hope to god VH come to the UK this year.
21. I have just added Geddy Lee and the Yorkshire Ripper to my kids Wii Mii, Im GOOD!
22. A bit embarassing to claim it as a build as I bought bits and put them together, probably more by luck than judgement .... I won a Jap P 62RI body on ebay for £70 and the rest is history. The pick ups were new "Wizard Thumpers". Treated myself to a Jap Jazz skinny neck from the states and everything else was a few quid here and there. Ive put a bit of relief into the neck and let things settle for a few days and it plays like a dream. As I said, probably more luck than judgement. The Thumpers will get a proper run out tomorrow when I gig, but I have a really good feeling about them from my practice amp.
