I've put a new forum up as per the above requests. It's for a trial period to see how much use it gets - so please use it and from now on please post all your Double bass & EUB items for sale/trade in that forum. Any items posted for sale in this forum will be moved to the new one. Get posting! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showforum=76
Thanks Hamster, it's a step in the right direction. Be handier if it was in the upright section though, i.m.o. Keith

Ibanez Ashula fretted / fretless hybrid - gone
Mr Bassman replied to Mr Bassman's topic in Basses For Sale
Bump with more pics. I keep picking this beautiful bass up when I get the chance, and as I become more familiar with it the more fun it is to play. It can sound like two jazz basses, both fretted and fretless in one instrument. Sadly this bass will be wasted on me because, I play upright 90% of the time it bass deserves to be played more than I can commit to. Anyone local to me in Harrogate fancying a look and a cuppa give me a shout. -

Well, I thought I'd take one for the team, somebody had to! Having more than one instrument and various pickups I thought I'd found the answer to my prayers, please God give me something that will sound amazing on any bass that is an easy fix / removal! I was about to order one from overseas when I found it in stock for next day delivery in the UK. Well it turned up next day and I couldn't wait to try it out. I opened the box and was surprised how heavy it felt. It seemed nicely engineered but had a ding in the back! Gage recommends fitting the soundclip at the bottom of the bridge close to the table. I thought I'd try it on my old French bass (which I use a K&K Bassmax for a real, natural, my bass but louder sound). The threads on the adjuster were binding and I had difficulty opening the jaws wide enough to fit this bridge. This is not a one handed operation so the bass needs support while you find the "sweet spot"! Well I couldn't find the sweet spot, it sounded dreadful (into acoustic image coda 111) Tried it on my modern carved Hungarian (Upton Rev Solo 11 or Underwood), same probs. Tried it on my Kolstein travel bass (has full circle fitted) same probs Then tried it on my Yamaha SLB100 ( sounds best with Underwood) sounded terrible. Oh dear! £350 for something that sounds awful, has faulty threads and leaves marks on your bridge! I contacted the online retailer and they agreed to refund the item if I returned it, which I did. I emailed David Gage about the problems, they've not even bothered to reply! So I'm back to using whatever suits whichever instrument, but I'm getting happy sounds and £350 better off!

I'd like to leave some positive feedback for Tom, alias *monster* Although we've not met or even spoken he comes across as a great guy and a pleasure to deal with here on Basschat. Hope you like the strings, or at least cross them off your GAS list! Cheers Keith
Guys and gals, this is your section..... ( I aspire to be joining your ranks soon!) So my question is this - Would you prefer a sub forum in here for buying and selling your wares or a separate one in the for sale section? Bob,
Another yes please bumpy type reminder
That's cool, I've seen Rob burns one I think It has a solid ash body? Some info on my wal: It has the neck pick up moved back towards the bridge pick up (20mm gap between the two) Makes for a real punch sound, Dunlop recest strap locks & the tunes very slightly down slanted, so she is really a one off, I'm still up for a trade & your fretted would be played as she should be
Might be easier move the fretless 5 on. Hmmmmmmm!
I need to stick with 6 strings really
Just wondered what yours weighs Al My fretted is a tad over 11lbs 5.5k just a bit of info on mine I already had both fretted & fretless 5 string wals when I met Pete down at the Music fair in '94, he gave me a photo of a prototype 6 string, which I still have somewhere. Anyway I got him to make me one, don't know if it's the first custom order or not, I think Rob Burns claims that, but mine is August 94 and became my main instrument for about 4 years until taking a sabbatical. Since then it only comes out about twice a year so it really needs a new curator who will use it.

I'm not sure I really want to to this but I need to sell a couple of instruments and much as I like it, it's is a bit more challenging to play than I thought it would be, and to be honest I haven't been able put the time in. It needs to be cherished by someone who can dedicate a bit of time to mastering it, I'm too busy messing about with uprights and getting on in years (you can't teach an old dog new tricks etc) I got a month ago from a nice guy called Shep pantherairsoft and I've probably spent less than an hour on it. It's in as new condition, sounds amazing, and plays like a dream, lovely neck! Shep has kindly agreed to let me use his pics etc. Here's Shep's in depth reveiw. So anyone wanting to delve into the world of fretless without having to take two instruments along, this could be the way. Was looking for a trade for NS NXT / Yamaha SLB200 / custom shop jazz / Gibson Archtop but it's gone to Bassgear Thanks for looking
Yes those would be the ones. If your willing to let a set of them go, how much you want for them? Thanks
The set on the left has lost the silks on the D & G where they wrap around the bridge The set on the right are in better shape How about £20 for the lefties or £35 for those on the right + postage?
What's the story behind how you acquired this? These really don't come up too often
A friend of mine called me last week and said he was thinking of selling his Baby Bass, as I'd shown an interest in it when he brought it round a year or so ago. Would I be interested in buying it? Maybe! He brought it over last Monday and by Wednesday I'd agreed to relieve him of it! (Just got back from my second gig with it and I'm really pleased with it live. It has a big fat thumpy bottom without boom, can hear full spectrum up the dusty end, and fits in my Kolstein gig bag and I don't need any pre amps (direct into LMk + 2 x UL110)
Does any one have a spare/old set of these they want to get rid of? i really want to try them out but thought i would ask here before buying new. thanks
I might have a couple of used sets, are they the ones with g & d gut coloured and e & a steel flat wound? And a loop with black windings rather than a ball?
