WTB EUB with substantial skeleton frame
Mr Bassman replied to Beedster's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Lovely, that's exactly what I'm after, albeit on a slightly larger scale (the whole skeleton) Thanks very much Rev, this is much closer to sorted that it was an hour ago! C
I've owned both Slb 100 & 200 The 100 feels like a real bass partly due to the balance, plus the lower bout which rests against your leg. The 200 is lighter and without the lower bout, and has a tendency to spin away from playing position, on a gig you're always trying to hold it back. Ask Alan Hatswell if he could do an extended frame with lower bout, it would make big difference imo! -

I've spent lots of time and money experimenting with different pickups on several instruments over the years. I think the Underwood is the most versatile, I've got 3 and I can fit them to any bass including SLB100 (which I've had two of) and SLB200 (which I don't own anymore, but wouldn't mind another if anyone is selling!) You will need a buffer preamp otherwise the sound will be thin. I've got several other pickups that only suit certain instruments, Upton Rev Solo only works on my big fat Hungarian, nice woody tone, (just put Underwood back on with spiro weichs) K&K Bassmax suits my old French bass (great, no preamp rqd!) Fishman Full Circle on my Kolstein, (came with a Planet) Also tried Fishman BP100, Barcus Berry, Kent Armstrong, Shadow Nanoflex So look out for an Underwood, it'll transform the SLB when you get it!
Hi guys, I've been experimenting with strings again! I've got a set of evah pirazzi weichs with less than 10 hours playing from new. They have only been on my bass and had light use. They are unmarked. I want to try the evah regulars with this bass so if anyone has a full set with similar low use then I would consider a trade. I would also trade for a fishman pro platinum bass. For sale at £85 posted Cheers Geoff [/quote Hi Geoff, I'd like to try the weichs, I've got a set of regulars that haven't had a lot of use lets have a chat K
Hiya John In a word, feedback! Having real problems. Get the mic close enough to the instrument to get a decent tone and it feeds back, far enough away to not feedback and the tone is poor plus it picks up other things! I think the real problem with it in this configuration is the lack of a volume control on the pre-amp, meaning I can't just roll off a little when problems start, I either have to leap over to my backline if using one (not easy with a FS), or rely on the soundguy. Can I ask how far from the body you placed the mic when it was working well for you? Cheers C PS still looking for the big-skeleton bass by the way folks!
I point my Golden Bullet right at the nicks in the treble side "F" hole at about 45degrees to the body, but my combined bassmax / mic pre has 2 vol controls. Can you borrow a volume pedal off a guitarist / keyboard player friend to try? Rufus Reid uses one IIRC. Did you get a response from Dave Swift btw? cheers Keith -

Used Acoustic myself for years and had many compliments on my sound with Fender and Wal basses. Mr B.
I know it won't be a true DB sound but I reckon it will be better than a schaller and hopefully no feedback!
or a new one from Thomann on one bass, the mic is ok but to be honest the pickup alone sounds amazing so if I need some pa support I usually just d.i. from the back of my amp (markbass). I don't need an external pre amp with the bassmax into the markbass, just have to roll some bass off!
wonder what's happened with the links?

Hi Chris, there's a usable mic for sale here or a new one from Thomann on one bass, the mic is ok but to be honest the pickup alone sounds amazing so if I need some pa support I usually just d.i. from the back of my amp (markbass). I don't need an external pre amp with the bassmax into the markbass, just have to roll some bass off! I recently turned up at a gig without my pick up, I'd been experimenting with it on another bass and forgot to re attach it, I got through the gig with a sm58 on a boom stand aimed at the treble side f hole. It was a bit restricting as I had to keep the bass in one position all night but I got away with it. good luck! Keith

WTB EUB with substantial skeleton frame

Look out for a 2nd hand Slb 100 they feel exactly like a 3/4 bass but the sound lets it down (except for headphone use which is ok for silent practice!) An easy fix tho', just fit an Underwood, (Dave Swift swears by Full Circle!) or pick up of your choice and your favourite strings and away you go. Dave has two of these and could have one for sale, just contact him through his website, he's a friendly with a great collection of basses! -
Ulabled German Double Bass from circa 1880. Spruce top--fine grain, opening to the flanks. Maple flat back. Fair condition. The bass has been repaired in the past, no repairs or cracks since I have owned the bass for approx. 20 years. New ebony F/B fitted about the time of purchase. New quality machine heads fitted when I had the bass set up for jazz a few years ago by Roger Dawson, London. Nice tp play, good sound. send for pics. via email. £5750. Would part ex. for quality EUB--prefebly semi-acoustic.
A few pics and your location might help your sale!
Has anybody got experience of the Headway EDB-1 as a preamp for bass?I know it's 2 channel so can add mic at a later date but soundwise is the Fishman Platinum Pro Bass a decent buy?I have a Bassmax pickup fitted right now. Cheers Iain
I've got both the plat pro and headway. The plat pro often seems to lack something, so I got the Headway to try and it really seems to sparkle! It really makes my Yamaha SLB100 (with undewood fitted) come alive. I'm not sure yet about my Kolstein with a full circle, I'm still a / b'ing them. I have a K & k bassmax fitted to my old French bass and it sounds great direct into a markbass head without any pre amp. By the way, my son has just got a carved archtop guitar and it feeds back like a mother, I suggested he take the headway to his next gig, prob solved with the notch filter!
Hi Keith Did you sell these in the end? What sort of tension are they? Cheers Gareth
Sorry Gareth these went a couple of weeks ago, thought I'd edited as sold. I found them a bit stiff for my Yamaha SLB 100, prefer a lighter tension string as my hands and the rest of me gets older! Maybe I should have tried the braided set!

I've got one of these from Screwfix, they're great for carting uprights around, even if your gig bag has wheels they're no use on cobbles etc, these fold up trolleys (go for the largest wheel possible) will manage most surfaces, i.e. gravel, grass, cobbles and even stairs! You can even leave your bass stood up on the trolley whilst opening doors/cars etc. When you've wheeled your beloved instrument from car to stage you can then go back and use the trolley for your amp, wires bag, p.a., drum kit etc. Cheap as chips!
Hello! I'm trying consolidate my kit so I'm selling off a few pieces of gear. First, I would like to put up for sale my Genz Benz 3.0-8T combo. It is in like-new condition. It has only been played in my home and the home of a friend (both smoke-free). It sounds great, especially on the floor, near a wall. The Shuttle 3.0 was able to drive my larger cab without a problem. I'm really happy with the amp. I just have too much stuff around the house... I'm asking £450 + P&P. Local pick up in North Yorkshire would be preferred. Here are the details: This ultra compact combo delivers impressive output and tone. Ideal for café gigs, “acoustic” performances, jazz gigs or for practice. The SHUTTLE 3.0 amp when coupled to larger cabinets (NEOX-210T or 212T for example) can provide the power and clarity for much larger applications.
The bass is quality and in great nick. I can't imagine anyone will ever get the opportunity to buy a Midibass and the Midisystem, original hardcase and MIDI cables, again - it's like a Wal treasure trove! I'm sorry that this didn't work out for me but I know it will for someone. Feel free to ping me a PM if anyone has any questions about the bass.
thanks for the opportunity to try your Alleva Coppollo Joe, It really has got that vintage vibe and sound, and is very comfortable to play for a five string, not too heavy either! I could have been tempted, have you deceided to keep it? -
Gone to new home, thanks
i have a Acoustic image contra 2 about 4 yrs old with an acoustic image carry case. In good condition except the little metal tilt pin has broken of. which is really a good thing as it defeats the whole object of this amazing little combo. I'm not doing enough double bass gigs to justify having this thing around and need something for little electric bass gigs. looking for a Mark Mini CMD 121P or something similar with cash adjustment either way.
How about a Markbass Littlemark 250 + EA Wizzy 10 (including gig bag)?
