112 advice?
Well, I have no experience of that cabinet, and it might hold up enough mid range to give you enough volume. Personally, it wouldn't be my choice. I'd go for an Aguilar DB112 x 2. Its a tried an tested amazing tone. Not light...45lbs each, but worth it.
Or Aggie GS112 x 2 if you want a fatter less mid-gutsy tone, a stonkingly good combination...
  3. How you getting on with it mate?...
  4.
I have a friend who owns the original Promethean and plays a epiphone thunderbird through it. It's more than loud enough to compete with a full drumkit. From what you say the new promethean sounds more like a practice amp to me.
Sounds like you're right, if I remember correctly, the older model puts out 300W into the single speaker, arguably more than enough for most real world stuff within reason. I have emailed Ibanez asking why they changed it, but they don't seem keen to reply... Eude
  5.
Yes - I think it's plenty loud enough for home practice, maybe even for low-volume acoustic jamming. However, the 300W seemed to evaporate into thin air last night at band practice - and that was with no drummer, not even hand percussion. I dunno, maybe I was expecting too much.
You'll get a bit less bass response with it being elevated. Perhaps if you tried it on the floor it might have had a little more weight? Remember it won't put out the full wattage without an additional cab, having said that though, 150W at 8 Ohms, or whatever it puts into the single speaker, should still have been audible enough. Eude
  6. That's a shame, my experience of similar usage, in my old band was great! The older version seriously kept up with everything without even being close to maxed out at rehearsals and small gigs. The new power section must be pretty crappy by comparison then, and by the sounds of it they must have cheapened the speaker and everything else too. There is a tendency towards a middy sound, but you can easily dial it out using the graphic EQ, I guess the new simpler preamp makes it harder to target the specific frequencies. Ibanez were really on to something with the first lot of Promethean kit, I wonder why they turned this crappy corner Eude
  7. Wow! Very nice mate! Eude
  8.
BF Midget T with GB Shuttle 9.0:
Now that is a really classy looking rig
  9. +1 for the EAD. Not only is it the best built cab I've ever seen, it's fairly light, it also sounds very VERY nice and is extremely versatile. I think you'll love it Eude
  10.
You're going to love it! Don't forget to breathe Took it to a practice last night and it was just soooo good, any sound I needed was just there (60's thump, modern poppy slap, everything), and, despite being a 6 string I had absolutely no hand ache afterwards! The asymmetric neck profile is perfect!
That's great to hear matey The asymmetric profile is genius, combined with the flat fingerboard I assume yours has, you get a very VERY comfortable 6 string bass. Due to me being a wee guy, I opted for a slimmer nut profile than usual too, at 52mm, just like a classical guitar, which makes the thing even easier to play - the beauty of a custom instrument Finger crossed I'll be speccing up a 6 string fretless at some point next year, hopefully I can plump for the ACG EQ 03 for it too Eude
  11.
Why are all the new more 'abstract' Fender's all Squier or MIC?
I guess so any booboos don't damage the precious "Made in America" label... Eude
  12. There's something about that bass that I really love. I'm not a huge fan of the standard Fender thing, although they are arguably the classic basis for pretty much everything out there. I really dig the sounds that bass is making though and I personally love the way Fender/Squier are mixing things up a little, even if they're just smashing spare bits together. I'd love to see a 32" Jaguar bass with two of those bass ass humbuckers like the one in that Tele bass, 3 way switch, vol/tone/tone. I would probably even buy one if it was an affordable Squier model... Eude
  13.
Why should his lack of intelligent musicianship cost you money? The first thing I’d get would be ear plugs.
+1
  14. You could just ask the guitard to turn down? Your rig should be loud enough for most situations especially rehearsal! If your amp is maxing out then everything is too loud and you're likely to be damaging your hearing, never mind your speakers! Seriously, I hate it when idiots keep turning up at rehearsal, its absolutely pointless and almost exclusively the guitarist's fault every feckin' time! Failing that, you could get one of the Aggie tube amps, but I think they've been discontinued, they go down to 2 Ohms as far as I'm aware, so you can get yourself another EAD and disembowel everyone with the volume. I gigged my Promethean a fair bit when I first got it and it kept up fine with a live drummer and guitard in a folky/rock context. I've also not had any problems with it, whatsoever since I bought it, bar the gain knob getting a little crackly from lack of use. Obviously my experience is only of my combo, but the Ibanez and all the "tribute versions " are/were based on the same design, made in the same place, same production line, by the same people, so I imagine the build quality and quality control of the head, at least, will be very similar. If anyone is seriously worried about the reliability, just buy one from somewhere where you can return it should it go faulty, these amps are definitely worth a punt! Eude
  16.
Thanks for that mate. I'm reconsidering my options at the moment...kind of thinking I might get myself a Genz-Benz Streamliner as it'll work as a practice tool with the headphone out and aux in, and then get myself a cab later on. We'll see though, but thanks for the heads up on that.
No bother dude, sounds like the Streamliner would be a good bet too. I think that's probably the only thing I would part with my Promethean for to be honest. Best of luck! Eude
  17. This little combo might be a good shot mate?... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/161860-tecamp-puma-110-combo-l500/ Eude
I've just ordered one of the newer style Promethean's from Thomann, couldn't find the old 500watt type anywhere .. Any problems and it will go back always had a good service from Thomann.
Cool, looking forward to hearing what you think of it mate
Not heard much about the RedSub on this thread so far, having just bought one, I haven't used it at a gig yet. Saturday should be its debut. Fingers crossed that it passes muster. I'm not getting rid of my Hartke just yet though. Will keep you all posted.
Matt, Neepheid has one, and is very VERY impressed with it, I think he actually replaced a Hartke head with it as it happens. Like the majority of us Promethean/Red Sub/HB users, he's had no problems at all, people usually only tend to report problems, not awesomeness. As far as I'm aware, I don't think I've heard of any reported problems about the Red Sub ones in particular, the design of the combo for that and the HB ones isn't quite as nice, IMO, but they do all the same tricks and a much cheaper price point.
I've not really followed these new Prometheans much, but just had a nose about and they look rather neat. Mind you, it's the first time I've seen an amp with a 'Phat' control. Now if they could do one with a 'Talent' control, I'd be sorted...
The older ones only have a "Vibe" control, I've never felt the need to be a bit more "vibey", whatever that means... Eude
  20.
It's not so much more lows, as a smaller box for equal lows compared to a 1x12". But because the net internal volume is smaller the port has to be longer to get the same tuning frequency, plus you need space for the second woofer and the isobaric chamber, and then add on the thickness of the plywood, so instead of an isobaric 2x12" having the same performance as a normal 1x12" but being 50% of the size, it ends up being about 75% of the size (and obviously you have the extra weight and cost of the second woofer). Plus if the woofers are running full-range then you'll get comb filtering through the mids and treble as the rear woofer actually fires through the front woofer, so some frequencies are reinforced and some cancelled depending on their phase relationship.

compared to a 2x12 its less of everything, but more lows in comparison. compared to a 1x12, its more lows from a slightly smaller box (because the extra space from the other driver and isobaric chamber and port are all wasted for internal volume purposes).
Thanks guys, I'm glad some of you know what you're talking about, so in summary, Isobaric - not so good, for some I guess. Cheers, Eude
  21.
Half the power is going into moving the front woofer (which makes sound) and half into moving the back woofer (which makes the front woofer think it's in a bigger enclosure but doesn't make any sound). So if you've got 500W going into an isobaric 2x12" the sound coming out is equal to 250W going into a standard 1x12" of twice the net (internal) volume.
So, does that mean the cab technically goes lower, but at the expense of volume then Alex?
  22.
Not much point in drawing all the watts when only one speaker is actually moving air.
There's two speakers in the SP212 cab, although aren't they acting as one, not really sure how isobaric stuff works...
  23.
How about getting one of the Orange SP 2x12 cabs to go with the head. Could always even add a second one in the future.
Very good idea, as you can get the full 4 Ohms into one cab with the TB, right? Eude
  24.
I feel inclined to agree
I should've added, nice bass mate
  25. I personally really like the Katana shape, I think it may have been a little bit too quirky, in an "un-warwick" kinda way, if that makes sense? The weirder Warwick shapes a more elegant you see, but the Katana always seemed like a bass that put function before form, which is never a bad thing, at the end of the day, we have to be comfortable on these big chunks of wood or we will keep looking for something else. Just a quick thing for Warwick Official, has there ever been a 6 string version of the Katana made?...
