1. Thanks dude, had a wee listen, just sounds like a nice crispy jazz bass, no tone loss whatsoever with the shorter scale I think I have one more bass in me, once my next one lands (an ACG Krell SC E Type 6 string, headless, fretless), I think I might have to see if Alan at ACG will make me a Jazz type bass in 31.5" flavour, my preferred scale length these days. Cheers, Ewan
  2.
Whilst not related to the TH500 as it wasn't around, The Bass Merchant used to order Aguilar in directly and the pricing was much fairer. Another example of a bizarre business structure of having 'middlepeople' who essentially act as dealers, storing the product....sometimes helping with problems (often, it's just easier to get hold of the company directly, e.g. like Genz Benz).
+1 I bought an Aggie GS112 from Bass Merchant pre UK distributor for about £300 new. I appreciate prices go up, but they're more than twice that now and it's a 15 year old design! I expect getting a UK distributor will have done more harm than good for the brand in the UK. Eude

Unadulterated Filth! Splendid addition to the stable mate Eude
  4.
Low B is ace - no real difference in tone than my full size Fender - but there is def a drop in string tension across all strings in comparison which is to be expected really with the 2" shaved off. Not an issue at all, just find I need a lighter touch with the Maruszczyk. The Warwick actually feels higher string tension than the Maruszczyk and also has a sweet B, just prefer the thin neck, preamp and defo the looks of the Maruszczyk = custom-for-me-tastic so the W is now surplus to requirements. No recordings yet but I'll keep ya'll posted!
Thanks for the info dude! It's a lovely looking bass! Eude
  5.
As a wee man and a 5 string man I've found medium is defo the best overall fit for me - currently have a custom Maruszczyk Elwood Absolution 5A 32" which is now my go to fiver, along with a Warwick Rockbass Corvette Basic 5 which is up for sale in the classifieds if anyone fancies a medium-sized dalliance with a 5th string...
Wow! I love that Maruszczyk 32" 5er! How's the low B on it? I don't suppose you have any recordings? Thanks dude, Eude

    NBD ACG Krell

What fantastic taste in basses mate, congratulations! I always loved the way that one turned out too. As far as internal organs go, just choose one that you have two of, so you can at least enjoy your new purchase for a little while Eude
  7. Wow! This looks incredible! Top work, as ever mate. Eude
  8.
I`ve not gigged the RMs yet so can`t really comment, but I`d suspect that the BF would be better on this.
Thanks dude, I look forward to hearing when you have Eude
  9.
Very nice Kevin, at home practice levels the sound is pretty much the same as with the ABM cabs, no real eq spikes to give a different flavour so to speak. Raggy - yes I think I do slightly prefer the Ashdowns, they just seem to have a more forceful sound about them, like they`re pushing the sound at you, which playing punk just fits a little better for me. Still think the BFs are great though, and will always recommend them.
Hey mate, how does the desperation compare between the RMs and the BF?
  10. I might add, I've since dialled in the strings on the 6 string, with a custom made Newtone set, a little lighter than I would usually go for with a taperwound B. It's even more playable now, my shorter scale 4 ACG has the same set now too, but the 33" 5er seems to like things a little heavier. Eude
  11.
Just listened to these, some really lovely work there man. I love your approach to playing the chordal stuff on the 6 and the tone really sings. And you're right, that B sounds great!
Very kind of you to say dude, thank you! Eude
  12. The B's are great on my basses, and the longest scale I have is 33"! I've had a few ACGs come and go as I've balanced GAS issues and figured out what I really want in a bass, and all of them have had amazing B strings, and again all of them previously have been 33" scale. My 6 string is actually 31.5" scale, and the low B is ridiculously good, especially when you factor in the scale! My 5er has 18mm spacing and a 45mm nut, both standard for ACGs, my 6 string is actually 16.5mm spacing, bit of a hangover from playing Warwick basses, but makes for super fast finger style playing. All my basses have the asymmetric neck shape and flat fingerboard too, again standard ACG stuff and I don't see myself ever going back to 'old fashioned' style stuff now. For your consumption, here's a couple of samples featuring the low B on my 5 >> https://soundcloud.com/eudeboy/if-you-want-me-to-stay and https://soundcloud.com/eudeboy/rfb-series-active-sample and also, here's some sound samples of my 6 string shorty, chordy noodlings and some low B action too >> https://soundcloud.com/eudeboy/sets/acg-salace-sc-e-type-samples Hope that helps dude! Eude
  13. I'm lucky enough to see them of them on a daily basis Worth every single penny too! Eude
  14. Wow, that sounds awesome! Great playing and a great bass, obviously Eude
  15.
According to their website, a standard J series Overwater starts at 2 grand, so I'd assume a p bass would be similar. If fancy electronics and quiet pickups are your thing, then you can't beat Overwater, but if you are looking for a very well built p bass, I recommend Jon Shuker, just from my experiences. Being honest though, no matter who you choose from the suggested names, you're guaranteed a very high quality product, and very good service.
I'd second that, I'd still strongly recommend you check out ACG, as they do make a P Type, but if you're wanting a much more trad looking bass, basically a custom P, Jon Shuker is your man, every time. Just dig through this forum to see why. Eude
  16. Another vote for ACG from me! I've played nothing but ACG basses for years now, and having owned and played some reasonably high end basses in the past, ACG are up there if not better than all of them Just to reiterate what others have said, Alan is an incredibly talented and accommodating individual and will make you the bass of your dreams. Cheers, Eude
  17. If manufacturers were required to quote their power ratings in a way that they were all comparable, and accountable to a certain degree, I think things would be very different. I've gigged with 100 - 200 W amps back in the day, pre class D and never ever wanted more power. If Trace are being honest about their ratings, then surely 200 actual watts will be enough for most people, and as a bonus it fits snugly into the back pocket of lady jeans... Eude

    Ashdown 2017

The amp is only £349! www.pmtonline.co.uk/ashdown-origin-hd1-valve-pre-di-mini-pre-amp-head Once I've got the scooby on the power stage, I'm on this like a nun sandwich! Eude
You're right about the Class A/B and switch mode supply on the little mark, but I think it was still a fixed voltage. If I recall correctly you had to change internal jumper settings to change the supply voltage between USA and Europe supply ranges.
Hmmm. Oh well. I'm hoping that if it is class D, it's very conservatively rated then I miss the days when you could gig with a 100W old school amp, all this class D stuff and using power rating as a marketing tool has just left me confused. Ashdown 2017
I dunno. Reading through some of the literature on other sites "The Origin comes complete with auto protect voltage for global touring musicians" screams class D to me. I don't ever recall seeing a non-class D amp with that feature. It also looks a little small for a toroidal tranny the size you'd need for an "old school" 300 watts.
I know the older MarkBass LittleMark's had a switch mode power supply right, but they wheren't class D? I'm really not very clued up on all this, but I think they were class A/B, and certainly sounded a lot nicer than their newer class D ones... Cheers, Ewan

    Ashdown 2017
The Origin is only 300W....I'm not sure why they went that route for? Where does it sit with their current lineup? Nice to see them offering limited versions of their amps and a few other new bits. If I had to start again I think I'd get some Ashdown kit.
I'm extremely interested in the Origin amp. I get the impression that although this might be rated low by modern class D standards, I know that Mark at Ashdown isn't the biggest fan of class D stuff, so I'd guess the power section here might be something different, either that or an extremely conservatively rated (i.e. honest) class D effort. If this isn't too pricey, and assuming my thoughts on the power section are true, I'll be pre-ordering one of these! Eude
  22. Loverly stuff dude!
  23. Scoop, of this parish owns it, along without 8,000 other ACGs too. I think the chances of it changes hands any time soon are as slim as a slim thing... Eude
  24.
lol , adrian actually had done a video of my custom : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hB6qgyJSuOI&index=44&list=PLzWxuTpz0aNheLTDqWv1SaIqtG7gvazml get your disco look on ;-)
That is awesome!
  25. Cool. I used to use their strings years and years ago, having them custom wind a 6 string bass set was cheaper than buying DRs from a UK based shop, this is pre-internet of course! I got back into using them as ACG started speccing them on their basses as standard, I've since met Neil who took over from Malcom, the original owner, and he's totally sound too. Delighted to be using British strings, never mind the fact that they are also bloody amazing! Eude
