Have to say I'm extremely interested in one of these. I'd like to see a bit more in the preamp, even just the addition of low mid and high mid, but I guess you can drive it with a preamp pedal like you do. Currently using two compact 1x10 cabs, I find I'm missing a bit of thick effortless low end, does the single 12" really kick out a nice bit of oomph? Looking forward to hear how you get on with it in anger! Eude

Yup, I've never tuned in anything but B to G. As it happens, I have had Dunlops too, which were fine length wise, although I found them a bit too floppy on the shorter scale, I imagine they're lovely on a regular bass though. Cheers, Ewan

Oh, also, medium scale strings wo't necessarily work, as 33" is longer than what's considered medium by the bass industry, which is 32". Seriously, I've never had an issue with long scale strings on a 33" bass. Eude

Wow, those must be some super-long strings! Are you leaving 2 inches of string after the post, before you bend it to create the bit to poke into the tuner? I've never ever come across this in nearly 10 years of playing 33" basses! I've been playing 33" basses for a long ol' time now and I've not really run into problems with any strings manufacturer I've tried. The only issue you can get is the taper starting a bit late, which can look a bit odd, but shouldn't effect how the string plays or sounds as that's determined by the bridge and nut. As mentioned above, Newtone will wind you custom strings in any length and gauge. All they'll need is the measurement from where the string anchors on your bass at the bridge to the nut. They do make lovely strings too Eude

I'm in again! I've got another ACG on the books. This one is a 6 string fretless Krell SC A Type, short(er) scale at 31.5". Chambered White Limba body with a 'Fractal Birch' top and Purpleheart accent. Wenge/Purpleheart/Wenge set neck. Lined figured Ebony fingerboard. 2 X RFB pickups and an ACG DFM filter preamp. [/quote] Happy to share once deposit is down, I'll pop a build thread on here for sure. Not going for multicoils I'm afraid, as I like a tight string spacing on a 6er, as I'm a small bloke. The MC pickups, currently, are spaced for 18mm, so although they would still work, as the strings would all be in the overall magnetic field, they pickup per string thing, wouldn't really make sense any more. I'll get a bass with them one day though. I kinda fancy a 4 string with them though. I'll be 40 in a couple of years, so if I wish hard enough who knows. I keep hoping Alan will loan me one to have down here for folks to try in London, no luck yet though... Yup, would be great to have a meet and compare basses! Eude
